  1. Only those of us that still use the term "Tin Foil", or I could say "only us old farts".
  2. Sheet metal shapes were formed on a hydraulic press over shaping bucks with heat and pressure. Your car is a perfect illustration of the technology at the time and just how much curvature could be formed in sheet metal. It is why, for instance, the early headlight 'scoops' were made of FRP and later ones metal as the technology and machinery improved.
  3. Big ole lumpy cam and a tweaked motor paired with fuel injection AND a modern ECU makes a pretty sweet motor! FI is great as long as you update the electronics with a Haltech or similar system. .... just sayin’.... [emoji6]
  4. I am a Saran Wrap and Tin foil guy ?
  5. TDC COMPRESSION STROKE!!!!!! Pull #1 plug and shove a vacuum plug that just fits the hole in there. Turn over motor till that sucker shoots across the room- you found compression stroke . Now line everything up
  6. Best money I've ever spent, legally.
  7. Yeah, that may not have been a good street car. I like the SU carb idea. I know these EFI systems are touted as reliable though. Anybody got an SU intake and carbs for sale. As these cars age I think one of the weak links is the wiring and sensors for the EFI. Fusible links etc. The Bernoulli Principle that carbs use is timeless, plus you and your wife get to smell like a gas tank when you go on a date. I’m gonna do something like Dave WM and take my old engine and put it on a stand and drive my wife and neighbors crazy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I've used several layers of paper towels soaked in Evapo-Rust, then layed the wet towels as flat as possible on the vertical? rusty surfaces and covered the towels with Saran Wrap. (does anyone use that term anymore?) I checked the progress and re-wet the towels using a spray bottle as needed.
  9. I am a bad boy. Have not updated this thread for far too long. Shame shame. I'm nearing the end of the voyage. It has been frought with problems, big surprise, but the car is now running well enough to get it to my friends shop for a dyno tune next week. Plan on taking it to Vancouver for their All Japanese show on the 25th. You'll have to be satisfied with a few pictures for now.
  10. The hose is actually rubber. It's just gotten that hard over time. A heat gun or boiling water can help make it more pliable to get it out or to get the tank neck into the tube
  11. Ok I am really starting to believe I did in fact jump the gun on my motor, I went through everything while it was apart and all I could find is a small leak on the exhaust valves for 5 & 6, just like you said @Mark Maras. I did a quick lapping on them and it stopped the leak. I then cleaned the head up and put it all back together. It now runs great and the oil pressure is right where it should be. Nothing wrong with the carbs as well so if in fact it just decided to run really rich for a while I have no idea what caused it.
  12. It certainly is. Bunny Ears... (ish)
  13. Jim: Pulled the speedo gear out of a spare 4 speed A tranny to see if I could see anything. It is a worm gear with 6 "threads" from the start to finish.
  14. Get on to Rockauto and browse. They have lots of pictures, you might see a critical clue. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/nissan,1990,240sx,2.4l+l4,1208977,brake+&+wheel+hub,caliper,1704 https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/nissan,1985,maxima,3.0l+v6,1211252,brake+&+wheel+hub,caliper,1704
  15. I also added a fuel pressure monitoring circuit to the return fuel line on the recommendation of my Z Car Club. The Haltech can monitor the pressure and shut down the timing if the fuel pressure drops below a preset. Cool! This along with two liquid pressure gauges in the engine bay should keep me well informed.
  16. Yeah, Lenny had a new family member and project stalled.
  17. It has been fun for me to play with all the numbers . With complete control you can run a ton of advance and run the motor lean without worrying . Cruise at 16AFR and 45 degrees all day . The beauty of having a well engineered mechanical platform and modern technology to run it
  18. A lot of good info in this Tech article.

I believe he meant that "non-EGR" was better and valuable, but still not worth 5K... that's what I got out of it anyways...
  20. The Haltech is so configurable and definable for inputs that it leaves me with these great opportunities to tune and refine the entire combustion process! I am really excited to get all the sensors installed and reporting to the ECU in order to max out the potential of this motor. Good news is, a certain influential someone who sold me this motor just got HIS Haltech system working with a similar setup, so that is very encouraging!!
  21. I did this last summer and it is very frustrating trying to apply enough force but not damage the bolt. In the end, what worked for me is a combination of what EuroDat and Patcon wrote. I used lots of heat. left the nut on to protect the threads. Tried to avoid heating the bolt and instead direct heat to the fork body. Key though was to use a steel bar resting on the nut so that I could hammer from closer to outside of the housing. I used a 3/8" socket extension with the square side resting on the nut. I would heat and then tap. Eventually, it moved. I bet I worked at it for 2 hours too. Be patient and it will eventually free up.
  22. Build is looking good. Too late now but I would have mentioned that you could shove 14mm high impedance injectors in the stock manifold and they will seal. Probably a mute point if have a 11mm fuel rail. I’m running Audi 1.8 Bosch type now. As far as catch can , PCV, etc, I added a pic of mine . You said you run a catch can, probably plumbed the same way. There’s a few hoses there if you can pick it out. The hose off the intake is for the IAC . The can catches more than I thought. I like how you cleaned the intake up. I need to do a cable myself to get rid of the linkage.
  23. First test print to look at clearances. I think it will need to be angled more.
  24. The Monkees were "followers" it seems. I never knew Jimi Hendrix had anything to do with them, thanks @black gold man Now I read they blamed Jack Nicholson too. https://people.com/music/monkees-michael-nesmith-memoir-infinite-tuesday-drugs-illness-jack-nicholson-bromance/
  25. Don Kirshner introduced pure bubble gum music with cartoon band members because the Monkees got uppity and wanted to play their own music. Thanks for nuthin' Don.
  26. I put the nut back on it most of the way. Lay a steel bar into the case laying on the nut and strike it with a hammer. It should come out.

Hi, That's my dash in the auction. In the box without padding is how I got it, but I will be packing it far better, better supported to keep it from flexing and with plenty of soft packing to keep it from moving around in the box. I got it about 6 months ago... and didn't realize it had a crack until I took it out of the box to take pictures for the auction. Hard to say what caused it, but I think it happened because in storage there was pressure pushing the center console opening wider at the bottom... Anyway, I am doing a restoration and will be going with a Vintage Dashes one - a series 1 style to match the one in my car. If they weren't available, I would use this one instead. Garrett
