  1. Finally got around to replacing the inner door panels and took her out for a few laps around the neighborhood today! It was gorgeous out and the fall colors were in full bloom!
  2. Your brain took a wheee? Was that wrong? It feels wrong.

Continued parts removal and now have the car just about completely stripped and ready to ship off to Miguel. I will clean off the remaining weather stripping and do a bit more general clean-up on the body this Tuesday and then have this transported to his shop on Wednesday. Miguel insisted that I install the 'Low Rider' 5 inch rims with solid rubber tires on the body in preparation for paint shop delivery. You can see them in the pictures. I thought the car would look better with some 16 inch Panasports, but he likes these wheels. I did veto the hydraulics, however.....just kidding ? Actually, the stands work out great and it was nice to be able to assemble them on the car at my place. That way I get to keep all of the suspension and fasteners in order. The fuel pump is interesting. It is a different model than the Blue 73 I just did. I should do a bit more research on this. The differential looks like it spent some time at the bottom of the sea. Actually, it is just a lot of dirt.
  4. I found this early BRE article in an August 1970 Japanese Magazine. There are several shop photos showing a 240Z and 510 or Bluebird. Google translate says "Datsun 510 (Bluebird) will make adjustments to participate in the Mexican Road Race this year." BRE participated in the 1969 Mexican 1000 (later renamed the Baja 1000) with a RHD four door Bluebird (which he reacquired several years ago). I'm not sure if this is the same car being refurbished after the race or a new car. With the several months lead time involved in publishing magazines back then I would assume the photos would be from April 1970 or earlier. Google translate also says "Datsun Z (Fairlady Z) in production for racing this season." I wonder if this was the original #46 car in development? Per Road and Track magazine, BRE received their first 240Z in late January 1970 and it was one of the first 20 Z's to arrive in the US at the port of Los Angeles. I showed this article to Pete Brock and John Morton at their recent open house (hence the signatures) but unfortunately they didn't really have a lot of information to add. John did say he thought the #46 car was originally white from the factory though.
  5. Okay, here she is. This paint is called Cast Coat Iron DE1651 by Duplicolor. I think it looks pretty awesome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Man.... You're way out.* And I'm in line one number behind you!! Hahahaha!!!! * Way out!
  7. I have a wheee brain....
  8. Could also be retarded timing. Make sure timing advances with RPM. You can check that with a light, non-driving.
  9. That job would have been perfect for Mig silicon bronze wire, low heat and an easy grind.
  10. Cliff, you need to keep your library more organized. The Dui Decimal System is outdated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Mine is a 07 ‘73, so maybe that year? Everything I have matches Patcon’s except the TREs.
  12. I couldn't remember who went with that color and it was Whee! My brain is relieved for a minute...
  13. Read the Datsun Z wikipedia page. It will tell you all kinds of information, timeline etc.
  14. Haha!! I'm not going to give you any trouble about your color choice. Like Smails hat... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj_aid1LUF0
  15. Sorry, this shell was sold long ago. ConverTT hasn’t had a chance to update the thread.
  16. Yes, I think the Moogs I got are crimped together. From a quick tug my originals don’t feel like they have any play, but the crimped o es are stiff and tough to move around compared to them, even before I pulled them. It’s possible that they needed adjusting, but I’m ambivalent about whether they are “right.” but no more need to hijack this thread. We should pick this back up in my build thread or CO’s rack thread.
  17. Apparently never heard of 3m panel bonding adhesives (or one of several other brands). Welding is SO yesterday..... (said the man who thinks EFI is something new and cool....)
  18. yep just keep cleaning, If you find anything at all like that in any of the EFI you will have problems. I assume you have taken a close look at all the injector/AFM/other sensors and looked for any blue/green stuff. It all needs to be clean. the thing about the early EFI is they are dumb in that there is no learning or compensation going on. It like wearing blind fold while some one guides you thru a maze. If the person yelling out directions is not optimal you will be banging into walls.
  19. Matthew, my first car was a MG Midget. As long as you drive responsibly, the choice of car shouldn’t matter much. It’s all up to you. The weakest part on any given car is the “nut” holding the steering wheel. ? If you have a need for speed, there are track/autocross opportunities out there, although they may require you to be at least 18 years old. Good luck with whatever direction you end up going. ?
  20. Drive the Corolla. Save your money and, if you have space, buy a 280Z in good condition and store it for later. You can then spend time learning about your car and what it will need. Keep saving and slowly restore it to a road worthy vehicle. By that time you will have enough driving experience hopefully to appreciate the old Datsun. Definitely not a First Car IMHO...
