  1. Yeah.....We've got oil coming out of the woodwork! Time to get rid of alcohol in gasoline.....get rid of 2% a year for 5 years.....then gone. That would give farmers a chance to adjust! .......out of here!!!!!!
  2. I have some OEM NOS rust for sale, cheap!
  3. Even the rust was from the factory...
  4. Yea now I understand. I think I'll wait and let him show me how with his Z first. Hahaha... Jai
  5. Yes, those appear to be the real deal although I know of only one "re-manufacture" and even those were very well done. I don't know of the "cheap knock-offs" the seller is talking about. According to Kats, the trim rings came in four different designs. Here is his sketch.
  6. Many more thanks going out to the super members on this group. I swear, we have the best group on the net. As of tonight, 2 more donations came in for RedBird's clutch! The total of the donations is now almost 2/3 the full cost of the clutch job. Wow (my new favorite word). Oh how wonderful this is. I have reached all the "gifters" and thanked them. I'm so happy that you all care for RedBird and myself. I'm humbled with joy. Thank you over and over again... Jai
  7. Just wanted to bring this thread to a successful close. Finally had a chance to go on a test drive and yes it was the tires. Perfect clearance with both small tires up front and it did appear the back wheel hub was thicker than the front making the problem worse. I am located just outside of Austin in the Lakeway area. I cannot thank everyone enough for helping, this blog is the best, just goes to show good people drive Z's. I am reliving my youth, as I am sure many of you are as well, it was the car I drove in my 20's but rust and milage caught up with my first one when I did not have the money to repair. Here is my new one that I am going to slowly bring back to its original, if not better, state. Here's to hoping all your future repairs and restorations are successful. 8. Happy Birthday Mark... Starting a Birthday card for you. You have been of such good assistance to a lot of the members, I thought it would be appropriate to let everyone know you are turning 68 today, and giving them a chance to wish you well too. Hope you are having a great day, and eating a lot of ice cream and cake. Jai Rusu_Mihai_-_Universal_Happy_Birthday.mp3
  9. The cars were painted one color everywhere. The body color paint code is what is used for the underside.
  10. My extra seats are now office chairs. Makes your day go by quicker!
  11. Guilty as charged, but if someone needs them later and I don't change my mind they will be restored and available for trade. JLP
  12. Same thing happened to me. I forgot to get them while I was at the parts store. Put the old ones back on thinking I would replace them in a week. I week turned into 2 and so on. I heard something clanging around while driving and remembered what I forgot to do Those washers are expensive to replace too!
  13. I took this project on last year. I don't recall what brand of string I used (Gator?) but was able to find it 0.130 diameter. I ended up replacing the complete length of the string which required dismantling the entire antenna mast. Yes, the tip screws off. Some people actually glued them back in the day to keep the tip from being stolen, use heat sparingly though. Each section has a brass insert crimped to keep the mast from disassembling itself when retracted. I used a dremel cut-off wheel and cut just above each crimp (keep the brass insert for later use). When fully disassembled you will have a small pin that holds the line in the final antenna section. Remove the pin, if the line does not pull out then just drill out (be sure to be centered). Once you have it out measure what length cut it. The end of your line you plan to insert use 80 grit paper and scuff. I used gorilla glue (thin coat), insert into the antenna section and let cure, once cured then drill hole for pin and force pin through. You're ready for reassembly. As you reassemble each antenna section insert the brass insert and crimp. You antenna is ready for reassembly. My housing was corroded so I stuck it in the blasting cabinet, cleaned it up, lubed what needed (gears) lubed and reassembled. Looks and works like new.
  14. Another option? One intrepid fellow back in the early 1900's had a problem with water in his alcohol fuel. He ran the alcohol fuel through a canister of calcium carbide. The water in the fuel reacted with the calcium carbide making acetylene gas, which he piped into the air intake. It worked so well that he had to introduce more water into the fuel to raise the octane level. But that only increased the acetylene. BTW, the early engines were called explosion engines. Some even tried gunpowder.
  15. Oregon's farmers are in their glory days. Keep Oregon green.
  16. EBay, join hybridz.org also at times the hybriz folks tend to gut interiors. Also put out a WTB ad in all the parts forum.
  17. OK now I understand your joke. Hahaha... Bet you wouldn't do it with one of your Z's either! I don't have to remember the spring ahead, my phone does it all by itself. That's why they're called smartphones. Jai
  18. Now you can pull out those old shrubs around the house.
  19. Lol, you'll get used to it pretty quickly. Not used to having a clutch grip right. Wish I could have seen the expression on your face as you took off in her for the first time after the clutch install. I bet it was like....
  20. 1 point
Not clear if you're replying to me or the OP. We both have 280Z's. Shims are the key on the Z. I accidentally threw them away on mu Pathfinder though and haven't had a problem, over a couple of new pad sets and about 200,000 miles, on the original rotors (the whole car is now a longevity experiment). Must come from the design.
  21. Zoom Zoom (to the tire store) Glad your happy with the clutch. Deanna will stay pinned to the back of the seat now. Y'all both are gonna need fancy driving gloves.
  22. Gold is a tough colour to work with, it reminds us of all that chessy trim that was so popular in the 80s, but just a shade darker is the bronze that has been used on many race cars and to my eye, looks great.
  23. From all his past post he wants someone to say YES or NO. So can you or anybody else tell him YES or NO? So, if a simple Yes or No is all that's needed......... YES! Totally safe. The car won't catch fire, drive into a ditch, or tip over because the choke is open. However, for 46 years, I've judged when to back off on the choke by performance feel, not by looking at the temperature gauge or the clock. That's been my experience in starting and driving in ambient temperatures ranging from minus 20 degrees to 120 degrees F. Real seat of the pants driving just like knowing when to shift by sound and feel rather than looking at the tach. The Z is a car for all seasons. Dennis
  24. I like beer, and people who show up with beer.
  25. Jai I mow a few yards around here for nice people that need a little help now and again, never ask for money. Sometimes I'll get a big ole plate wrapped in foil sitting in the bed of my truck of food like Mom cooks. Sometimes just a honest Thank You and a smile like you described, "door to door". I don't have much income either but a lot of "come on in" around here. Nothing better than having good friendly neighbors. If the police tried to get me they'd have to arrest the whole neighborhood. It'll workout for you and Pete. Try and not worry too much, good things happen to good people.
  26. These look like mine although I do not have these, mine are from 1972. The ones from MSA have a block cut out around "240Z". Mine have stuck on for a long time with very little peeling, mainly (I think) from being washed too hard down the door to the top strip. If you are getting a respray with clear coat maybe they could spray over the decals? I don't know how that would work though, the clear could attack the vinyl decal? I think a phone call would be helpful. I am happy with mine for what I've spent. It's not restored but modified, so an "unresto-mod". http://stripegarage.com/collections/datsun-240z-260z-280z/products/datsun-240-z-triple-stripe-vinyl-decal?variant=14729170374
  27. I wouldn't accept the car if given to me for the mere fact that both air cleaner wingnuts are not in the 3 and 9 o'clock position
