jonbill joined the forum a year and a half before you did, Bob.
  2. Thanks 7tooZ, I'm pretty excited about the interactions I've had so far on this site. Seems like a great resource. Navigation is a little mysterious but I'll catch on for sure. I love my FJ40. Close to turning 400K miles on original engine. Oil pressure is still 60 lbs. and compression test recently showed 137-130-115-130-125-137. She's not dead yet!!
  3. If my memory is correct, Wheee came up with this fix. If the sending unit has electrical continuity (check it with an ohm meter), submerge it in CLR for 24-48 hours. You'll be amazed and it will be usable as well as looking good.

I live about 10 miles from him if I can be of help.
  5. Common on most European 240z I think
  6. Here are some pictures of PS30-00187 , the most famous Z432-R . Mr. Takeuchi add this front spoiler which was euro standard equipment at some point in the past . I visited a craftsman with Mr. Takeuchi , the craftsman was doing and almost finished restoration of this Z432-R several years ago. I took some pictures , you will see the spoiler clearly. Kats
  7. It's a bit sad to let them go, but I guess I understand. I've got several pairs of SU carbs sitting off my cars and will likely be putting Mikuni/Solex on my cars instead (when they are running again) so having them sit around they are not being used. It's good to keep original parts, but sometimes you have to factor in the storage space and value of them and the fact that they should be in use and if someone else is getting good use out of them that's better than having them sit dormant in a cupboard for 20 years.
  8. dmuzial, actually the leak could come from the rear engine seal or the front trans seal or both? but probably the rear engine seal. As S30Driver said, could be either, my first spindle pins came out with a few wacks of a rubber mallet. I was thinking " what are these guys all whining about, that wasn't difficult", my second, third and fourth set all had to be heated to glowing red and a 60 ton press to get them to let go.
  9. Plan on replacing the backup light switch, they are not too expensive and tend to leak internally. Spindle pins are like the lottery, you will just have to cross that bridge when you get to it .... My experience, usually one will put up a fight. You can always take them to a shop with a big press for removal.
  10. Thanks for the tip...will try... and report
  11. Thanks for reference. Yes, CLR works magic and restore s the unit quite well. Mine was pretty decrepit and is now 100%
  12. How to increase resolution:
  13. Thanks, now I feel compelled to weigh my assemblies and see where they are. Ordering a scale from Amazon now that is accurate within .5 grams. Home Built By Jeff posted a video of him balancing his pistons assemblies. He did it with pistons connected to rods. Down the rabbit hole I go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. In the right front fender was left some rusttreatment stuff.. i took it off and made this pic of a 40! year old well preserved fender! Later on this one gets a new coat of zinc and rusttreatment. Very few spots of rust. Coated in zinc. (after taking off the rusty spots..)
  15. Caution ! PS30-00187 is not for sale . Kats
  16. Lip with the matching pre drilled valence with nut insterts.
  17. Same as this 1. I can get photos of the 1 in my garage if you want, but it's all dusty ? Can only just see it below here. and at front here. I believe it was common on UK spec cars.
  18. That's a beautiful car, love the detail of it. There is a link to an album with more photos and a video of it too. S20 sounds beautiful. I really like the sound of it compared with a more simple L-series engine. I get the same feeling looking at the S20 as I do when I look at my RB26, I just feel they are a very special engine, it's kind of hard to quantify it, but it's the look, sound, smell and simple/yet complex nature of these motors and their excellent engineering that draws me to them. Safari Gold is quite rare for a Z432 isn't it? I have that optional lower lip (rubber/urethane lip) sitting in my garage and the headlight covers. But the lip actually belongs to a friend in North America and I've been gently prodding him to sell it to me. I went all the way down to Wollongong 1 weekend and back to collect it for him a couple of years ago and haven't seen another for sale since then. It's a beautiful piece compared with the fiberglass copies.
  19. Sure. I've got to sort out the electrical hook up for it and the Tig welder in the garage, so it may take a week or so. I will do a separate thread when I do the testing. I will cover the job in detail in the build thread later as well.
  20. Here's yet another V8 conversion with a case of ugliness: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Datsun-240z/401984347719?hash=item5d98225e47:g:apAAAOSwIANd573g
  21. Not only is it color, but Safari Gold color!
  22. OK Thanks...I am going ahead with the gas tank, clutch, valve adj...he says the sending unit is available...hope he is right. Do have the old one though if necessary. Was able to see the car from underneath for the first time today and it seems the previous owner did tell me the truth: The car is very solid through out and he did what he said he did...new struts(? type and brand), new hd sway bars front and rear, new bushings all around, headers of some type and larger exhaust pipe, Sooo thankful for no rust!!! I want to post some pics: suggestions on specific spots of most interested? Should have it running in about a week after the gas tank comes back. Grateful for all suggestions.
  23. Time flies , it is an honor to have them in my car . I really thank Mr. K and Mike brought me to the ZCON 2000 and 2004 . 17 Japanese Z owners took their cars to the ZCON . Kats
  24. I had to decide let this Skyline GTR Mikuni 40 go to help a little bit for buying a set of 44 . They are totally original, not restored. I added re-plated brackets for the fuel pipe. Not related to the carburetor , I found this page , my blue 240Z was chosen for Mr.K and Mike , that was an autumn 2000 .Mike got the wheel , Mr. K was a navigator. Kats
  25. Amazon.com has it, $20.
  26. Hi , a 1970 Z432 , PS30- 00243 is now on Yahoo Japan auction. ■昭和45年 日産 フェアレディ Z432 オプション多数付の車両・マグホイール箱入り付!! https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/t690389765 Kats
  27. Nothing to stop such a car being driven. That's what its for, and what it likes. In fact, this particular car is several steps on from being a factory-correct 'survivor' car and has been prepared - noting engine work by S20 specialists 'R Factory' - to be a trouble-free turnkey driver. I just hope it goes into the hands of somebody who will enjoy driving it whilst we are still allowed to do so... Personally I'd just like to see some of that glaringly-new 918 paint inside the car covered by more 432-R-correct satin black.
  28. I forgot to say My 240Zs runs great ! Handling great ! Here are some pictures of the auction car PS30-00289 , I took the pictures 2018, you can see some items are replaced to be more proper . The exhaust system was not beautiful at that time, the bottom was loosened badly. Kats
  29. Not hurt at all, I just saw the thread diverting into a bit of a sH!t show. With a dash of tit for tat thrown in. Much like the thread Alan referred to previously where the L24 and S20 are being compared. And whilst it wasn't directly purely at you, I just get frustrated seeing the same silly comments made anytime a home market car like the Z432 and Z432-R is discussed. It seems odd to me, when it comes to other marques usually there is respect for the "best of breed" version and they are highly coveted. Here it seems that we want to find flaws in it and talk them down. No idea what drives it, perhaps it's envy?
  30. The S20 and L24 are almost identical weight.. It's that the L24 has 400cc more, but the S20 has better breathing head for high rpm racing.
  31. I could clear this all up with a couple of pics. There is a step in the entire fork that was created after the plastic wear tip wore away. Must have been some heavy shifter leaning going on. I’m just engrossed in another shop improvement project (insulating my roof) while I wait for the trans rebuild kits to arrive. Nothing more fun than stuffing fibreglass bats between rafters 12 ft off the floor on a rikkety ladder.
