  1. If the wing was to be minimized, the canards and ground effects made more subtle and the ride height brought back to reality.... this would be a winner in the sales department. Even a Singer style interior would be a hit I think!
  2. I guess you will like this one. Btw those are two German Fairladys including old german style plates and euro spec airdam. Oh and she likes horses too:

Man...... That's too bad. Maybe you can pull a Radar O'Reilly?
  5. Well gents it’s finally time to move the Z from Memphis to North Carolina. I’ll now have more access to it so I can really start getting this restoration going. Again I appreciate all the help up to this point it was great to be able to drive it up onto the car transport. I’ll be on the road all day today headed through Birmingham, Atlanta, Florence and then North Carolina
  6. Nissan needs input from the folks at Jaguar who designed the current F-Type. Now there's a design that picks up on all the design cues that (with some basic changes for branding like headlight scoops) could have carried the spirit of the 240Z into the present market, US and worldwide.

  8. Just came across this one a couple of months ago. This was my grandfather's car, the one that gave me the bug. He bought it when he moved to southern California in the late 70s. He would let me drive it when I went down there to visit, would even give me tips on the best roads to hit up in the hills for the most fun. He would always tell me "don't be afraid to open it up, but just make sure you have it pointed in a direction where you have someplace to go".
  9. I must have been 5 or 6. Dads 73.

I got a new set of drawers for the shop last Friday. I bought these off an auction site. It's a Vidmar cabinet. They are stupid expensive. I was pleased I got them for a decent price. I already have them filled up. It did allow me to spread some tools out from my other tool boxes. It's like the shop, never big enough! I had to do some minor dolly work on some areas. I am going to build a big wooden top for these and use them as the table base. I'll remount my vise to one corner and mount the two grinders on the back edge of the new top
  11. Offering one of my restored steering wheels. This time it's a series one. I also have non series one wheels available. $432 on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/332874874041 Thanks, Dave
  12. 4 more hours. Tow going well.
  13. Is the sign upside down so it reads right side up in "Cast Away"?

I'm eating dinner with an engine builder tonight. Fire, fuel then air.
  15. 1 point
Well, to tell the whole truth, I traded mine to my engine builder for services rendered. Errr, better re-phrase that around THIS crowd.
  16. Here are some old black and white photos. The last picture has an interesting story about a former Boeing engineer in Washington state. Here's the link:
  17. As far as the shift lever noise goes, try removing the shift knob and see if it still does it. This has been discussed here before. Someone else will chime in about the brake noise. Cheers, Mike
  18. Just realized I never posted pics of Derek's speaker pods installed on my 280Z with the Polk Audio 5.25" speakers. The sound in my car is outstanding and the new front speaker placement balances my system very nicely.
  19. Bruce, there are some things I leave to the professionals and welding is in that list. Be careful. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Darn these ethics and values...!
  21. Cliff, I needed to avoid those mountains. They would have smoked my tranny. Already hit 183 degrees on the small hills near Talladega.
  22. Haha!! Glad to hear your drive home from Zcon was less whiplashy than the trip there. For those of you who weren't at Zcon and haven't heard any of the stories... Once you got @wal280z's car up to cruising RPM, it had two throttle positions: 1) Accelerating, and 2) Face through the windshield There was no in-between. Digital. So there is clearly a couple issues going on that made it very uncomfortable to drive. (As a side note, I'm thinking it's something like high intake vacuum from a freshly rebuilt strong engine and a BCDD that is not working at all.) But it wasn't the time or place to fix the real root problem(s), but as a bush fix, we disconnected the TPS connector. That way the ECU would not know that the pedal was in the idle position and would not trigger the fuel cut. It was a successful Band-Aid that made the car a lot easier to drive. Didn't fix the problem, but at least masked it enough to make the car a lot easier to drive. So, Wayne... I'd be happy to help you with a cable conversion, but you've got other things you need to work out as well! Of course, I'm touting my throttle body conversion in conjunction with the cable. With the two of them, my car is the smoothest ever. I wish I had it with me in Atlanta so you could have given it a try!
  23. So in preparation of this trip and I installed an external transmission cooler on my 4runner and then I downloaded an app called OBD Fusion and bought an ODB2 reader and seems to be working great. I was worried about my transmission temperature because my load is just at my limit of 5000 pounds. Check out my readings.
  24. Have a safe trip John. Best of luck refreshing that 77 beauty!
  25. @dmorales-bello, yes that new Jag is quite pretty mostly because they resisted the trend of adding fake scoops, ducts and wings that is so popular these days. Mind you Jaguars target market is probably older, well off guys that lusted after the E-type when they where kids, where as Nissans Z market is much younger, maybe looking for a bit more flash. @wheee!, We should start a petition! That white Z would make a great modern edition. Maybe loose the rear wing and put in a Porsche type retractable spoiler.
  26. Say it isn't so.... I see what is on my 'to do list' for tomorrow. @Captain Obvious - trade you some HVAC parts for some brackets. No plating necessary. ? Oh, the good news, she wasn't the 'bucking bronco' on the drive back.... Smooth as silk. But, I did hear a troublesome 'clunk' on a right hand ramp. Will bring it to the DIY garage on Sunday to investigate.
  27. The sad thing is you might be right, even after the 40th badging on them in 2010...

Yes, they are stupid expensive. Congrats on getting them. Every one of these I have obtained (used) needed dolly work. At least you didn't have to mess with the latching drawers or key lock. What a PITA!
  29. Those "American Picker" guys would crap their pants if they found one of those. Toy car, two of their favorite things all in one.
  30. Epilogue: So the car is now officially sold to a local collector. Fortunately I had plenty of time to make the decision and am pretty happy with how things turned out. I was a little surprised by the response and interest in the car, more than I was expecting. I could have stayed with BAT and possibly eeked out a few thousand more, but I felt much better selling the car to an individual that I had met and had a similar mindset about the car as myself. The seller plans to keep the car stock, drive it, and take it to some of the local shows. Already it looks like he has registered the car for the La Jolla Concours which is one of my favorite shows. So, I am glad the car will be in the area and look forward to seeing it with the new owner in the future. OK, now back to work on my other projects.
  31. Yes, it's been posted both here and on HybridZ by a member who owns it.
  32. You did make TWO sets of these, yes? You KNOW I need this, yes? ???
  33. This is where I get accosted by 60+ year old folks at a gas station or in traffic who say "I used to have one of those" or "My friends Dad drove one". Great to see a gathering of S30s like that.
  34. I believe a lot of this is misunderstanding and the limitations of communicating through a forum. I dont think zed head is trying to impugn or injure anyone but for all I know he got taken by someone on the internet and is a little suspicious now. We have also occasionally had discussions on altering vins in the past and some people are more ok with that then others. As these cars become more valuable and the production history is so hit or miss it may become a bigger problem. History has shown zed head to always be available to help solve problems. By the way I'm not paranoid if everyone's really out to get me. ?
  35. Great! It will be a fun trip. We are looking at visiting Tokyo and possibly taking the trains to visit other cities during the journey. Kats tells me that Kyoto is very good. I've already been to both Tokyo and Osaka in the past, but, this time we will be doing some sightseeing. Not sure if Tokyo Disney is an option (or even worth the hassle) but we are definitely open for other ideas. I would really like to see Mt Fuji from the ground. We flew over it on our way to China earlier this year and it's an amazing mountain!
  36. The oil helps control fuel metering but the car should run oil or not. Check the float needles and the inlet screens for trash. If you fill the float bowls manually (through the vent port) will the car run for a little while?
  37. First off, thanks for everyone's input, it all helps. Now to catch up to where I'm at now.... I did order the XTR flywheel from ebay (claimed to be 15lbs.), very nice quality piece. I also ordered an Exedy clutch kit (again from ebay) for the 75-83z 2+2 non turbo, 240mm contact surface. I received both and, the clutch/pressure plate fit perfectly on the RB26 flywheel. But while I was fondling the beautiful flywheel.....feels a little light to me. And it is, weighing in at 9.5-9-6lbs. That's even lighter than the 11lb. Fadenza I wasn't comfortable going with in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I know some of you have been running 10-11lbs. for years and seem to love them. I just felt better at 15lbs, so that's the way I went (or tried to go). Have been in contact with Godzilla Raceworks and he informed me that the spacers for the RB26 flywheels are coming in a little sooner then he expected, like only a week or so out. And he sells the spacer with a 13lb RB26 Chrome-Molybdenum Steel flywheel for $200 (don't quote me on price, just check out the website). So, I'm trying to return the XTR that I got (i know i'm probably being a jackass and overthinking this) and go with the spacer/flywheel kit from Godzilla. How ever you look at it, I really don't think you can put a lightweight flywheel in an S30 for less than $200. (ok, the xtr i got from ebay was like $165, but you still need the spacer from Godzilla (40)to make it work so i figure might as well just place one order).
  38. I'm not sure I'd do a picnic at my local pick and pull! They're scavengers like me. I lock my doors on my pick up for sure. They'd sale parts of my drive up!
  39. Gotcha. So when you go back, pull off the brake master cylinder first. Easy-peasy and no flight suit required. Easy job up in the engine compartment. Once the M/C is off, take a look at the area where the master bolts to the booster... If it's clean and dry inside and not wet with brake fluid, then we're a GO. If it's all rusty and paint a-peelin from brake fluid, then just leave it. But if it is clean and dry, then the rest of the work is done down by the pedals. One pin with retaining clip, and four nuts. I've been able to reach all that stuff kneeling outside the car. I haven't had to resort to laying down face-up on the car floor. Not that bad. A bad day at the junkyard beats a good day at work. And much thanks if you grab one for me!!

I have lots of Vidmar cabinets at work that are unused or under used. The problem is the military won’t/can’t sell them to us so they get crushed or scrapped for metal recycling. Everyone is afraid of what to do with the money from selling them, or worse yet giving them away! Public funds create administrative nightmares. In the end, they sit around till they are decommissioned and crushed. Very sad. We do have a lot of serviceable ones that we use daily though! Love em.
