  1. I took that pocket reinforcement a little farther with mine as I've always felt the front shock towers are a bit under supported.
  2. Remake the pocket the way it is now. That is where the crossmember mounts. IE front suspension and motor mounts. It is two layers of material. The inside layer is probably gone too. The reinforcing plates are thicker material than the engine bay sides Somebody else just made these recently @wheee! @grannyknot
  3. Which tech ? How does he class after-market headers ? Is there an 'official' rating system ? Frankly, after a certain price level, one might expect a gasket to be supplied with the header - no ?
  4. With the weather being great today, I took the Z to Road Atlanta to hang out with my friends as they get ready for the Mitty. My door latching problem resurfaced, so Rob Fuller from the Z Car Garage took a look at it for me. Despite his best efforts, the door lock finally gave up the ghost. I borrowed the rental vehicle and drove back to my house to steal parts from the 73 and did the lunch run for the crew on the return. From Rob's tutorial that he gave me earlier, I installed the replacement door lock and striker plate. The door closed perfectly flush on the first try. I was shocked. I just enjoyed the rest of the day hanging out with some great car guys. I didn't take many photos, but I did try shooting some ZCON promos with John Morton. Maybe you'll see them soon.

Charles, I can introduce you to Rob Fuller who owns the Z Car Garage (http://www.zcargarage.com) in San Jose. He's here working on the BRE car among others. You might be able to pick his brain. He loves 5 & dimes, too.

  9. Well I broke my exhaust manifold trying to remove a stud. So I think it's time for a header. Might as well match my fujitsubo exhaust. Darn. I wasn't ready for this decision. But might as well zinc the rest of the engine bay.
  10. Oh, and in the later speedos, the space available for a 100K digit is taken up by the wire that detects the ten mph threshold for things like the BCDD. Prior to 73 or so, there wasn't anything there, but after that, I don't think that space is as available as it was on the earlier units.
  11. Yup. They're all like that. Even through the ZX. I suspect they ported major portions of the design from an earlier application that didn't have a trip odometer and they didn't want to mess with the design, so they just left the tenths digit in there. And then they were worried about synchronization between the tenths digit of the trip odo and the tenths digit of the main odometer. They didn't want all the service calls asking "Why don't the two of them agree?"

  14. THe original air channels may be hard to find These days and probably quite expensive. but this is how my panelbeater repaired mine: Before (cheap patched up ugliness): and then:
  15. I got my heat shield back from https://www.performancecoatings.com/exhaust-coating I went with glacier black 2000 which is a dark ceramic black that’s good to 2000 degrees. Looks pretty awesome. I will probably do my header in it or another color.
