3 pointsHere's a nice stitched panorama of the Zcon judged car staging the night before the show. (Photo courtesy of Kim Taylor--- author (with collaboration) of the first ZCCA judging rulebook.)3 points- Speedometer Pinion Gear ( Cog ) Roll Pin
OK...I got the pin installed. I think the key to this task is first to get the cog housing solidly fixed so that it doesn't move any at all when you're trying to drive in the roll pin. I built a "jig" from a couple scraps of wood and this worked nicely. I also figured out a way to get the housing solidly fixed into a vice so that it wouldn't move while driving in the roll pin. Also, to get the roll pin started, I filed one end of it down enough so that the pin started into the hole enough to make the first few taps with the hammer easy. Thanks again for the advice....now on to the next problem!2 points- Weber selection and initial jet tuning
Found a source for both parts and ordered them up today. I did get the car started with the new dizzy last night and adjusted the timing, but realized I couldn't tighten it down with the 240 mount/plate.2 points- Picked up a couple of hard to find parts recently
I have one of the 'Radio Delete' trays too, and have sometimes heard them called a 'Sunglasses Tray' in Japan. It seems to work as well for that purpose as any other:2 points- Picked up a couple of hard to find parts recently

1 pointChris, I don't believe that the Hemmings auctions have started yet. They announced that they were coming soon and the details look very similar to the BAT auction site. There's an auction for a 77 280Z on the BAT site that ends today - it may give you an idea what such an auction brings for $$$$. You can also go through the Hemmings listings for similar Zs as yours and arrive at a selling price for your Z for the on-line add. Remember, when selling , we northern folk get an advantage with the dollar exchange. Not so much when we want to buy. cheers1 point- Cataloging 240z factory manufacture paint marks
Hi motorman7 , I found my ZG has the same paint marking on the bottom of the block , but it is on the right side end . Kats1 point- Cataloging 240z factory manufacture paint marks
Hi Kats, There is also an identical paper sticker on the steering rack, location varies from car to car!1 point- Cataloging 240z factory manufacture paint marks
Hi , I love this thread. Here is what I see the ones in my Fairlady 240ZG . Are those yellow markings the same in the ones in other cars ? Kats1 point- 918 orange Z in NH/MA area??
1 pointJust beware of the photos verses seeing it in person. That color seems to vary so much depending on the light conditions of a photo. Incandescent verses florescent, sunny days verses clouds and shade.1 point- 918 orange Z in NH/MA area??
1 pointHere's my contribution to the 918 Anonymous club. This paint job is about 2 years old and done in old skool acrylic enamel.1 point- Mikuni 50mm carbs for 240z
1 pointThanks Alan , Did the previous owner put some reproduction A15 type stickers on them? I think so too , that sticker “ A15 “ looked to be replica. Is there a correct designation for 44 PHH -2 ? I think an “ A15 “ is for a STD GTR , is not it ? The seller took away the carbs from the auction way before the end of the day . Japanese people say “ “Every fish that escapes appears greater than it is.” I want to see that carburetors again . Kats1 point- We're bringin' back the Flat Tops!

1 pointThose are some good looking cars- including the lime one! Am I wrong to use the spare tire area as a location for the correct color? It just looks pale there but the pics above don't look pale at all. Perhaps one of you can take off a fender and ship it to me so I can take a closer look!?1 point- Sunday Fun Run
1 pointNot too many Datsun people out here in northern Utah, I think the winter salt has killed most of the old Datsuns like it did to my 73. So I just go with the regular local hot rodders. But note how much room they give me when we parked in this cemetery! And I took low hand for $80 in the poker draw!1 point- float bowl overflow
1 pointComparison pic of replacement and original needle valves from a previous discussion. Also, Grose Jets have detractors -- good concept but not perfect. Thanks zspert. The support you gave me was a major factor in my car’s Gold Medallion success. There are few with your depth of knowledge and experience with respect to factory originality when talking about the Datsun 240z. The Z community will always benefit from your successes.1 point- Cataloging 240z factory manufacture paint marks
Given that there wasn't a set way of doing it in the factory, all of it limited/chosen by human hand, there's no 'Right or wrong'.1 point- Cataloging 240z factory manufacture paint marks
Guys, Guys, Guys, don't over do it!!! I'm in the process of prepping what should be the next 240 Gold medallion car for the 2020 convention. Here's the way I apply the yellow to achieve the correct look. I buy a can of School Bus Yellow spray paint at Lowe's/Home Depot, brand not important. At the same time I buy 3-4 1 inch foam brushes. Spray the paint into the plastic can cap, dip the foam brush into the yellow and apply. Results aren't too neat and the paint is thin, just like Nissan did it. Very interesting discussion about the red trans marks. Absolutely not the same from car to car and not always red. My last restoration, 10/71 Red with white, had a multi color piece of art on top of the trans. Difficult to reproduce but I think I did that line worker justice. Unfortunately can't seem to be able to find the picture I can't be sure I took, damn! Oh Yeah, don't forget the blue assembly marks on the balance pipe freeze plugs. AND the blue dot on the 240 fuse link. Just scratched the surface of this topic and have created enough confusion for now. Cheers1 point- Picked up a couple of hard to find parts recently
OK - now you have to tell us how this all came about. How does one accumulate all that? - that's the question I have ever time I watch "American Pickers". I know how I wound up with a bunch of NOS parts - every time I needed a part for a 240Z, I'd order 2 or 3 because the cost of shipping was usually more than the cost of the part. So I'd order 2 or 3 so I wouldn't have to pay the shipping costs again later.1 point- Zcon 2019

1 point- My weekly rant. Premature Parts Death Plague
Kats, these concerns aren't just limited to cars and parts. Just look at household appliances, home construction materials, etc, etc.. Who do we blame? The manufacturer, or the majority of consumers who wants to buy these things for the cheapest price? In my old age, I'm starting to focus more on quality/workmanship of well made (and typically expensive) products. It's a lot easier to appreciate...1 point- sweatys rebuild
1 pointtook the pig for a nice drive yesterday and am happy to find that the hard, hot-start issue is gone. little throttle and it fires right up!1 point- Grinding when going into 3rd
1 pointAny Datsun/Nissan tranny (1970-83) normally used in an S30 weren't made to use new style gear oil which is why Redline M/T or Swepco & ATF is often recommended (the late John Coffey said either was what he used). Several places sell it such as - http://www.paragon-products.com/Swepco-201-Transmission-Fluid-p/swepco-201.htm Grinding could be a clutch fork or slave issue if it's just one gear change but a synco can't be ruled out. As to getting the filler and drain plugs loose, the drain is the easiest with a 1/2-inch breaker bar and a short section of pipe for leverage while the filler plug seems to resist just about anything you throw at it. With the car on jack stands I use a small Sears jack that has a cup which hold a 17mm wrench within the cup and the other end on the plug. Jacking up the wrench usually does the trick. Now filling can be an issue especially if you are under the car pumping away waiting for gear oil to spill out. Instead I fill from the top using just the right amount of gear oil which I measure out before starting.1 point- WTB: Hitachi Radio
