Maybe the Japanese were hoping you american's would come to your senses and switch from imperial to metric . Just kidding with ya. EScanlon Member June 23, 200519 yr comment_9472 Share this post Actually in the early 70's there was a very strong and concentrated push to try to change the U.S. to a metric standard. You'd see not only speedometers, but also highway signs with Kilometers. Food Stuffs still carry the milliliter volume, or the gram weight. But apparently the metric system was too much for everyone to understand......
