  1. For anyone who has looked at or bought the Recaro LX seats from ebay seller michikogoodproduct, this information about removing the headrests could come in handy: https://passionford.com/forum/ford-escort-rs-turbo/237664-remove-headrest-from-recaro-seats.html My order took the slow boat from Thailand to save shipping costs -- about 2 1/2 months -- but they arrived today and my first impression is very good. These are used Recaros that have been re-covered. Love the factory retro look -- the material and workmanship seem good quality. Still need the Wedge brackets to complete the install, but I'm freshly motivated! https://www.ebay.com/sch/michikogoodproduct/m.html?item=162904595739&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 https://www.mckrecaroseatscars.com/
  2. I too have an epoxy primer base, followed by the body filler, then a sealing coat of epoxy on top of that. The body shop recommended this as a way to prevent any off-gassing of the fillers through the top coat. I also am using the water based paints for top coat and so far I like them a lot! Very consistent and easy to work with.
  3. update. Replaced cargo carpet since old was trash. Got rid of 50lb of bumboxes , Amps, cables, power, equalizer etc. Installed regular after market AM/FM/CD refinished Valve cover in crackle black replaced "LOUD" muffler with a Turbo, which sounds fantastic but civilized. My local Z specialist did $$$$ of work. New Poly bushings all around. New shocks. new struts. new ball bearings, steering rack, new Radiator new Rad hoses, new Batt, replaced ALL rubber hoses (fuel, air, FI), etc. cleaned Fuel tank, Injectors, all fluids. Car drives like a dream. Love the straight SIX and the 5 Speed tranny. Pulls strong. Paint has flaws. Its a 10 footer. as far as style. I prefer the 2x2 body than the normal 2 seater Z. To me personally, the 2x2 has a more proportional shape with a nice rear end hanging past the rear axle. The 2 seater is beautifull sure, but it ends too abruptly for my taste. In addition, I can fold the 2 rear seats and lots of square footage back there for cargo. Very happy with this beautifull automobile. Got lots of "thumbs up" today.
  4. I looked at my 240Z prop shafts and that divot that Nissan took off of the yoke ears in interesting. I'll bet they used it to expose the cups so that they could clamp them down while staking. If you want some insurance for the clips, you could use one of the billion grades of gap-filling Loctite. Designed to lock bearing races down, which is what the cup is. Spendy but might be worth peace of mind. It could lock the clips on too, so they don't rotate and pop off. They have too many to know which might be best. http://na.henkel-adhesives.com/industrial/green-threadlockers-pre-assembled-wicking-13227.htm

Agreed. I know some people expect miracles from a car that is fully assembled and covered in dirt, and all at a bargain price. Your best price depends on how much you are willing to do yourself versus paying a shop to do.
  6. Who would place a head on its valves on concrete floor? Good Grief! Avoid this notorious seller. He abuses parts before he ships... guaranteed! Want a head with bent valves? Buy this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-240Z-260Z-280Z-ZX-Rebuilt-E88-Cylinder-Engine-Motor-Head-OEM-w-Warranty/152905724162?hash=item2399e43102:g:11AAAOSwHQ9WVe7D&vxp=mtr

I built a shop with paint booth designed into it so I could do my own (learning as I go). Having said that, it will still cost me close to $7000 for paint supplies, tools and repair materials. About another $6,000 to modify the shop for working on my restomod. I knew I would pay upwards of $15,000 - $20,000 for a total top and bottom paint job (after all repairs and body work) so doing it myself is saving a tonne. This is not for the faint of heart though, as it is all up to you as to how good the finished product will be. I also took a few body work and paint classes....
  9. This week I planned on painting the epoxy on the inside of all the panels, but I ended up getting side tracked by more panel beating and trying to fit a really dodgy wing.
  10. And look who it is! The notorious California-datsun Inc people in Rancho Cucamonga CA.
  11. Just curious.....did you check fuel bowl level with the clear tube method mentioned in earlier posts? Not sure why the need for new floats and valves if you haven't. Dennis

  13. Hi again. Cat arrived. Started right up and drove it home. Gave it a good wash. All functions apperational. Iddle started at 1,000 to 1,100 rpm and then dropped to 750 or so on its own after engine warmed up engine bay looks “ok”. I will replace all fluids first I really want to replace all carpets. Ripp off the old rag, inspect floors, maybe lay down some sound insulation and install a new carpet. Where do I go for a set of carpet front and back for a 1982 280 ZX? also springs and shocks are next. Ptobably all bushings too thanks
