Old photos of my 1971 Redwing
3 pointsNo thanks on the name. I may be mature (I don't use the "O" word), and my body failing some, but darn it I don't feel like a Grandma. My mind is stuck somewhere in the '70's. I like it !3 points

Somethings wrong...
2 pointsSite, I knew you were just too cool for words! That is so neat of you doing that for your neighbors, if more people would do things like that, this world would be a lot better off. I believe that it is up to each of us to help others, be it only a smile or kind word when noticing a need. That can really make someone's day, besides it feels good inside us too. A win win. John Lennon said it right, Love, love, love... all you need is love! Have a blessed day, Jai2 points

Somethings wrong...
2 pointsJai I mow a few yards around here for nice people that need a little help now and again, never ask for money. Sometimes I'll get a big ole plate wrapped in foil sitting in the bed of my truck of food like Mom cooks. Sometimes just a honest Thank You and a smile like you described, "door to door". I don't have much income either but a lot of "come on in" around here. Nothing better than having good friendly neighbors. If the police tried to get me they'd have to arrest the whole neighborhood. It'll workout for you and Pete. Try and not worry too much, good things happen to good people.2 points

Somethings wrong...
2 pointsHi all, Yesterday the clutch parts arrived. Yesssss.... I talked to Pete and I am scheduled to take Redbird to him on Thursday morning. This is getting real exciting now. Also, I finally did a run with her, testing to see if the alcohol had any effect on the maybe water in the gas tank. I drove 22 miles, and really put her thru her paces. We drove in all sorts of tests. Fast, slow, quick stops, slow stops, very quick starting... anything I could think of to try to get her to stall/shutdown, nothing. Nothing had any effect on her, she drove like a champ.. I had warmed her before leaving, and she was fully hot during the driving. Maybe the page has turned on her dying episodes. But then again, it did happen intermittently, so we will have to wait and see. But it sure was a wonderful drive, my grin went from door to door. I did discuss finances with Pete again. He seems to be content with me paying when I can. But what he does not know is my lack of ability to pay him. I just do not have much extra $ in my account anytime. By the time I pay my "have too's" at the start of each month, there is very little left for the rest of the month, to use for food, gas, or any unforseen expenses. Those unforseen ones are the beasts. No time to figure how to pay them, they just suddenly happen and demand cash. I think those are universal to everyone. Ugh. Well that is the latest news folks, guess I'll quit now and go back to my nervous fidgeting, waiting for Thursday. Again, many thanks for all of your assistance in getting myself and Redbird to this point. Jai2 points

Engine rough running - at wits end
2 pointsI tried out the fog machine tonight. It worked spectacularly well. I found a huge vacuum leak around the #5 injector. I must have not gotten the sealing ring lined up when I installed it a while back. I disassembled the rear half of the fuel rail and redid everything. Another fog test showed no leaks. I turned the key and it started right up. It's smooth as silk. I set idle speed and timing once it had warmed up. It revs freely with no hesitation or popping. I am SOOOOO HAPPY right now! Thanks to all of you for your help, advice, encouragement and patience. I can be an idiot sometimes. But with your help I've made a big step forward tonight. Thank you. . Unicorn Alert: 240Z Fan Shroud
1 pointUnicorn: a mythical animal typically represented as a horse with a single straight horn projecting from its forehead. Alt.: a rare Datsun part, usually made of unobtanium. For Sale: Rare Nissan Fan Shroud for 240Z. This is P/N 21475-E4102, a fully reconditioned metal fan shroud to fit the OE radiator frame of a 240Z. This one was stripped to bare metal, acid washed to provide a protective layer of zinc phosphate, two coats of self-etching primer - wet sanded to remove dust, ...etc., two coats of gloss black enamel, wet sanded and buffed. A set of new bolts and washers, newly plated, is included (not JIS). Why all the prep detail? I was planning to install this on my car but determined it was handling the Texas heat just fine with the 3-row radiator core. The last one to sell on JDMCarParts.com went for $500. https://jdm-car-parts.com/…/metal-fan-shroud-for-240z-genui… This one is priced at $400, shipping extra at actual cost.1 point

