I read about this several days ago and have been viewing the various posts on here and FB about him. I never met him in person or spoke to him on the phone but his contributions to the automotive community are abundant. Add to that he sounded like a very generous person with his time and knowledge. It is very sad to hear of his passing and in the manner that it happened. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and close friends that knew him well. He will be truly missed. May his passing be a reminder to all of us that our time and the time of those we care about is limited. If you have a friend or family member you have not spoken to lately or heard from, give 'em call, drop 'em a line, I am sure they would love to hear from you.
  2. Dumpster diving was how I met my first wife.
  3. I got first dibs if you are going to throw it away . Seriously, hope you get her fixed and fixed right. You'll probably really like the set up once she's running right.
  4. Well so the mechanic called back. I discussed with him about making sure things were in spec and he pretty much said the head looks to be in flawless shape and he doesn't think anything above could have caused what he found. He said in his opinion it was one of two things: improper break in, someone hot roded it shortly after install or it was cheap cheap Pistons that were used. I dunno. I just told him to get er done. For everything it's gonna cost me a g to have her back on the road with new pistons. If she breaks again the engine will be ripped out with force and thrown in the dumpster to make way for the RB power plant Also, wanted to add, I just spoke with Eiji Hosomi from Datsun Spirit. What a stand up guy. In no way was I looking for compensation on his part for any of this, but he still offered to send a complete set of used "but in really good shape" pistons and rods for free for me to use in the process. He had no idea why this happened, he was actually speechless. He said this is unheard of. So, all I can do is wish for the best.
  5. Get it running BEFORE the bills start coming in and drive it, You'll have a daily source of joy (healing) around while you're getting thru these tough times and the value for your running Z will keep rising at the same time. WIN, WIN, WIN!
  6. Here is the series 2 wheel I just finished. This one also turned out great. Complete wheel with horn pad and nut/washer. If you would like to have your own wheel refurbished instead, contact me. Thanks. -Dave http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/331791880219?

Mike McGinness at Banzai is an honorable man, he has been supplying quality items to the Z community for many years as well as supplying excellent mechanical services. He is "old school" on his order and payment process. You should have NO concerns over sending him a check for your order. And... the engine paint he sells is ZCCA certified for color authenticity.
  8. Welcome to classiczcars.com! The archives are great. Stay in school as long as you can stand it. 8^)
  9. He probably doesn't have a thing considering the thread is 12 years old.
  10. I am going to be removing the set that I have on my 240 and selling them this week. This is the metal (aluminum) set that has two bolted hinges on the the top that allow the whole assembly to tilt up for cleaning the glass. The unit is secured by two allen screws at the bottom against rails that run under the weatherstripping of the rear glass. I will try to take some additional pics tomorrow of the setup.
  11. I have also been thinking about buying a rear window louver. I know MSA sells them (be sure to tell them you are a member of this site and recieve a 10% discount of all your orders - you do need to know your CZCC account number). Does anybody have any pictures they can post. I have searched and did not come up with much info at all. I know there are two different types metal and plastic and my choice would be the metal. The price at MSA is $264.95 and a discount for club members at $238.46 - being a CZCC member does have its rewards, (are you a supporting member - another reason to be one, right?) freight to my area is $28.00 and it is a two piece put together unit. The MSA is attached with metal tabs not screwed into your hatch, and they told me it takes 10 minutes to remove it for cleaning if needed. That is all I know but would like to see some detailed pictures if anybody has made the purchase recently from MSA. Thanks in advance!
