  1. The dash pot might need adjustment. It has what looks like a game piece or vacuum fitting on the top. Screw it in toward the throttle linkage to slow down the action. When my engine was running rich I found that the idle speed would drop lower when the the pedal was lifted. Sounds more like a minor tuning problem than a loss of coil power. You can use the dashpot adjustment to bandaid it while you fine-tune the rest. Also, advancing the timing caused my idle sped to drop more on throttle lift. Lots of little things can add up. Good that you're in to the small details now though. Check the roll pins in the shift fork if you get it that far apart. Also the wear pads on the shift fork. And the coupling sleeve. And the bearing, and the nut on the end of the shaft. Check the drain plug magnet for metal "clues" and the fluid for plastic or brass clues.
  2. These are very well built and fit is extremely clean. Look forward to future products Disepyon may produce. Obvious he is talents and meticulous with his work. Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  3. I was in the garage working on my Jeep, looked over to the Z with all the dust on it and thought "I've got to get this sold".. Much as I hate to do it the sweet Z must go. I've had it since 1981 but haven't done anything with it for at least 5 years. I'm getting too old and enjoy offroading too much to do any justice with the Z. Will be a bad day when it goes from my life - just love that car to pieces.
  4. Update: She lives again! One of the Classic Z guys came by with a spare distributor, we hooked it up and she started right up and drove just like it did years ago. Probably was the pickup coil but the distributor I had was on it's way out anyway so it's good it got replaced. Thank yall again for helping me decipher my car and engine and contacting Mr. Wolf to help me out. Might have been able to do it without, but yall saved me a lot of headache and frustration. Hopefully this thread might help someone else identify their problems. Take care yall and thanks again!
  5. Looks good compared to my badly faded #305 blue. After you wash it remember to raise the hatch and dry off the latch area. The rain gutters on the sides don't go all the way down and water gets in. Here's my "Blue Jean Blues" faded Z.
  6. Left the duct tape at home? No problem.
  7. What a great innovation. I've been lucky with the big honkin' pipe wrench so far but this is all too easy for the next time.
  8. Ah, the feeling of success. Like a thousand tiny monkeys off your back.. I love that feeling. Just remember it when you get to the spindle pins.
  9. No video. But a few photos after a fluid change and wash. I drove it around my neighborhood for about 15 minutes and it runs pretty good. I need to do a thorough tune up and bleed the brakes before I drive it much. But I couldn't resist a shakedown drive. The only thing I can find wrong is a burned out license plate bulb and the power antenna is inoperative. Sent from my XT1254 using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  10. These look similar if not the same. https://www.securecableties.com/4-inch-black-miniature-push-mount-cable-tie-100-pack?gclid=CNfJ65TRytICFVC4wAod_PsDMA
  11. Ok, so now I must confess, and I do this with great humility that I discovered the problem while sitting next to the car with the tires off making measurements and thinking what did I do wrong. Before I tell you please understand I have only owned the car for a few months and had no knowledge of how it was set up. So, I am sitting just staring into the distance as one will when tired of trying to solve a problem when my gaze falls upon the tires. Yes, the tires, they are different sizes!!! One is 185 (obviously ment for the front) and one is 205 (back). I'm sure I had the 205 on the front when I went for my test drive and thus, wheel rub. In my defense they are black wall tires and so it is not that obvious but non the less I ask that you not laugh directly in my presence...Oh, and don't let this stop you from helping me in the future.... 12. I like beer, and people who show up with beer.
  13. You're right. That oil filter needs new paint. Good luck!
  14. For 70k the dealer is having a wet dream. 1997, 27k is about 41k in todays dollars. It is worth 40k over initial cost? It's supply/demand I guess and how valuable a factory authorized (not performed like Porsche does) resoration is to the buyer. Fine examples of 70/71 cars can be gotten for way less. It is beautiful though. That said, the Z432 that sold for over 250k was surprising but not unexpected since there were so few made (about 20) and they were truly special cars.
  15. Id be interested in reading the research paper as well!
  16. Anyone know the correct length for the driveshaft to be cut between the second generation 5 spd and the r200 diff? I have a 280zx driveshaft with the correct splines, but I realize it may be too long and need to be shortened to fit my 280Z Sent from Canadia
