Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
2 pointsThe catalog above was issued Jan 1972 , just after L24 engined “Fairlady-240Z series “ was released. I think it has been the same, everyone wants manual gear box for a sports car always. So I do not think the automatic transmission made a big demand . Did I introduce this car before ? This was on sale a several years ago, unbelievably stock , untouched condition with full of optional items such as a rare vinyl top , a factory air conditioning system, and the automatic transmission!! Also the red 110 is very rare, most of ZGs were chosen as maroon. Please note the color of the over fenders , the rear bumper, and the front bumper. They are all exactly new condition. And they are not completely same color. The rear bumper is a little bit darker, and a little bit glossy, that is correct. (Hub caps is strange in some pictures though) . Kats2 points

[2018] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
The week of the Mitty is always busy for me, and more so this year. Today I took the wheels to the tire shop to get the new BF Goodrich tires mounted so my car is ready for their display. The old tires were only 7 months old, so they are stored in the garage. While I was at it, I fixed some of the wiring at the headlights and replaced the LED headlights with a different type of LEDs. I just wasn't crazy about the row of LEDs in the old lights. I also found that the newer headlight rings on eBay that fit our cars will better accommodate the LED headlights. It's raining now, so adjusting the beams will come later.2 points

Weld through primer questions
1 pointYou can also use zinc rich primer instead of weld through primer. I've used it for years and had no problems welding through it. Plus, with the zinc, you get the protection from rust.1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointGavin , you may also want your HS30 10552 to resume FS5C71A more , as you are getting to realize it is rare more. There are only 634 or less “ HS30s with the FS5C71A “ with the NEW center console around the world ! And how many automatic transmission HS30s were there between HS30-10001 and 10634 ? As I see the Fairlady Z catalog , Nissan seemed to emphasize the automatic transmission. They wanted to make Zcar not only sports car but also easygoing car. Kats1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointI agree I love the look of the 71a box and I love the straight gearstick and how it sits in early S30Z's. Alan actually convinced me to go back to the 71A box in HS30 00150 and I just think it's nice to go back to the original feel and form of the car. There is Lou Mondello here in Australia (Melbourne) who specialises in the Fairlady Roadsters and as you know they had the same 71A box but different bellhousing. He can apparently rebuild them also and has access to parts.1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointThanks Alan , UK market is the same as the Australian market , I also checked the parts catalog for HLS30 except USA and Canada . The book says yes, the FS5C71B has the same part numbers for the gears starting from 2.906 . In Japan, the gear ratio was discontinued after September 1973. Never applied to S30 models again. I would say the ratio is not rare, it is rare only in Japan, after seeing Gavin and Alan posted above. I am also huge fan of FS5C71A , first of all, It has a look , things of beauty. I can spend hours just looking at the gear box. Japanese people tend to give up rebuilding the FS5C71A because they think no parts available , they do not know there are some nice parts vender in the US. However, Mr.Kawashima who did wonderful work for my two FS5C71A now became famous among not only S30 community, also GTR and SP/SR . Mr. Kawashima recently started to service for R192 diff , he managed sourcing some NLA shims and bearings from manufacturers in Japan. He even also made special tools for disassemble and assemble. https://www.vintagecraft-e-za.com/s30zのページ/日産旧車の駆動系レストア/r192デフ-その2/ Kats1 point

1972 Z Brake switch / valve
1 pointA hard pedal where you get immediate excessive braking at very distinct pedal point, has historically been commonly caused by the loss of the "reaction disk" in the booster. It's amazing how this thin little disk of rubber gives you the soft pedal and modulation control that utterly lost without it.1 point

Where to go with this rusthole
1 pointThat's a pair of engine stands I modified so they were vertical and sturdy! With a spreader bar in the middle at the bottom. Works great Sent from my SM-N950W using Tapatalk1 point

Stainless steel hard brake and fuel lines vs standard steel hard linesl
Absolutely......Really beautiful Z and NSX. I don’t know which one I like driving best. You’ll love the Datsun Spirit Stroker engine....really makes for a fun drive. Can’t wait to hear how you like the ITB’s too, Eiji really keeps up with all the performance goodies. We will be doing more head to head this Spring at Dinwiddie Drag Strip....we have a blast! If ever in Virginia, stop by. BTW the NSX made it’s way from Texas to Virginia.....another thing we have in common. Regards Guy1 point

1971 HLS30-14938 "Lily" build
1 pointSo I made some more progress today. Worked on finalizing fuel and brake lines. Plated parts during this time. Disassembled the proportioning valve and the brake circuit switch These are Fedhill lines. I flared all of these with an Eastwood flaring tool that was loaned to me by a generous car guy! I bent this in a multiple of ways. Hands and thumbs, the handle from the flaring tool, a piece of 1 1/2" pipe and this flaring tool shown below Thanks Rich for the excellent photo documentation! @motorman7 Can some one ID this maser for me? Also where does this bracket go? I am guessing it goes on this section of line near the differential mount. The Fedhill material shines up very easily with #0 steel wool. I then ragged it with some Eastwood satin Diamond Clear. We'll see how it ages... Here is the proportioning valve broken down. I believe this is the original one but can't confirm it. It has an E4100 tag on it. Car parts manual says it should be E4101 so I am not positive. It also has the dimple seal at the top of it. There is some corrosion on the bottom of the push rod. Don't know if this is gonna cause a problem or not????1 point

1971 HLS30-14938 "Lily" build
1 pointLights hung around the outside of the booth. Six vertical lights around Patched the floor rust with a piece from one of Charlie's excellent floor boards there was a big crease through the drivers side wheel well. I couldn't remove it so I made some patches from a Tabco panel... this was June of 2013..1 point
