Posted January 28, 200421 yr comment_66309 Hi all,I need to know whether the 280ZX and 260Z/240Z share the same engine mounts and gearbox/crossmember mounts.I am having custom engine mounts made and gearbox crossmember made to suit an RB motor BUT the builder accidently got in a 280ZX dummy car for my 260Z.Please let me know ASAP if this will work if you canThanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9948-urgent-280zx-260z-mounts/ Share on other sites
January 28, 200421 yr comment_66313 I dont think so, because the 280ZX has the sump in a different place to the 240/260 doesnt it? Sorry doesnt help really, but I would get him to stop before he starts if its not too late.Cheers Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9948-urgent-280zx-260z-mounts/#findComment-66313 Share on other sites
January 28, 200421 yr comment_66327 Isn't the motor still a L28?I would have thought it would be a straight swap? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9948-urgent-280zx-260z-mounts/#findComment-66327 Share on other sites
January 28, 200421 yr Author comment_66340 It is a straight swap, but whether the engine mounts from the block to the rubber front crossmember mounts are the same and whether the gearbox crossmember mounts are the same distance apart is the question Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9948-urgent-280zx-260z-mounts/#findComment-66340 Share on other sites
January 29, 200421 yr Author comment_66356 How about 260Z 2+2 to 2 seater gearbox crossmember and engine mounts? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9948-urgent-280zx-260z-mounts/#findComment-66356 Share on other sites
January 29, 200421 yr comment_66366 Should be all the same, given that the engine and gearbox out of a 2+2 bolts straight into a two seater I say go for it. January 29, 200421 yr comment_66373 The Engine mounts are the same.I pulled an engine out of my 280zx last night to pu in my 240 but I haven't checked the gearbox cross member yet to see if I need to swap it with my original one. Should have a definate answer some time tonight. January 29, 200421 yr Author comment_66377 The front crossmembers look quite different but you are saying the engine mount "arm" from the block to the crossmember is the same between the 280zx and 240z? January 29, 200421 yr comment_66378 From experience the engine mount arm and the sump off a 280zx fit in a z.However the engine bays are different and I wouldn't be using a 280zx for a mock up, experience has also shown me that the Genie extractors from a 280zx don't fit in a zed as the 280zx engine bay is alot wider :stupid: A mate who has just put a RB30 into his zed cut the the original tunnel mounts off and welded up new ones to suit the skyline boxcrossmember.Steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9948-urgent-280zx-260z-mounts/#findComment-66378 Share on other sites
January 29, 200421 yr comment_66379 The little steel plate that bolts directly to the block and to the rubber bushed engine mount on each side is exactly the same as the one from the engine that came out of the car.The gearbox cross member id different!!Photos to come.Scott Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9948-urgent-280zx-260z-mounts/#findComment-66379 Share on other sites
January 29, 200421 yr comment_66380 These pieces are from a 240Z and a 1983 280zx. The steel plates that bolt directly to the engine are the same, 280zx bolted to the block, 240Z on the ground. January 29, 200421 yr comment_66381 The Gearbox mounts are the same size and the 280zx one will bolt up to the 240Z no worries BUT the centre of the 280zx one is offset towards the front by 10-15mm resulting in a curved cross member.
