Found old Z pictures. I’ll start!

New (To Me lol) 240z and Advice Needed
I'm betting 905 Monte Carlo Red. Its an early car and probably worth more in a stock configuration, but it's your car. Nice find! No, you don't really need to do anything more other than get it rolling before you ship it. Probably air up the tires.2 points

country of origin of HLS30-00957
2 points@M3333hp - Hi Peter. Are you, or were you actually living in Nanoose Bay, on Vancouver Island, BC? If so you are the first person I had listed as owing #957. I doubt that you will be able to back-track the ownership of #957 clear to the original Sell Dealer for several reasons. As mentioned many States in the US did not have their Title and Registration systems fully on computers, and many that did, did not convert all that data to the latest software every time they changed Computer O/S and Application software - so as to maintain an ability to do a computer search back that far. Nonetheless - Many printed the information out - and converted that to Microfilm. Which many still have. Now however, due to the changes in US Privacy Laws - only Law Enforcement and/or Lawyers have access to the DMV records in most States. Still you wouldn’t have to go back to 1970. All you have to find, is any owner of that car that titled and registered it in the States. So lets say you owned the car for 3 years now - and the previous owner held it for 20 years after buying it from Oregon. 2018 minus 23 years is 1995. I’d bet that by 1980 Oregon DMV was completely automated and records back to that time should still be searchable… Might cost a few dollars for them to do the search.. So if you could get a Lawyer in Oregon - or a Private Investigator in Oregon to do a DMV VIN search - who knows HLS30 00957 might show up as having been registered there.2 points

New (To Me lol) 240z and Advice Needed
I am fortunate enough to have been gifted a Series 1 (1971 I think ) 240z. Without boring you with a novel, this car belongs to my Great Aunt who has been holding onto it since my Great Uncle died in the 1990s. He was the original owner, but towards the end of his life he was unable to enjoy the car so it sat for some time until he passed. Since then it has been sitting dormant in a barn on their property- probably for at least the past 25 years or so. She has wanted the car to go to a family member and informed me of its existence when I casually mentioned to her that I had bought a '76 280z a few months ago to restore. The 280z needs a TON of fab work and, quite frankly, I made the same mistake that most new Z owners do by biting off way more than I can chew or reasonably repair with my tools/skillsets. So, after asking her "ARE YOU SURE??" about a million times I told her that I would love to have it and that it would live on happily with me. ? From what I can see / what she has told me, the car was bought right around the end of '70 or '71. It has roughly 40k miles on the odometer and is an Automatic. I posted some pictures on r/Datsun over on Reddit and was told to post here since there's more knowledge and activity on this forum. So here's where I need help: I'm flying out to her place in the midwest to have the car put on a truck and sent to FL where I live. It currently does not run. Are there specific things that I should do to the car to get it ready to ship? It'll need to be put in neutral to roll and the rear drums may need to be freed, but outside of that, any advice you can offer would be appreciated. The shipping company I've contracted with will be putting it in an enclosed trailer for the ~1800 mile journey and has a winch to pull it if needed. I was also looking around online and came across a build/equipment list for chassis and engine/transmission combinations which says that Series 1 240s were only offered with an AT for a short period of time. Is that correct and does anyone know what months/years? That will help me narrow down the paint color between 905 and 110 since I don't have access to the car until I go get it. It'll also dictate more of what I do with the car. My original plan for the 280 I bought was a resto-mod with flares, t3 Suspension, and an engine swap. Since this thing looks to be in good condition and may be rarer than I thought- I may have to keep it as original as possible out of respect for the car. Thanks in advance. So anyway, here are some pics she sent me:1 point

New boxes
1 pointI got a new set of drawers for the shop last Friday. I bought these off an auction site. It's a Vidmar cabinet. They are stupid expensive. I was pleased I got them for a decent price. I already have them filled up. It did allow me to spread some tools out from my other tool boxes. It's like the shop, never big enough! I had to do some minor dolly work on some areas. I am going to build a big wooden top for these and use them as the table base. I'll remount my vise to one corner and mount the two grinders on the back edge of the new top1 point

whilst not a Z..... We lived in Japan in the 1970's here is a couple of photos of my mums car, I think it is a 1972 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-X (could be a 2000GT-R). Taken in 1975. It was a pretty zippy car, can remember mum flooring it a few times for fun.1 point

country of origin of HLS30-00957
1 pointM333hp: Good luck with finding information as to where the car first landed. I would think that if you got the original engine with the car there are enough parts on it to say whether or no it is a HLS30UV or an HLS30UN. To me that would be enough of a answer as to looking south of the border or here for paper work. As well as which way to restore it.1 point

