RX-8's have the new "renisis"(sp?) rotary eng. I donno what the 20B is out of, maybe the series8 RX-7?:tapemouth I know the Le-Mans Mazda has a quad rotor! :stupid:

Yeh, thats a point, rotarys are fuel thirsty! Probly like a big V8 or something...

20b are from cosmos. they're like a sports coupe in japan. And also come twin turbo. I would really like to put one in my Z. Rotories can make big hp. A 13b twin turbo in a s-30 would also me nice too.:classic: Oh and the new renesis are suppose to consume less fuel, more compact in size and lighter weight. and at the same time, put out more hp. Now if those were turbocharged, then That'll be sweet!:devious:

Yep the 20b was in the Mazda Cosmo kinda looks like a Nissan Silvia S13.

They are pretty heavy but and were more luxury than a performance car.

A rotor in a Z isn't my cup of tea there just a bit lacking when it comes to torque and one of the best things about the L motor is how much torque it produces.

It would make the car considerably lighter though.

The early Rotors had trouble with their apex seals from what I've read that's why you see so many blowing smoke. The absolute beauty is the design.

They are so simple compared with even a Lmotor no valves. No pistons.

Just a simple rotor which is the shape of a triangle and ports.

By making the ports bigger you can make the motor much more powerfull.

However because of their design they hard to to make high compression but that's why there so good turbo :).

theres not much to rebuilding a rotory, except for the fact that you have to be very precise with puttin it bak together. u have very little room for error, or it'll probably not run or not run rite. They can produce quite a bit of torque if u ask me. This guy i know has a turbo II and he dyno'd at about 188hp and 240-250 lb ft of torque.

The newer renisis has both ports on the side in of the housing so theres less overlap with the ports. They are also suppose to burn half the amount of oil it used to. (They burn oil becuzz they are 2 storkes, the apex seals needs to get lubercated so oil goes into the combustion chambers to do so.) And also be more fuel efficient. The rx-7's with the most problems were the thrid gen, the fd's. they had a lot of overheating problems.

theres been word that theres a company developing a sparkplug that is suppose to almost eleminate detination so that would mean you will start see a lot of 700-800hp rotories driving around on the streets.

I love rotories and these things can rev!!!! MY dream project is really to put a 3 rotor 20b in a s-30:devious:

No they're not, they're Rotaries.

A two stroke has a reciprocating piston that fires once every revolution of the crank (or once for every two strokes). A Rotary engine has a roughly triangular rotor which spins eccentrically in an epitrochoid (roughly a figure eight) chamber. There are three power 'strokes' for every revolution of the rotor but the output shaft turns three times also so... maybe it should be called a "one-stroke-engine" :geek:

The rotary is only similar to the two stroke in that its 'piston-to-wall' lubrication system involves oil injection into the fuel system...and even there are differences there too.

A Z, or ANY datsun/nissan never came with a rotary from the factory.

After they were "developed" by Wankel, NSU sold the rights to one manufacturer per continent - GM, Mazda, NSU. The designs were farily unfinished, thats why the GM rotary never made it into production. They only cars to ever have rotaries factory installed in them were Mazda's and NSU's. ofcourse I don't think NSU's were ever sold outside Germany.

I think there were a couple NSU's copied by Soviet companies though, but they are really not a factor to any of us.

Rotaries do inject oil into the combustion chamber. They have little pumps on the front cover. Inject at a rate of something like 1000:1. You could remove the pump, as on 12a's and earlier they are run by vac, so if you go to Weber's, they don't have the port ;) Then you just add oil to the gas tank.

Rebuilding is really easy, there are very, very few parts. Gaskets and 3 apex seals/rotor.

Heck no. Nissan never used the rotary. I just wanted to throw out the fact that what makes a Z so enjoyable to drive is that straight 6 up front. The inherent nature of the the inline-6 motor is torque, and remember torque gets you off the line. And not just torque but torque at a low rpm. The rotary has rotors spun through the center by an "eccentric" shaft. Because there are no pistons there is no crank and no rods which are the two key ingredients for angular momentum aka torque. To make up for the lack of torque Mazda tossed on the turbo charger and bang it's light and quick. The renesis motor has no turbo because of the new design creates 238hp without it. Problem... 159lb-ft of torque at 5500 rpm!!! That's ridiculous. In order for this car to perform you have to drive it like you hate it. If you should choose to throw a rotory in a S30 have at it, but I think the L series is a great engine and if you must stray the RB motors are another choice, just a little more pricey. I've never heard of a car getting hit by lightining a burning. It would seem that the tires would isolate it from ground at stop it from getting hit to begin with:ermm:
