3 pointsCliff, on behalf of the Vets in the group, I thank you for the recognition. It hasn't always been that way. Although I helped keep the world safe from Communism during my 20 year Air Force career last century, I still know some folks who could stuff you in a plastic barrel and send you to Turkey. 2 pointsThanks for the thoughts Site, we appreciate it. I also like to pass my thanks to the spouses of serving members. They put up with a lot from us and often suffer more from lack of information while we are deployed than anyone knows. They know we are in danger, yet don’t hear from us for weeks at a time or more. Here’s to them too!2 points

1 pointI never understood why a person would go through the trouble of painting a car but they wouldn't bother removing the nuts from the front strut towers. instead they paint over them.1 point

Time to cut and buff my new paint! Product suggestions?
I used the Meguire's Mirror Glaze 1, 2 and 3. Fairly economical with good results. Sent from my rotary phone using Classic Zcar Club mobile1 point

Time to cut and buff my new paint! Product suggestions?
YES! I keep going back, thinking it'll make sense, but...nope. At least I've determined that I shouldn't go with their microfiber system (it's designed with harder OEM paints in mind), so that helps narrow things down. Fortunately, I also have a Finishmaster here in town, so I'll check them out. Like painting, YouTube's been a great resource for techniques and tips like buff away from edges, but it's mostly useless for product information. that isn't just companies hawking their wares.1 point

Who makes the best repair panels
1 pointI suspect that pretty much all of these parts are made by one vendor and retailed through multiple sources. The market demand isn't that large IE: all of the rear valances are stamped on the same line, all of the hoods are made on the same line, etc.1 point

1976 280Z Restoration Project
1 pointTook the EZ strip wheels to the hatch and finished it up tonight. Some light sanding to do, a little oil can removal, and then primer. Started cleaning up the old passenger fender. Spent the night removing the undercoating from the inside of the panel. Hopefully this is the very last of the undercoating!!!1 point

Roof joints
1 pointSorry for the late reply. The late John Coffey and I had several conversations regarding why the "C" pillar develops a crack with the leading reasons being (in no particular order): Age of the vehicle Usage (rough roads, track or autocross, etc.) Prior damage Addition of a full cage Addition of continuously seam welded BDP frame rails As Matsuo San stated the leaded connection between the rear quarter panel and the roof ( C-pillar) was done to ensure if anything cracked it would be this and not the windshield connection. Picture in your mind a failed A-pillar causing the windshield to fall back into the driver and passenger or fly off and crash into another vehicle. I can only imagine that these were considered along with the number of lawsuits Americans file each year and they decided to just lead that joint instead since Mr. K was very much against a different style door window trim design. He went on to say that under normal driving conditions it should not crack but then turned and gestured towards me and said "unless you drive like John". People install our frame rails for any number of reasons but I suspect that most do so because they have increased the HP/torque in a 40 to 48 year old unibody made to house a 150HP engine.1 point

Duffy's 1/71 Series 1 240z build
1 pointFinally found some series 1 wheel chocks. I sent off for around 30 yellow powder samples. I decided on 02 VETTE YELLOW by Prismatic powders. It was close, just slightly brighter, I think when new this would have been almost identical. First picture was taken indoors under terrible lighting. This finishes off my series 1 tool kit.1 point

Rust Advice 78 280z
1 pointYes I do have their premium 2.5" exhaust. It works great with the header but on the lower 240 with 15" wheels and tires it scrapes coming in and out of my garage. The straight pipe connects to the bent one with those bolt together flanges, that's what barely scrapes. My local muffler guy said he could cut and weld them together for more clearance. I've learned to keep it from scraping until I build up some disposable cash for that small job. My 280 with 16" wheels and tires has plenty of clearance but it rides with stock springs and struts.1 point

50th Anniversary Edition Thread
1 point@dmorales-bello, yes that new Jag is quite pretty mostly because they resisted the trend of adding fake scoops, ducts and wings that is so popular these days. Mind you Jaguars target market is probably older, well off guys that lusted after the E-type when they where kids, where as Nissans Z market is much younger, maybe looking for a bit more flash. @wheee!, We should start a petition! That white Z would make a great modern edition. Maybe loose the rear wing and put in a Porsche type retractable spoiler.1 point