New (To Me lol) 240z and Advice Needed
That's a good call. Hopefully, the drums are not fully seized. The 280z that I bought was outdoors for the past few years and was filled with broken snake eggs. I didn't think anything of it until I heard my wife screaming because a 4" corn snake had managed to leave the car and get into our dining room after a few weeks of living in the garage.1 point

Misfiring while cruising
1 pointA big improvement. No more fouled #4. I don't have an answer to why #s 2, 5, &6 have a slight rusty color on them. I wouldn't worry about it for now. Does anyone have a guess? I'd drive it for a while and check them again.1 point

Since you asked for old photos, here are some pix I just posted in the 1974 Fun Run thread. The last photo shows about 20 S30s. I wonder if we will ever see that many unmodified Zs together again...1 point

1974 Datsun 260z
1 pointhahaha.. LMAO Reminds me the time an celebrating HONDA dealer had the new Prelude for sale, it was the one with everything on it, the most powerfull type.. the director/salesman hassitated to let someone drive it.. he came to me (this was in the '90's ) and he said: you drive a sportscar, i need someone to drive that car, you don't have to be buying.. just that people see this car on the road.. now, i did and just before a roundaboud there was a road to the right.. i took that one very fast and he ( the salesman)... sitting in the pass.seat.. was breaking very hard.. Hahaha he thought i was going for the roundabout, then my speed would indeed be a bit high! we laughed it off later.. And on topic... zedhead, you can also see the way the windscreenwiper is placed that this is a LHD car.. still laughing about those passenger brakes haha.. he was stamping at nothing..1 point

Project Boondoggle (or, so I went and bought a Z!)
Another productive day of painting; finally in the home stretch. I got the fenders, doors, and the top of the hood and hatch done today. I think I did a better job overall on the shell than I did on these pieces, which I wouldn't have expected. I could never get a nice flat coat on the hood, and something weird happened on one spot on the top of a fender. But I did a respectable job on all my body work (phew!) and I'm planning to do a cut and buff on everything anyway, so I think it'll look good once fixed. All that's left to paint now is the cowl, inspection panels, gas cover, and the bottom of the hood and hatch. And an outside shot of the shell to show the color. This is pretty true to life. I maybe should have gone just a little bit darker and a little less saturated, but I like it.1 point

HLS30-00456 Up for Auction on eBay
Send it to the dippers and see what's left when it comes out of the tank, I wouldn't want to be the guy that has to repair that body.1 point

280Z High Beam Switch Repair
1 pointI finished the work on the headlamps, and I think they are brighter now. I cleaned (de-oxidized with DeOxit 100) the large C-9 connector by the junction box, and the connectors for the beam switch, and the multi-pin connector- both underneath the steering column. They had showed some black stuff on the plastic around the (round) pins, which I think might be from some overheating. But after de-oxidizing, thee pins were brighter, so they should not get so hot. Here is a photo of the C-9 connector, highlighted in yellow.1 point

Found old Z pictures. I’ll start!
This one is interesting because it also shows the cinematic staying power of the first X-Rated movie with a plot. The movie came out in 1972. That’s either ‘74 260Z or a ‘75-‘76 280Z up ahead and right. (I had to google it, not really a porn expert)1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointAgain thank you everyone, Mr . Kawashima will be so happy when he see these comments . The reason why I took off the #1 FS5C71A just after a few thousand kilometers, was I wanted to have rotations between these two perfectly rebuilt 71A . And also me and Mr. Kawashima both were curious about how the big two nuts stay after a couple thousand kilometers usage. We will check it again in next few thousand kilometers. Also I want to see how the synchros are getting worned out . Gavin , I would love to ! You can visit me anytime and you have to determine what is the Z432 and what is the 240ZG , also the automatic Z with A/C and the 4speed with 3.364 Z by driving them in your hand . All of my cars are daily driver , you can test the wiper and the rear glass defroster in a heavy rain , and see the how “ parking lights “ and “ passing lights “ work at night .The aerial mast and the 8 track FM pack make you feel good . I wish I could open a cafe with Zs , for everyone who wants to see and feel the original Zs just like back in 70’s . Kats1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointFS5C71A has big two nuts for securing the fifth gear , this design is a cause of common trouble of surging the gear and the hub by the big two nuts become loose. Mr . Kawashima has been rebuilding so many Nissan transmissions , he puts a single big nut with special securing method for the fifth gear of FS5C71A If customers want it . Also he recommends using a 71B upgraded folks , double sealing for the control lever etc . He offers me FS5C71A with all the Warner synchro modification, I think it will be very nice but , I just like the original at the moment. Kats1 point
