  1. Hi all, I have a few questions regarding these mirrors: They're aluminum-body, bullet-type mirrors from a fellow forum member's 240z that he's parting out. Aside from needing fresh paint, they're in great shape and the adjusting ball is still plenty tight. First, are these OEM mirrors, or perhaps a factory aftermarket option? They are definitely a right/left pair with different mirror angles and seem to be pretty good quality. Second, as the picture shows, only one mirror had a bracket holding it to the door - the driver-side one was screwed directly to the sheet metal with what look like plastic drywall anchors. Assuming the brackets are the proper mode of installation, how difficult are these little brackets to come by? Finally, the glass in the mirrors is not parabolic, it's just flat glass. Was this the standard for the early 70's, or were there mirrors that I should hold out for that did have parabolic glass? Thanks, everyone

So I got my car put back together and did some night time driving for the first time this season and got to try out my new pulse width dimmer and dash LED's. I'm thrilled with the results of how the job turned out. I know it's really hard to describe with words how bright the LED's are now, but I would say... "They are a little brighter than the original incandescents turned all the way up, but they are a purer white than the originals." Here's the LED bulbs that I used. Six on the left with the top emitter removed and a 240 Ohm resistor built into the base. These are for everything other than the clock. The clock wanted a little more brightness due to the construction of the clock and the way the light has more internal obstructions before it gets to the face. Because of that, I used a 150 Ohm resistor for the clock emitter. And the wedge base paddlewheel on the right was for the HVAC panel. I shorted out all the original resistors an inserted a 1K Ohm resistor in series with the whole device. For that one, I broke the original ground side connection and inserted the resistor there. All of them are warm white, and here they are all done and glued back together ready for install: And here's a closeup of the paddlewheel for the HVAC trying to show how I inserted the 1k:

TomoHawk, I can't believe those paddlewheels aren't on ebay. I thought they were everywhere! I like a good pun and all, but that's just sad. ?
  4. Shot a test panel to try to pick a color for Cody's 510 These colors are all "orange" from top to bottom 918 056 022 That's from memory and it's not what it once was. I substituted a hardener so it was curing slow and my paper stuck in the first color. He likes 022 the best... 056 is really not orange, I like it, but it's more like Garnet...

Ha! Bender is awesome!! I'm thinking about moving the ebay posts to the blogs... this might be a better compromise since the posts won't clutter the forums.
  6. i followed the steps of captain obvious's first option, volvo check valve and audi hose. i lied to the ebay seller and told him i had a volvo so he'd send me the part. i don't have a lathe so i just shortened the threads on the check valve with my bench grinder, worked fine. i trimmed less than 4" off the total length of the hose, everything fit together perfect and leak free, fuel pressure holds overnight and the car now starts almost at the thought of turning the key! such an improvement. thanks!
  7. Put my 77' in it's first car show today. Got a lot of love from a lot of folks!
  8. Here are a few of the parts that I have received recently: New seatbelt were a must for my wife to feel safe. Got the new oil cap in that I ordered. I really like the elephant oil cap. A friend of mine gave me this distributor. Hope it is good. E12-80? Research required. Stainless steel screw/nut/bolt/washer set for the entire car. Kameari intake maniford. Triple Mikuni 44 PHH Kameari valve cover. Kameari valve cover fit test on L28 engine. I will keep everyone up to date as we continue this journey together.

I installed the replacement pre-shaped hoses from datsunroadster.com this summer and it made all of the difference in the world. Once I re-balanced the SU's the car ran great. It still as a bit of a stumble which I will work on in the spring. jlp
