Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
3 pointsI am waiting for getting a set of racing cam “8L “ and adjustable cam sprockets which were also used in racing cars from my friend . I won’t be able to come by titanium valves , special springs etc , so looks like I am done , I am satisfied at this moment. I just hope my spare engine project going well , I don’t race , I will be happy if the engine is just running. I set the goal , build the spare S20 engine like someone who race but not enough money to buy complete set of racing parts . I will tell you later my feelings when I run the engine. Partial racing parts installed ! Kats3 points

Earliest 4 Blade Nylon Engine Fans
2 pointsYou might describe it as 'evolution', but it's a bit more jumbled up than that. And I would tend to look at other contemporary L-gata equipped models for clues too. Looking only at Zs is very likely to miss some clues... Put simply, I see models with aircon needing multi-blade fans. Factory parts lists show simpler fans for non-aircon models vs multi blade for aircon and - possibly - hotter climate. The one tends to go with the other. I would imagine the multi-blade nylon fans as being easier to make/cheaper than the multi-blade steel fans once the tooling had been manufactured.2 points

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
2 pointsA set of parts , and Z432-R racing manual. It is said that STD pistons are casting made , on the other hand racing pistons are forging made . Even this page doesn’t mention about titanium conn rods , it is the sign of “ titanium conn rods are specifically made for factory racing “ isn’t it ? Kats2 points

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
2 pointsHi , I have got a set of high compression pistons and , titanium conn rods . They are meant to be used in a racing car ( GTR or Z432-R), factory team or private racer . I try not to expect too much , but I think these parts in front of me are real period correct parts which related to either Nissan Murayama , Oppama , Omori racing factory. From early 1969 to mid 1972 , those factories were very busy every day for developing racing S20 engines . Engineers and craftsman tried so hard making new cams , pistons , etc , testing them , and installing them in racing cars .Even heads as well as blocks , almost each race has new parts . Some parts were the same which were sold as sports option in a catalog , but many of them were not listed in a catalog , factory or some private racer only . This titanium Conn rod is the one , not on a catalog but used in racing. This piston is the same , looks slightly different from others . Alan , could you authenticate these parts ? And please tell us more about racing back in those old days. The titanium conn rod is 474 gram , the std conn rod is 710 gram , I have heard titanium is lighter than steel , it is about 2/3 . So , looks like I have got a correct one ! Kats2 points

Picked up a couple of hard to find parts recently
Yes they can be clear coated and a few guys have done that. I chose not to go that route for fear of any clear coatings having problems with long term adhesion, clear coat cracking issues and or just physical damage. In which case it would have to be stripped off and I wasn’t sure that could be done without damage to the wheels. That decision was made however before I knew how many hours of constant polishing would be required to keep them “old school”… One friend solved the problem by having two complete sets of tires/wheels. For show he uses the original LeMans wheels - but after the show he puts them in "Space Bags” which are drawn down into a partial vacuum and stored. Replaced with aluminum racing wheels for actual road/track use and just storage of the car. Magnesium wheels polished to a high luster are really beautiful - they look like polished nickel. I have to admit that as much as I complain about the necessary time and effort - I do actually love seeing the results of that effort materialize before my eyes. So I guess the cost of beauty in this case is time and effort. I just think everyone should know going in - the cost of owning and maintaining 50 year old magnesium wheels is far more than their initial purchase price.1 point

[2019] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
After washing the 260Z on Saturday and going to a Georgia Z Club dinner, Wendy and I hopped into the car again today to go to a wine and cheese event at a friend's warehouse. It's always a good day when I get to drive the Z. Of course, visiting the warehouse has me looking forward to Mitty week 2019 at Road Atlanta.1 point

Early Radio Blanking Plate/Storage Shelf and antenna plug
Does anyone have details on early Z's with no factory radio? There seems to be a storage bin in its place. Do flat blanking plates also exist as well? Also, are there any details of the antenna hole plug? @kats1 point

1 pointNo power steering might be a game changer for Ms Jeff taking the keys. It's not a problem when driving but turning from a full stop requires some upper body strength. Combine that with a hot day and no A/C and you've got a free gym membership. It always surprises people. ??1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointYou got them! Well done! I think it is most likely that they are indeed genuine Murayama factory works team parts, never intended to be sold to the general public. Original cost of production would have been very high, but not a problem for a works team. Compression ratio might be a problem for a street car. They are very high intrusion crown pistons and compression ratio would have been very high on the works cars. You will need to work it out with a dummy build.1 point

Crème Brûlée with your Sushi?
1 pointI just got a new Car and Driver mag, there's an article about driving a 2018 Alpine A110 (mid-engine, RWD, 2 passenger coupe) in the French Alps. A paragraph at the end caught my eye - see if you get the same chuckle as I did. " While the A110 almost certainly won't be sold in the U.S., we can at least fantasize that it could. Europe's crash and emissions standards are close enough to ours these days to mean a federally compliant version could be possible. Distribution would be more of a challenge, but Alpine is technically a separate brand from Renault. It could sell the A110 out of the back of a few well-chosen Nissan franchises - or just go ahead and put Z badges on it..."1 point
