  2. I would fill those pits with something as they are outside of the piston sealing region but would make a nice "chain of lakes" for coolant to leak. Some JB Weld to fill and a flat to knock down would do the trick. I'd rather have some micro bumps rather than the big pits.

  7. I'd use the u-joint half-shafts that you have. Get a zerk fitting, remove the little screws and lube them up. They'll probably last another 40 years. The "CV" half-shafts are not really much better than the u-joint shafts. They're probably cheaper to manufacture, maybe why Nissan switched.
  8. The "pads" are still required to hold the fenders to the correct height and prevent vibrations. The seal should stop most debris from going from fender well to engine bay. The old flat seal was junk and the new bulb style fit perfect. I used an eBay seal that came in a 3 meter length and did both sides and the front hood to rad support seal as well.
