  1. Hi all, just wanted to post some status of my trip to Japan. I was able to meet @kats and we took a drive in his Fairlady Z432. Man what a great car! It’s in great shape and Kats knows how to take car of his cars. We met in Kyoto as I arrived, with my family, to our hotel. Kats lives about 30 minutes away from Kyoto and drove the car up just to visit with me. He has 4 Z’s and asked me which one I wanted to see (and drive). Since I’ve never seen a Z432, it was an obvious choice. We spent about 20-30 minutes ogling the car before he let me drive it around the block. I don’t have an international drivers license, so he took the controls and we went for an extended drive around the city. I’ll post more about my observations when I am able to sit down at a computer, but I wanted to share a few pics. What a great time, and I wanted to personally thank Kats for taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with me. As you can see, it’s springtime in japan and the cherry blossoms are in full effect!
  2. View Advert 1970-72 240Z Steering Column Clamshell Set This is a 98% concours-quality steering column clamshell set for a 1970-72 240Z, Nissan P/N 48470E4601. The tiny pins that locate the two halves are undamaged and intact. The parts are not warped and fit together perfectly. There is a slight abrasion on the top section where it fits under the speedometer (fourth picture), not visible when installed. There are a couple of slight marks on the lower section near the ignition switch, likely from a key - the marks are difficult to see. The fasteners are not included. This item may also fit the ’73 240Z but the parts catalog shows a superseded P/N for that year. The price is $100 and includes standard domestic shipping, international shipping available at actual cost. Payment via PayPal, PM if interested. Thanks. 3. The car sold for $68,000.00!
  4. Yep, shes got a mechanical fuel pump aperture. Some pipes i found in the shed.
  5. Could you give us more detail on how you cleaned up the electrical harness? Did you rewrap, rewire, etc., etc. Also, can you tell us where you bought the parts (connectors, tape, wire, etc.?). Thank you.
  6. Good guess. Believe me, I was very tempted to do that and then wrap the boot with tape, but that never turns out well. Eventually the tape gives way and the split shows. So, to get the boot on, I was able to slide the blue connector and the white connector through the boot by turning them sideways and sliding/pushing them through. I also applied a little heat with a hair dryer to make the rubber a bit more pliable during this operation. At this point, the number of wires now passing through the boot will not let the other large connectors fit through the hole. So, next I put all the smaller connector wires through the boot which left just the large black connector and large green connector remaining. At this point, starting with the black connector, I removed each wired terminal from the connector housing and passed the wire through the boot, then re-inserted each wire terminal back into the connector housing. I did this for all the wires starting with the black connector then finishing up with the green. the last few wires of the green connector were pretty snug passing through the boot, but eventually I got them all through. Such a pain, but much better than cutting the boot. I know, It looks so much better with the black. There is also some small writing in gold on the wires but I will rotate the wires so they are on the underside and not highly visible. Thanks!
  7. I agree, I think the car in the service manual was HLS30-00001, 2 , 3 or an earlier pre-production chassis. (#4 &#5 were the test cars sent to North America in early Oct 1969) Photos of HLS30-00013 did not have these unique parts shown in the service manual. It is still fun finding these small changes ?
  8. I agree. A lot of lead-time needed for the production of the manuals and literature on these cars, and I see a few Skyline, Cedric, Gloria, Laurel and assorted 4-cylinder type parts used on the (likely pre-production/not to be sold) cars and details in the photos. Not surprising.
  9. Got the electrical harness cleaned up and replaced most of the connectors. Got the new elec harness firewall boot on. You will never guess how I got the boot on (there is a hint in the picture). All those large connectors have to fit through that 1 inch diameter hole. You can't slide it over from the opposite side because there is a very large connector near the voltage regulator. Will post details on that tomorrow. Car is a bit dusty in the pics. Got the vent air ducts and braided hoses in from Jay at jdm-car-parts.com. They look awesome as always. Now to look for some wire clamps on ebay. Got the heater housing cleaned and painted and installed that along with the fan. Also got the bottom seat frame back from the powder coater. Will post pics of those later.
  10. The P90 should already have the hole for a mechanical pump, it's covered by a bolt-in blanking plate. Now is a good time to install a 10lb flywheel, you won't regret it. ?
  11. 1 point
while watching the nbc nightly news tonite, I noticed there was a red 280z under a pile of ruble. I hope iveryone is safe that's the main concern. first thing I thought was it a member's and is he ok.
  12. @kats@mikeb@26th-Z@HS30-H ~aug-sept 1969 had different fuel pump fittings (source: L24 engine manual) ~aug-sept 69 had different fuel rail: send and return connected at dual port banjo rather than in rail. (source:engine manual)
  13. Got the radiator re-cored with a heavy duty 3-row core. Installed radiator, fan clutch and fan. Also cleaned up fuel pump and installed that. I am picking up the hatch tomorrow, so figured I would put in the hatch weather stripping. My favorite part of dointg the weather stripping is peeling the glue off of my fingers afterwards....very entertaining. Ordered the engine compartment braided hoses from Jay at jdm-car-parts.com. Those should arrive in the next day or two. Also cleaned up the electrical harness. Will install that once I get the new harness firewall boot.
  14. I’ll write up something when I get back. Doing all of this by mobile phone right now and it’s not so easy to write a novel. Haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Got two of the Bridgestones mounted, 175/80R14's. That's pretty hard to find.
  16. I still need to sort out linkage, fuel rail, and initial jetting.
