Maybe you should see the video i've seen of a 4wd driving down the road, It gets hit by lightning. I saw it slowed down frame by frame. Hit the car right in the roof. February 9, 200421 yr comment_67709 Lightning will jump any gap given half a chance. A 4-6 inch piece of rubber will offer little resistance (no pun intended) But as you are in a farraday cage......you should not get struck. Current will flow on the outside of the car and not you. DON'T GO OUT AND TRY IT THOUGH:devious: :dead: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9966-rotary-engine/?&page=3#findComment-67709 Share on other sites
February 9, 200421 yr comment_67710 Originally posted by CoastGuardZ rotary has rotors spun through the center by an "eccentric" shaft. Because there are no pistons there is no crank and no rods which are the two key ingredients for angular momentum aka torque. To make up for the lack of torque Mazda tossed on the turbo charger and bang it's light and quick. Nate What I was trying to say earlier in the post . Given the fact that the lightning has just come through several miles of air would reinforce the idea that nothing's going to stop it. Maybe it was aiming for a spot on the ground that the car just happened to drive over. :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9966-rotary-engine/?&page=3#findComment-67729 Share on other sites
February 10, 200421 yr comment_67859 Tires conduct electricity. Which is why you are protected in a car. Lightning has a path to ground. If it didn't, lightning strikes of cars would be fatally destructive events. One of the properties that have to be designed into tires is proper conductivity.Regarding rotaries and torque, the main reason they don't make much is low displacement. 159 lb-ft is tremendous for 1.3 liters! But of course some would argue 2.6 to be a better effective displacement since the each rotor has a "power stroke" for each crank rev. Anyway, Make a 3.5 liter rotary and it'll make a lot more torque. Of course the fuel mileage would be truly abysmal! February 10, 200421 yr comment_67917 Whoa! I just freaked out. The fifth picture down kinda looked like an old Mustang. It was the way the fender guards are hanging over the front of the car. I'm OK now.:stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9966-rotary-engine/?&page=3#findComment-67917 Share on other sites
