Welded Cam Lobe

gramercyjam

This old Racer Brown (R-325 I think) cam (valve lift measured at .485") had very worn #3lobe. I tried MIG welding it and reground the lobe by hand. The results don't look encouraging. Lots of porosity and the boundary between the cam material and the weld material is visible. I am always experimenting to see what can be done. Since it took most of a day to do this, I'll try it out anyway just to see what happens.

Yeah 1 of my options with my camshaft was to go this way but we decided that it would be better to get 1 made up instead. So that's what I've done and it wasn't that expensive aswell which was great. :)
