THIS A CONVERSATION BETWEEN A MAN AND HIS WIFE. PLEASE NOTE THAT SHE ASKS SEVEN QUESTIONS, WHICH HE ANSWERS QUITE SIMPLY. BUT THEN SHE IS SPEECHLESS AFTER ANSWERING ONLY ONE QUESTION FROM HIM WOMAN: DO YOU DRINK BEER? MAN: YES WOMAN HOW MANY BEERS A DAY? MAN: USUALLY ABOUT THREE WOMAN: HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY PER BEER? MAN: $5.00 WHICH INCLUDES A TIP WOMAN: AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DRINKING? MAN: ABOUT 20 YEARS, I SUPPOSE WOMAN: SO A BEER COSTS $5 AND YOU HAVE THREE BEERS A DAY WHICH PUTS YOUR SPENDING EACH MONTH AT $450. IN ONE YEAR, IT WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $5400 CORRECT? MAN: CORRECT WOMAN: IF IN 1 YEAR YOU SPEND $5400, NOT ACCOUNTING FOR INFLATION, THE PAST 20 YEARS PUTS YOUR SPENDING AT $108,000 CORRECT? MAN: CORRECT WOMAN: DO YOU KNOW THAT IF YOU DIDN’T DRINK SO MUCH BEER, THAT MONEY COULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN A STEP-UP INTEREST SAVINGS ACCOUNT AND AFTER ACCOUNTING FOR COMPOUND INTEREST FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS YOU COULD HAVE NOW BOUGHT AN AIRPLANE? MAN: DO YOU DRINK BEER? WOMAN: NO. MAN: WHERE IS YOUR AIRPLANE?

I've learned to never ever never asked a female when her baby's is due.
  3. I have many times! As long as I do the research and give him the part number he's happy to do it. Usually I get them the next day. He even made up an account for me so I'll get a discount, "Cliff's Auto". Nice guy that respects the work I've done to my Zs. I also carry him lunch on Saturdays when he's there by himself. I don't what will happen when he retires?
  4. The turn signals say 240, but those are clearly 280 bumpers!!
  5. I don't disagree totally, however, I find that the 280Z 's will be much harder to find in the coming years. Any attempts to save ANY of the S30's should be considered at this point....
  6. Similar experience here. David or Butch at the counter of Courtesy Nissan Parts understand the parts and know how to find them if they are at all available. Club discounts are standard, online prices are already fully discounted. I have parts shipped to the store at no cost, always a good reason to stop by for a friendly chat.
  7. For fun here’s proof of ‘car and driver’ weight loss. I’ve since gained a few lbs back . Dropped about 225 off car, dropped 45 off driver. 12/70 2.6 block E88 heads Mallory DCOE40 3/2 Twice pipes Tokico 1, 3/4 in sways, ext oil cooler
  8. Gotham, any reason you don't or cannot fix it yourself? learning how to use a mig is easy, they can be had for cheap, sheet metal is cheap and besides that...all you need is a hammer and an angle grinder. Start by exposing good metal with a flapper or a fiber disc, next draw a pattern to cut and chop it using a metal cutting blade. trim cardboard to the size of your cut, transfer it to sheet metal. if it needs to be curved...that is where the hammer comes in, once you trim/form the sheet to the hole ...line it up and tack it in place, continue stitching it 1 inch at a time to minimise distortion, work on one side then switch to the other. finish cleaning the welds with a flap wheel to perfection..apply seam sealer where needed. Even a novice welder (that cares) will do a better job then any commercial body shop (that don't). I'll bet you can get it all done for an total expense of about $500...including buying the mig (ok, using shielded wire, no gas) grinder, assorted wheels and sheet metal...unless you score a killer deal on a used mig setup. It's really easy once you get the hang of it....it doesn't take long to get to "getting the hang of it".
  9. Ordering Z parts from the parts guy behind the counter at a Nissan dealership can be an adventure. When's the last time you bought parts from your local dealer? Dennis

Happens every day, you have to watch and notice things like this happening. If I cant see the cars in front of the car I am behind, I adjust my distance to allow for exactly this situation (I should add that dumb humans are guilty of tail gating behind big trucks, no way they can see what ahead of them, just playing the odds with a life and death consequence, incredible stupidity). Just today there was all kinds of chaos on the road from big truck dropping shite, to earth moving equipment swinging big buckets around with workers on the side trying to warn drivers. All this goes into a thinking alert human brain and is processed against past experience to adapt to constantly changing situations. I don't really get why someone would want the current tech anyway, you have to stay constantly engaged according to the car maker then whats the point other than massive testing at your own expense. I still see tv commercials running where dumbfounded drivers are relieved that the car stops its self while they are looking around at bill boards, imagining cars made out of cardboard food boxes, and never do they show the 99% of the real distraction... wait for it... texting while driving. Why not just have for once an honest commercial showing the real reason for having this, so you can play with your phone and hope the car will save your arse.
  11. Kind of a thud at the end there. Filet Mignon, Ribeye, T-bone and then Sirloin.
  12. Got it today, Thank you Hardway. Dave
  13. No not driving. Figured that would be a bad idea! As for salt, I never drive in the winter or early spring. Too afraid of the salt!! My wife might object to me moving to a non-salty environment!! HA!
  14. Kind of odd. Is he calling it a "Fairlady" because of the mirrors? 1978 can't be "matching numbers" because Nissan stopped putting the engine serial number on the tag. 1978 with a 4 speed is unusual. He forgot to write about the rear discs. Here's the real reason. It's a consignment car. http://www.realmusclecar.com/inventory/?type=auto&order=date|DESC https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/?dealer_id=1080
  15. No "local" Nissan dealer in my town, the only new car dealerships are Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, and Hyundai. So, it's off to a neighboring town for Nissan parts. The older parts counter guy is great at ferreting out Z parts and part numbers and the younger guy could care less about old cars. They can usually get parts in just a couple days if in the system. Like with Cliff, the older parts guy gives me a discount, which is nice. Dennis
  16. I drove mine from Florida to Lexington Steam Corners to Santa Barbara and back. The best 6300 miles I ever spent!

Hi Moelk....Haven’t dropped it in yet. Brandon is supposed to come by this weekend to help me guide her in. Hope things are good in Sweden...you know I’ll be posting pics when we do get around to it. Some times you just get lazy. I replaced a leaky rear seal in another car this weekend, so I’m knocking out my to do list one at a time. After the engine install, I’m putting Eibachs and Tokikos in the white car. BTW Your car looks great. Guy

Years ago Kathy asked me the dreaded question. Do these pants make me look fat? I, of course, said "No". She then asked, "Are you saying that just to make me feel better?" My response was, "I would never say anything to you just to make you feel better." We both had a good laugh and the question of clothes hasn't come up since.
  20. Unfortunately, the door plate is the most valuable part of that car....
  21. I really would like to do it myself. My concern is I don’t have a garage (car is always covered in the driveway). Not sure what fire precautions I need to take welding in my driveway next to my house. I don’t have a ton of room I actually love love trying to do new things and I have been reading up on mig welding. Plus thI satisfaction of doing something yourself is amazing.
  22. Peanut 1 reporting for duty!
  23. Absolutely it's worth saving, I agree with the others, if you have it done by someone else it could get expensive but if you are willing to get filthy dirty you can learn to do it yourself and save lots of money, in the end you will have a solid car that you saved and I can tell you that first drive after putting it back on the road is a pretty wonderful feeling. Have a look through the archives, there are dozens of threads where someone just like yourself repaired extensive rust and brought their Z back to life, the peanut gallery here on this forum will talk you through the whole procedure.
