Interior 6

Disposition

Well I have finished all that I plan to do for now as far as interior restoration is concerned. Thought I would share my progress.

Whoever owned your car before you, must have really loved it! It looks better every photo you upload. were you looking for some time before you found this one?

Yes, I had been looking casually for a couple of years. And more seriously for about two months before I found it. I live in Florida and found this one in Indiana.

The previous owner kept it in really good shape, although it has its problems like all Z's.

As far as the interior goes; the dash, seats and carpet were all in near perfect condition when I got it. Just needed a good cleaning.

The rest of the interior was pretty worn so I started by hand sewing a leather steering wheel cover over the original steering wheel.

This should help protect it, and I enjoy the grip much better. I added a new passenger door pull grip. I installed a Sony CD/MP3 player, an Alpine amp, and Polk Audio speakers. I replaced the entire center console, including armrest. I also added a new inner shift boot and outter shift boot. I rewired much of the wiring harness behind the heating console. And lastly I installed a brand new walnut Z shift knob.

The p/o had cut holes in the door panels for speakers. I will probably replace them some day, but for now it fills in the sound a little more evenly.

I still plan to rebuild the carbs and fix some rust spots (surprise). Also, I think the rear diff mount needs replacement. It's just begun to pop when backing up.

My goal was to get a car that had most of the restoration completed, and in some ways I accomplished that. But every project I begin opens new doors to new problems that I didn't know existed.

All part of the fun.
