  1. I got my Kia motor from RockAuto and installed it last fall. Used a metal nibler to make it fit. Got it all hooked up with the factory connector and turned it on. The new motor made some noise but didn't make much difference in air flow. Did some testing and determined it was spinning the wrong direction. Swapped the pins in the connector and tried it again. Tons of air blowing after that. If anyone does the upgrade and doesn't notice a difference try swapping the pos / neg that feed the motor.
  2. Good grief Frankios, even across the pond you can't leave it alone can you. Why not celebrate what was the UK's biggest collection of S30 and 14 Samuri on display, rather than your usual derogatory nonsense. The weekend was amazing and why not just repeat what Mike the administrator said on here "Awesome, thanks for sharing!! IMG_5576.MOV
  3. be boating. We were put on this planet to extract the oil contaminating the earth's crust, and burn it. Each oil well in the world is, in essence, a mechanical zit popper. We can't stop until it's all gone. Cars, boats and planes, (and trains) are just ways to have fun while we accomplish our mission. Just a thought.
  4. A good buddy @chaseincats put me onto this upgrade last year, he originally found it over on HybridZ. The replacement motor and fan comes from one of our favorite donor cars - a '99 Kia Sportage. He pulled one from a salvage car and installed it into his 280Z. Yes, the housing needs a 1/16th trim all around the opening but that is the only mod. His electrical plug was a direct fit. For my 240Z, the OE motor is hardwired with a spade and bullet fitting. Another buddy recently did the same upgrade for his '72 resto project and he put together a jumper for me with the correct plug for the motor and the spade and bullet for my harness. Grinding out the housing with everything still in the car is a bit of a PITA (I'm getting too old for this crawling around!), but everything came together well. The new fan puts out lots of air and is super quiet. A new motor with fan is available at Rockauto for $35 if you not inclined to hit a salvage yard, as in my case.
  5. Search "Quick and dirty SU tuning". @240260280 put it together. As Zed Head stated above, start with a thorough tune-up using 240260280's method to eliminate the obvious. Not you @Captain Obvious we could never replace you.
  6. Progress. You can either fight it or sit back and enjoy it. Big changes are coming in personal transportation, just as they did about 120 years ago when automobiles began to replace horses. I can imagine my great-great-grandfather Chapman, a Civil War veteran, saying something like, "Automobiles, they'll never catch on, who needs them? I'll keep my horses and when I need a new one, I'll breed one. You can't breed automobiles!" Fortunately, horses are still around to enjoy. Just like our manually operated and maintained Zs will be in 50-100 years. Like it or not, we're all going to live in the future. Dennis
  7. Eerr, its not derogatory, the myth of the Samurai conversions (apart from the odd car with some history- and even some of that is written wrong in places and myths occur) is rather over- sung. Some (a few) actually had some decent engine work done, I also hear someone witnesses some cylinder head work done whilst the head is still on the block, in the car. Some were just bolting the likes of Webers and a Janspeed exhaust, and a paint job, and somehow its........... It has a place in the UK S30 history, but its over-egged. For me, much more significant and interesting S30 stuff was going on in other places in the world, e.g. Japan. Nice to see them though, they are nice examples. I think there were more S30's at Silverstone a few years ago.
  8. It looks like ground up aluminum. I bought an old mystery transmission, filled it up with some old fluid and spun it on the back of my garage engine. The fluid looked like that when it came out. Ground up shift fork. With the lash pad, the seal material, and the silver, kind of looks like a camshaft might have damaged itself in the past. The camshaft tower bushing journals are aluminum. The cam rides right on the tower material. Lots of aluminum in other places too that could get rubbed on.
  9. Another benefit of the Kia motor over the Honda one is that the Kia one requires no soldering. I believe the Honda motor requires a resistor or something to be soldered in as the Honda motor blows backwards when plugged into an S30 without that modification which isn't necessary with the Kia one.
  10. The history is quite a bit more vague than the scarabs. They didn't make 74 cars, the company that now owns the name is hoping to try and cash in on it, with a dubious start. Some of the cars were nothing more than a set of triples and wheels. There's 3 or 4 with good history(big sam), the rest are without it(69 cars and counting) Some cars called samurais are not classed as so by the guy that came up with the concept, theres more cars being added to the register each year. Theres no set spec, no set design, no set anything.
  11. Very nice.. they have quite the history on that site!

  14. I often stare at the ceiling as I lie awake and think of all the money I throw at the car!
  15. I'm surprised to hear so many say they don't like the diamond inside original 240's. I really like the look & its unique to these cars.
