Looks like you're having one of those "When it rains, it pours." times we all experience in life. Stay strong, stay focused, time is a good healer. Keep in touch on this forum. Dennis
  2. My Dad always told his friends " if at boys gotta go 100 foot, he's spinning 50 and slidin' 50" It's boring down here, I have scars all over my body but not in my head. I was a Le-wildass now I'm a sore Le-oldass.

Could be the alternator going bad. The varying and weak voltage are signs. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Who would ever imagine these fantastic critters could mean so much to us. I am wildlife biologist and work in the field alot doing surveys. For 12 yrs. my buddy Darby worked by my side. Last August I had to put him down due to kidney failure. This is my first year working alone without him. I sure miss him. 6. I did some reading on the air bypass. Yup, I concur with your explanation. New healthy carbs should not need them open at all. But what an ingenious thing to include on a carb to account for wear. I know for a fact my butterflies are set perfectly and I have a good idle and not even a hint of a transistion issue, but I have not checked for balance since I initially set them up. I may have a go to see how close they are now. The air bypass actually lowers the amount of vacuum signal seen on a flowmeter for those of you who are interested. So you take the highest side of each weber and lower it to the lowest side to ensure balance on both barrels. Then you have to match each carb to one another. Very simple and elegant. Love me some webers stuff. Just when you think you know all you need. More info keeps coming in.
  7. This works great. We bleed after every session on the track. Chuck
  8. Started back on the motor assembly now that I have the engine bolts plated. Installed the timing chain cover, oil pump, water pump and oil pan. Will send the valve cover out tomorrow for the bead blast. Once that is done, the motor should be looking pretty nice and about ready to install when the time comes.
  9. Wow you really appreciate the little things on the Datsun carbs and linkage. The MGB is very crude when compared and tricky to sync off-idle. In the end the owner was happy with the results and I had my first drive in an MGB convertible.
  10. Thank you very much for all the advice. This Z is 21200€ "as is". And 22500€ with those problems fixed. According to the seller, the engine has been rebuild and has 3500 miles on it (but without any invoice, it could be hard to prove it..
  11. they are stupid easy to work on as long as the bolts don't break. So far the hardest job for me was removing the heat shield. I hear that working on the rear suspension (control arm bushings and wheel bearings) can be a pain. all comes down to if things are seriously stuck. 1st things I did was fluids (use yellow metal safe oil in the trans), belts and hoses,T stat, water pump (well after it leaked),alt (after it shorted out), FI rubber hoses with correct clamps. the list goes on but you get the picture, mainly simple stuff that was done wrong (like wrong hoses and clamps on FI) normal maint, and electrical connections including new rubber boots to keep out moisture. Sensors on the T stat housing are often bad. Hopefully no one has monkeyed around with the AFM, it seems to be the go to thing anytime the FI is not working right.
  12. SWMBO is in Orlando this week, but no... I wasn't invited this time. We could have had a convoy from Orlando to Boca!
  13. I am so happy for him, almost want to intercept and escort it from Orlando to Boca
  14. I have no problem with anyone asking for the best price they can get on eBay. I just thought the whole purpose of offering here first was to allow those who contribute to the community the chance to get it first. As opposed to some random on eBay. Either way good luck with the sale and if you get a good price I hope it helps with your own projects.
  15. I didn't post it with the intention of being a smart arse, but I know when I say to a group that I'm offering an item somewhere first I usually give folks a couple of days to respond and if no response then I list on eBay or another place etc.. eBay just inflates prices (for potential buyers) and reduces profit (for seller). That's why I personally try to avoid it where possible. Would have been nice to list an asking price also. /Off soap box now.
  16. you have an adventure ahead of you.
