  1. Hopefully Kats won't mind me answering that question. I think you're getting mixed up between the PS30 Fairlady Z432 and the PS30-SB Fairlady Z432-R. It was only the 432-R which had the full-length, FRP 'under cover':

  3. Actually, they are lighter than stock....the calipers especially.
  4. Datsun Spirit does not make an exhaust. I don't want to speak for Eiji but in my many dealings with him his "speciality" is designing and building L series motors. Feel I should vouch for him also considering prior confusion of Spirit garage. Datsun Spirit is professional to deal with and a true Datsun enthusiast. Only does high quality work. I will be removing the Fujitsubo exhaust I am running on one of his 3 liter motors soon and installing Z story race sport set up. Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  5. I can spare a switch or two if none appear closer to home.
  6. Let me have a look Jim. (Home for lunch with little time at the moment.) I may have one that is beyond redemption--- save the switch.
  7. And where have you heard that Datsun Spirit does not have a great reputation? I've never heard anything but good things about Eiji's work, and I've never had any issues with what I bought from him.
  8. You see the bits that say "FOR CROSS FLOW" and "When using a cross-flow type of cylinder head...."? The 14004-N3120 MANIFOLD-EXHAUST is for the 'LY'/'Cross-flow' cylinder head. It was a Nissan Sports/Race Option part. It only fits the 'LY' 'head. Just as with the normal L-gata exhaust manifolds, the true 'Works' exhaust manifolds for the 'LY' heads were quite different from the 'Sports/Race Option' parts. Here's an example of a proper Works race exhaust manifold for an LY Crossflow engined Z: ....as you can see, it differs in shape and construction from the 14004-N3120 in the Sports/Race Option catalogue. That's the difference between 'Works' and 'Sports/Race Option'.
  9. Ok, so the words 'fatcory' and 'works' are to be avoided so as not to confuse - thanks. So where, please, does this manifold fit in the scheme of things which the Spots-Option header appears to emulate ? Noted in the catalogue, is this another or the same customer option part ?
  10. Thanks Chas! This is excellent quality products! My '75 280z fit perfect bolt location. I need clean the threads to remove paints...

i finally got it where it is supposed to be, and it fired right up. line up the marks as shown, turn the shaft a little clockwise?, then push it up in there. tighten one bolt finger tight and the take a look. it may take a few tries (you will be an expert shortly) but it will eventually go. very aggravating

I think I remember there being two marks on the pump or spindle that could be confused the last time I did this. Just keep turning the spindle and re-seating until it is right. It is not that difficult to do if you are off. One of the things to be careful with is to align the pump with its mounting holes in the timing plate well before you push the assembly home. If you insert then spin the pump to align its bolt holes you will turn the whole thing off. The other thing to watch for is the tang for the distributor. It is offset and makes a small semi circle and large semicircle when looked at on-end. The small semicircle should be on the front side when seated.
  14. He needs those brakes if he carries that wrench!
  15. Suspension back with Eibach Progressive springs and I am dry fitting my MK63 parts. I want to thank a member for his help with locating the needed parts for the caliper and rotor upgrade. I dry fitted the modified backing plates, calipers, and rotors tonight. It all goes together flawlessly. I like the way the modified backing plates fit to the MK63 calipers.
  16. One more tonight's upload, here is an interesting booklet," Nissan Fairlady-Z text book for sales man " issued Nov 1969. It contains many pictures which were not seen in other manuals. Interesting thing is " ...if a potential customer has a son, you must approach to his son , from our data many customers are admitting their son's opinion..." And funny cartoon ,also nice to see, I like it. Some pictures are very useful to confirm early parts, or prototype uniqueness. You see unusual carpet fasteners, rear deck jack handle mount, spare tire holders, tool box lid looked very simple and even the carpet around there it has fasteners. A emergency brake handle, looks like borrowed from other cars. Three combination gauges looked a little dull ,not straight. A rear gate supporting bracket attached to the rear gate, it has same shape as my Z432, but different from my other cars. An artificial interior picture, Mr.Matsuo told us Nissan had just bought a computer to print pictures which can make it in artificial effect. It took many ours, set before going home and done in the next morning . Kats PS. Do you know why only Japanese S30 has a rubber "C shape " cap at both side of rear side bumper ?
  17. We had our MARRS #1 race at Summit Point this weekend and went down Friday to bed in tires and brakes and to give the cars a general shakedown. I took my 72 240Z, John took his 72 240Z and Jeff took his 73 240Z. Friday went well until the third lap when I couldn't shift into fourth...or any gear and had to be towed back. The problem appeared to be with the clutch so I removed the exhaust, starter, clutch slave, driveshaft transmission and clutch. The flywheel was loose and the head of a flywheel bolt broke off was jamming the clutch. The flywheel wobble at 7400 RPM caused the metal from the flywheel to be transferred to back of the crank. I spent a couple hours or so slowly chipping off the metal. So much fun! I got everything back together and went out for the last session of the day. It was great for a few laps and then I felt a vibration and came in. We hooked up the trailer and loaded up the car to go home. But I'm not one to give up. I put the car on jack stands and removed everything again. The crank wasn't too bad this time. I grabbed a fresh flywheel and had Jeff and Steve (our crewman) work on it while I ate supper. We put the trans back in, bolted up the starter and driveshaft, hooked up the exhaust and bled the brakes. I didn't start it because I wanted the Loctite to set. Loaded up in the morning and headed to the track to qualify. Jeff Q'ed on the pole, I was 4th and John was 8th. The car seemed ok. We raced in the afternoon. The BMW starting 2nd damaged his car in another race so he was out. The Miata starting 3rd didn't show up so I got to start on outside pole next to Jeff. I got a good start but he was much faster and left the rest of us in his dust. I raced Mark Johnston in the 240SX all race long. We swapped positions a few times but I was ahead most of the time. I seemed to be stronger near the end and opened a small gap but on the last lap I hot traffic and he caught up. I had him beat coming out of the last turn. With about 100 yard to go I shifted into 4th and the throttle linkage popped off at the gas pedal. Mark flew by and beat me by .2 seconds. John had battery issued and DNF'ed Sunday was longer and less exciting. I started 3rd and finished 3rd. I followed Mark and Jeff for a lap but they were both much faster. John started 4th and after 2 laps I dropped him. His battery died a couple turns form the finish. Jeff won easily and I was 3rd. Here are some pics. Yellow is mine, blue is John's and white is Jeff's. The pic of the 4 of us is Steve, John, Jeff and me. Chuck
  18. Went to a local car show today. Over 400 cars and trucks, some pretty amazing vehicles. Only two classes for imports: pre-1970 & 1970 and later. I pulled a second place award behind a 2017 Holden Commodore (brand new car). I guess you could say we bracketed the class at the extreme ends. Extremely windy, temp in the low 80's, great show and lots of great company.

  20. I took the Z out to go visit a new karting track with some friends. One of the owners is Jim Downing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Downing). When my friends were riding on a golf cart around the track, Jim asked if I wanted to drive around the track. He didn't have to ask me twice. He took a lap at slow speed and then said, "I think we can go faster the next time around." Yeah, I had fun.
  21. Up and running after winter hibernation! Lovely day for this years first drive.
  22. You guys are "the best"....I love you all!
  23. I went with street pads.....not much of a problem on the front brakes, but the rear have a slight dusting. I have Wilwoods all the way around on the green 72.....front only on the white 70, the gold 71 and the silver 73. I never notice any dust from the front brakes at all. Super brakes, vented rotors and lots of area.....for normal street driving, stock brakes are fine if kept up, but the Wilwoods look and work so nice!
