Description
I have owned this car 2 years, title is in my name and is clear Vin # HLS3016190 the date on the car is 12/70 but the title says 71 ...It had been sitting for about 2-3 years before that, so I was going to V8 the car and it sit inside my shop for the last year and a half. But after looking at it I thought , I don't want to V8 this car its to nice and original to mess it up....Then I got a invite to car show in Colorado, so I thought what the heck, I'll take the Z... I had started it a few times before to move it around the shop so I knew it ran and wouldn't take much to get it road worthy, first I got it tuned up, cleaned up and breaks working, lights working..but the wiper arms weren't working, one would but the pass. side wouldn't, no biggie I just rainX it good. so the arms need to be hooked back up. Then I took it down to get the front end aligned and new tires put on it...
The floors where rusted and could see ground, so I didn't have time to put all new pans in so I cleaned up the holes and welded in some galvanized metal the I put a self sticking roll roofing material called Peel & Seal.. its 45mils thick used for roof repairs. Has a 10 year warranty and I have put this stuff on many car as a sound deadening material... works great. I put the some black carpet from the parts store on in it, for now..The trunk, hatch, rear area, doors, fenders, under the battery tray, engine bay rails, rear quarters are all good, rust is light or with light paint bubbles... The drivers door has been replaced, you can see where they repainted it...99.99% of the car is metal. I dont know of any bondo on the car..The side pipes I already had and the stock pipe was bad so I thought I would be different and put them on. I like them, look good and are loud ... but they need to be welded if you where going to keep them, they do leak a little now...
So now I'm ready for the 2 day trip to Gunnison, Colorado. 553 miles one way... well I made it to the show and stayed with a friend in Denver and then back home, 1240 miles total... WOW!!! She did it.. but the fuel tank was bad... I had to put a electric fuel pump and about 6 filters on her to make the trip back home... so I removed the tank and put a new 10gal fuel cell with foam and a sending unit in the spare tire well. Just until I could get a replacement tank or the other one repaired. The tank has 2 pin size holes in it with a rusty bottom. The manual fuel pump is still on the motor. I have the original tank.
I now have installed new door seals, rear glass seal, I have a new bullet style door mirror & the two rear hatch vent covers for it (not installed). I have all new break pads for it when it needs them...all gauges work, the oil and temp are temperamental some times they work and other times they don't, a tap on the dash gets them going... the lights on the 3 small gauges did work but now don't, maybe just the bulbs... she runs good now that I went with a new fuel tank... The rear hatch wont stay up by its self, needs a new strut..I have changed the slave cylinder for the clutch, it started leaking. I took it off and put new seals in. The dash has cracks like all of them, the steering wheel is stock..... it is all Original but the side pipes and fuel system .
It starts easy, the heater works good, but the doors to change it from vent to like defrost or floor is sticking, I believe it is due to not being used for awhile... like all 41 year old cars that have sat for a period of time... it's got its little fix it stuff, but nothing to keep her from being drove every day... I have seen Z cars a lot worse then this go for much more then what I'm asking, I could ask for more but with it being this time of year and the way the economy is, I fell its a fair price.
The reason I want to sell it and the other Z's is I had a 74 260Z that had a V8, it was a car that I loved but had to sell due to a death in the family a few years ago and now the owner called me and asked if I would like to buy it back... I was floored... and said yes!!! So now I have to sell the ones I have now to get it back.....
Here are some pics, take a look and if you need more let me know... I hope I didn't bore you to death with my short story about the car, but that's what I have been through with her..
Thanks, Chris.
