byunique Member March 25, 200222 yr comment_33 Share this post This motor was from the other picture "rallysetup1". Yeah, a Z car!. This car was brought over from Japan along with more than a dozen other cars. At first when I saw it at the Las Vegas y2K convention, I thought it was a Z432 motor...you know the infamous crossflow head Z, but I was corrected by John Harris of GroupZ (longtime Z affectionado, who has a Fairlady Z from Japan) that it was rally race engine. I think there was 400 of the Z432's but this motor is much more rare than that. HS30-H Member March 10, 200321 yr comment_999 Share this post That's an LY28 "Crossflow", and its no relation to the S20 engine of the 432 and 432-R. The LY28 was a single overhead cam design with two rocker shafts and a hemispherical combustion chamber, and a modified version of the "normal" L-series block was used. The full conversion used a different crank, rods & pistons too. They were indeed used on the Factory "Works" rally cars ( from around late 1972 ), as well as the Factory circuit race cars in Japan. All of the parts for this conversion were available over the counter in Japan from the Sports Option parts lists. Highly sought after in Japan, with comparatively few survivors. This particular car is well known in Japan amongst early Z enthusiasts, and has been the subject of many magazine articles. TIM WHITNEY Member May 13, 200321 yr comment_1650 Share this post Nice head, but, not as nice as the OS Giken TC-24B. The head is a twin cam, cross-flow cylinder head. Made by a Japanese company in the '70's for the 240Z. It included all the hardware to bolt on to the engine. NLA.