240Z/260Z/280Z as a Daily Driver?
Wise? What does wise have to do with old sports cars? The ECU's aren't tunable or chippable or modifiable. You'd need standalone if you want to play around with tuning. Most people seem to go with Megasquirt due to cost but there are many more options, some every expensive.1 point

Bling Alert: Polished 240Z Flow Guide Valve
Presumably so - vapors from the fuel tank and oil pan are routed to the back of the carbs air filter housing to get pulled into the engine for burning. This little valve is mounted just under the ballast resistor.1 point

Looking for Early 240Z Airbox and Radio
Interesting I've only seen this 1 particular style of airbox used in Australian market cars. But I haven't done an in-depth comparison between boxes fitted to different years admittedly. For your reference I'm attaching a picture of the engine bay of HS30 0004 the earliest known Australian market delivered HS30 and earliest known surviving HS30 for that matter. It has the same sticker it would appear.1 point

What would I do without you guys... Alright, looks like I'm passing on this one. Not all bad, though, as it was a great opportunity to learn some things.1 point

Racing Question: How does one deal with fuel delivery and high banked, high speed curves like Fuji, Monza, & Daytona?
As Mr. Hendrix asked "are you experienced" I know I am. In my experience they don't so much as melt but rather are consumed (read eaten) by an angry beast looking for fuel. Metal can serve as a fuel for just a limited amount of time before really bad things happen. I have twin pumps that are plumbed to separate duckbill pickups in the left and right corners of the fuel cell which in turn connect to the filter and then to the engine bay (second filter). If one pump fails, the other will get me through unless I lose it on a very banked NASCAR track (an unlikely event). Holley makes a flat screen pillow pickup that covers most of the bottom of a cell. When it's time to replace the foam/bladder I might go in that direction.1 point

How do I rebuilt my carb
1 pointDo you have the air filter enclosure? It appears to be missing in the picture. You'll want the air filter in place before running too much air through those carbs. Also, looks like the car was originally silver based on the paint in the engine compartment. You might want to look for panel rot on the rockers, doglegs, and rear fender arches. Dennis1 point

How do I rebuilt my carb
1 pointI would wait on spending the money on the carbs. See what exactly is missing from them, get the SU video from Ztherapy and a few parts, do a quick rebuild and see how it runs first. If the motor is shot for reason, you be happier having the money on hand for other things. Heck, you might want to do a compression check before you spend a penny on anything. Also, pull the valve cover carefully to save the gasket to ensure the cam isn't rusted bad and pour some fresh oil all over the cam if it's not. Have you cranked the car? If not I would spray some light oil in the cylinders as well. Lighty turn over by hand, then crank with the battery.1 point

How do I rebuilt my carb
1 pointYou've got a bit of work ahead of you. I've seen rust on fenders, rockers, doors, radiators, control arms, etc. but this is the first time I've seen rust on an oil filter. This tells us two things: 1. The oil filter seal is OK 2. We'd all like to see photos of the engine once you get it disassembled.1 point

How do I rebuilt my carb
1 pointBest depends on your specific condition. A really great thing to do is to buy a Ztherapy redo of your carbs. When you get them back, they will be perfect and when troubleshooting other things, you can definitely count out the carbs. When solving car problems you are often faced with many possible causes for a specific issue. The more can eliminate the better. Getting the Ztherapy treatment is a great way of having a good known carburetor. But it is not the cheapest solution. You car needs some TLC and much of that can be accomplished with a methodical slow approach to the problems. I wish you luck!1 point

Doing laps *incar videos*
1 pointThis is one of my personal favorites. First. because I created it by accident and second, because I won! When I first watched it i was amazed at how close to an F1 car it sounds. Don't turn up the speakers if you're in public. Greg1 point

1 pointIf it's paved...drive on it. As long as it doesn't upset the suspension, the fastest way around can involve putting a wheel on the curbing.1 point

1 pointLove the long fast American tracks, the only ones comparable in AU would be Mt Panaroma (Bathurst) and Phillip Island although I can do over 200kph at Lakeside and through The Kink too which adds to the, errrr, excitement I find that the alternative coloured kerbs can be handy as markers eg corner apex, otherwise the problem is that there is always someone who will cut a corner and throw up rubbish onto the track.1 point
