after 35 years on the high seas I retired on Wednesday. fished lake erie and lake huron ( commercial gill nets) mostly for perch walleye whitefish and lake trout. tough hard job. no pension, only a hardy hand shake and a fine farewell. fortunately me and the wife lived modestly within our means. the zed and 68 mustang ( which she recently sold) were the only extravagant purchase for us and that was late in life. after getting up at 3 oclock every morning now I can toss the alarm. lots of time to cruise and golf.
  2. I finally took some time and timed my newly rebuilt 2.4. I initially had set the idle timing to 10 degrees and noticed it would flatten out around 5,000 RPM so I knew I had some more tuning to do. So today, a month later, I took some vacuum readings and actually used the $100 dial back timing light I got for Christmas. My results, 17 hgs of ported vacuum at 2,500, off the front carb's vacuum advance hose. Good I think. Set the static/idle to 17 degrees at 800 RPM then ran the dial back function up to 34, it's digital, and set the RPM to 2,500 and shot the pulley. Dead on 0, TDC mark on the pulley. Went for a drive, ran great. A brand new Corvette was out too. I pull up alongside him and we exchange thumbs up, he looks ahead I drop down to 3rd gear and floor it. You know how autos hesitate for a second while they spin up? I pulled ahead of him for that one second then he shot by me like an RPG. He slowed down to get beside me, gave me a salute and a smile as did I for him. Wonderful morning!
  3. Or we could see if @nix240z would fabricate some?
  4. Don't think you'll experience any culture shock at Bimmerforums.....my son (Five and Dime) put a Chevy Competion LS 7 in his 2003 BMW wagon. Getting a BMW to communicate with a Chevy engine and A/C is quite a task. The guys on the Bimmerforums loved it. So did Motor Trend Magazine. They are running it at Road Atlanta this Fall and filming it for their YouTube channel.
  5. Maybe a different approach may help you. Try putting a light bulb in place of the fuse, then go around to all the lights or other accessories and wiggle them around while someone watches the brightness of the light bulb. Look for changes in the intensity as you manipulate things. if there is rust or some other circuit path that is leaking current, hopefully mussing around with the connectors will disturb it enough to point it out.
  6. Sorry all. I did pick up a Nov 1969 L24 in Fla. and drove back to Canada with it. The plan was to see Steve, you, Patcon, Baddog. Cptn Ob on the way home but due to work we had to high-tail it back. It has been busy since. Hopefully will see some of you at Zcon! I communicated with Matthew about my D crank.
  7. Purchased my 72 Z in 1976. 40 years ago. Wow, I can't believe it.

As far as Social Security goes, you take a substantial hit if you start collecting at 62 compared to 65. Something to remember is that if you don't start collecting at 65/66, your entitlement amount goes up 8% a year for every year you delay until age 70. You kind of have to play the odds if longevity runs in your family. Interestingly, 70 is the last legally significant birthday you have to keep track of (16 for driving, 18 to vote, 21 to drink, 65/66 for SS & Medicare, 70 for maximum SS and mandatory time to start tapping IRA accounts for required minimum distributions if you haven't already.) so mark your calendar, take your chances, and plan your retirement Z budget accordingly. The wasted and broke ramen would be a big hit with college students. Wash the soup for sluts ramen down with some smooth vergina beer then try a Finger Marie. But stay away from the Barfy burger. It's a "flow pack"
