Old photos of my 1971 Redwing
7 pointsHi, I found some photos of my original Z, 1971, Redwing. When I got her from the dealer, she had 7 miles on the odometer. I was scared to death to driver her home after dark, I had never driven anything with any power. I'd had a VW bus! And the radio was playing the song "D.O.A". Anyone remember it? That was scary in itself. Needless to say, I got over that quickly, with my beautiful car. The color one was before we left, of her sitting right by the front to door, grinning in delight, anticipating the trip. And the black & white photos were when we (my son & myself) were camping. And yes, I packed all our camping equipment in her deck. I drove to Mt. Washington in N.H., where we climbed the mountain, the highest peak in the eastern U.S., 6,288 feet. Amazing trip travelling on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a lot of the trip, with all those curves! Oh yes, I zoomed her all the way. Wheee... Thought you all might get a kick out of seeing these. My Hoarding of Z Parts
2 pointsThese are all reason that I try and trade what I have for what I need. If I can't trade I will go through periods where I put items on ebay to invest the monies back in my Z projects. Sometimes when I find a rare part I purchase it with no current need but know that it will be needed by someone sometime and I can possibly trade for something rare that I need. It all keeps the parts in circulation for Z car lovers and preservers.2 points

My Hoarding of Z Parts
2 pointsI've been buying S30's and scrapping rotten S30's for the last 35 years. I still find uses for some of the first parts I ever removed back in the mid-80's. When I was young and started hording Z parts, I stored them in my dad's basement and garage. When I entered the workforce, I moved out of state and started a new collection of parts. A few years ago, my dad sold his house and moved to Phoenix, so it was time to gather my parts and bring them back to Michigan. It took a full 24 foot enclosed car trailer to get everything home. Needless to say, my garage is rather full now. My current plan is to sell cheap or give away parts I don't think I will ever need to local Z owners in need. If I can keep another Z on the road and reduce my clutter at the same time, I'm happy.2 points

Somethings wrong...
1 pointExedy is a good brand of clutch. They are an OEM supplier to many car brands. Daiken is the parent company, have been around for a long time and they make very good products. When my engine was rebuilt the engine builder put in an Exedy OEM clutch kit. I was very pleased when I saw the Daiken manufacturing stamps. You should have no worries there. Edit: Daiken/Exedy clutch plates are a nice upgrade from the factory disc. Ventilated and with better materials than the stock disc. fair amount of metallic particles in the disc. This is good for longevity and they will take a lot of abuse.1 point

Somethings wrong...
1 pointHi Site, I'm wanting to get the clutch kit ordered asap. Today I verified with Pete, the mechanic to do the work, that he will do it and allow me to pay as I can. He is real agreeable, said to call when the parts are here. I want to check with you to see if this kit from Amazon is complete for the job, as you had advised me to make sure. The kit I'm looking at is: "Exedy kit on Amazon, after typing in my car info (1976 Datsun 280 Z), was the first one listed. EXEDY 06009 OEM Replacement Clutch Kit" I also asked Pete about the flywheel, and he said it is up to me, but a good idea to do it if it needs it. So I asked "but if it goes bad not too long after the clutch is done, that would make it prudent to work on it now while already into the clutch, right?" He agreed, saying it would be an extra $30 - 40, tagged onto the clutch bill, but no problem. So he is going to decide after looking at it, while already into the clutch, and will go from there. Please get back with me about this clutch kit, I want to order it at the latest tomorrow. Need to get on with this job. I'm going to lose the SUV my son lent me any day now, it is one of his work trucks for his surveying. Thank you, Jai1 point

Fairlady 432 at Auction
1 pointI started to read the description in the auction article and had to stop. Too much BS salesmanship. The wheel choice sucks. The crooked gauges are easy to fix and should have been. They have a Z432, good for them. But they did a half arse preparation of it all. The Fairlady Z 432 offered here is possibly one of the finest examples to come out of Japan. Incredibly rare, as only 420 units were produced, many of which have met their fates on the racing circuit or have been heavily modified beyond recognition over the years. As a result, it is extraordinary to find a highly correct car such as this, and rarer yet in lovely, restored condition, even in Japan, let alone the literal handful that are known to have been imported by connoisseur enthusiasts IF you can read that and not gag, you have more intestinal fortitude than I.1 point

MSA satin black Konig Rewinds are coming.. need tires
Are you sure the front and rear are in the right positions? I've read a lot of stories of people installing them in the wrong positions. The longer springs go in the rear, but in some cases, the springs are mis-marked from Eibach.1 point

My Hoarding of Z Parts
1 pointI just wish I kept the "right" parts. Way back when, it was difficult to know what would become rare and difficult to find. I just thought I was saving parts that I would need short-term. Now decades later, I realized that I tossed future valuable parts and kept things that are now a dime a dozen.1 point

Somethings wrong...
1 pointGood morning all, Redbird has been sitting all this time. Now that my social security will be coming tomorrow, I'm going to check if I can eek the parts for the clutch out of it. I have a small surplus in it this month due to me buying one of Deanna's meds last month. I have decided to try to go with the Exedy kit. Several have mentioned it is a good kit. Thank all of you for giving me information, it helps me a lot when I am so unknowledgeable about it, and other things. Hopefully RB will be done soon, so I can join Site at the car show April 1. Yayyy... Jai1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointToday I took my 240ZG for a couple of ours to enjoy windings near my house . At near the end of the driving , the shift lever did not want to engage , I found the clutch operating cylinder had a leak. I need to replace 11/16 adjustable cylinder. Kats1 point

My clollection
1 pointHi, just for the reference. Here are many pictures used for the service manual. I posted about the prototype cars before, Primary production prototype #12 is HLS30-00003 , and this car belongs to a section E81 (service) . I just imagined this pictures's car could be HLS30-00003. What things were changed between 00003 and 00007 ? There could have been a lot of things changed, or a just few things. One thing about a red car on the brochure, the aircleaner box has ordinary wing nuts. Very early cars have hexagon head bolts. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Each car has each place(department) to belong and has subject to be used. 1 = S30-00001 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 2 = HLS30-00001 Q21 (production factory study) 3 = PS30-00001 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 4 = HLS30-00002 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 5 = S30-00002 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 6 = PS30-00002 K11 (registration) 7 = HS30-00001 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 8 = S30-00003 K11 (registration) 9 = S30-00004 F45 (K31 spare) 10 = S30-00005 F45 (K31 spare) 11 = PS30-00003 F45 (K31 spare) 12 = HLS30-00003 E81 (service; service manual? kats) 13 = S30-00006 F45 (for press/media) 14 = PS30-00004 F45 (K31 spare) This report is dated 25th Jun 1969. -------------------------------------------------------------- Kats1 point
