More Work In Progress: License Lights. While waiting for the inspection lights to get back from plating (they finally did!) I started on some license lights in the hoard. Of all the pieces and parts, three lights will make it thru to near term completion. The back sides have been painted flat white topped with clear to cover stains and increase brightness, bulb circuits all checked out, front covers going into primer. The gaskets on these units are usually shot but I was fortunate to find one not broken. To make new gaskets I had some 1/16" adhesive back neoprene on hand so I made a paper copy of the gasket on the printer, taped the copy to the neoprene, and cut out a new gasket. It turned out to be too thin to easily work so I doubled the neoprene and repeated the process. Success - three nice gaskets that fit securely in place.
  3. Thanks everyone. Just learned a new term too: splined.
  4. @siteunseen I had not done that, great suggestion thank you!

It's odd how you keep overlooking the fact that staying within the capacity of the healthcare system saves lives. You should watch Governor Cuomo's morning briefings. He understands this and explains it very well, and is planning re-opening based on that principle. He has an actual long-term plan. A healthcare system that is at full capacity cannot care for any new patients, no matter what their problem. Car crashes, overdoes, assaults, etc. all get left outside because the system is full. The main point of flattening the curve is to have some capacity left for the rest of the patients. The alternative is to reject all of the COVID-19 patients because it's an inconvenience. Aside from the moral aspects, doctors have taken an oath, the Hippocratic oath, to take care of all patients. I can't really imagine a society where we're out and about, spreading disease, because we want to go see a movie or workout in the gym. I understand the economic reasons, working to produce the things we need to live, and things that can be produced at low risk. But trading lives for personal enjoyment is unimaginable. I guess it boils down the definition of harm and good.
  6. When an upholstery fitter uses steam, it's done as an aid while physically working the piece to achieve the desired positioning. And that's what takes the wrinkles out. To put it another way, you may have to strategically stretch the vinyl while it's soft so as to try to get a more uniform stretch across the full surface. This might be risky work, because your visors now each have a long, taped seam. Based on your 'before' photos, it looks like you were already 90% of the way to a perfect job. Maybe not worth stressing over the last 10%, esp. when: a) nobody but you will notice the difference, and; b) you risk making a mistake and ruining the nice result you've got right now.
  7. It is a slip fit. Try to hammer it lightly from outside. Maybe heating and then cooling will release it. Bellow.mp4
  8. Found this. Was thinking that, along with "steel to nylon" compression fittings on each end, this repair would allow for an effective and tidy repair that would still allow me to use the original fuel line brackets.
  9. here is a thought, depending on your welding skill, get some sheet steel, try cutting and patching, I would do that just to see if I can weld well enough, Practice on the patch. IF it all looks good and you find no other evidence of rust with the bore scope you have a win. IF the patch process turns into a cluster, then you still have the rails that you can give a try or find a welder with the skill level needed. My only exp with welding is a cheapo HF flux core welder I used for some exhaust work, I had no idea what I was doing, but after a LOT of welding and grinding off bad welds it came out pretty well. I did a butt weld to round thin tube used in the exhaust, prob not the easiest 1st time MIG. So really depends on your skill level what you want do to.
  10. Hi Guys! Have been looking for a way to give back to this amazing community and was doing research on replacement spring/strut options. Figured I would share out my research since this landscape has changed over the years. This will cover currently available drop-in struts and springs. If you are looking for Coilover Kits, see @AlbatrossCafe's fantastic post here. Please feel free to post options that I have missed or additional data points you want to see. Disclaimer: I will be updating this over the next couple days, so there will be some "To Be Determined (TBD)" placeholders until I can fill it in. 11. I wouldn't weld them on over rusty rails. I'd replace the old rails with new ones.
  12. Okay, the car was running a Pertronix with a bypassed ballast resistor and upgraded coil. @Dadsun sorry for the bad advice, I had forgot my car was modified.
  13. Well I suppose an update is in order. A smallish fix has got me into the "while I'm here" state of mind and things have ballooned a little bit. Everything out of necessity I'm telling myself. Decided it'd be a good idea to replace the pilot bushing. Clutch kit comes with one after all. I'd say the old one was pretty tired. Wow! Got the flywheel resurfaced. Swapping in a wide ratio 5 speed. Cleaning it up a bit because it was filthy. Due to changing from a short ratio 5 speed to a wide, I am now switching out my r180 3.36 for a r200 3.54 I had attached to another shell. Pardon the messy shop. It's just how it is. It gets used.
  14. I am in the market for ceramic coating headers for my 73Z. I have the Ztherapy SU's with no internal engine performance changes. I have been looking for a 2.25 inch exhaust because I think the 2.5 inch is overkill. I am not finding any ceramic coated headers w/2.25 inch outlet. Like to hear from jtay or others who have the MSA 6to1 header. How is the noise level and did you install a resonator & what muffler do you have. Below is some research on different header sources & options. 15. Yes, that is to be expected for the early years.
  16. ... it helped me turn back to being four years old again!!
  17. I do. Send me a photo and I will send you one to try. dpappe@gmail.com
  18. I've used a pointed implement of destruction such as an ice pick and pushed, probed and stabbed frame rails. You'll find any thin spots and the inspection tool will leave little to no damage if the rail is sound. I'm betting you'll find more soft spots.
  19. Whilst poking around inside my 4/70 HLS30UV project car the other day, I noted that the passenger floor tar mat was manufactured in a shape which accommodates the possibility of fitting an OEM passenger footrest:
  20. @ConVerTT I took inspiration from your jig and I started to make one based off of your design with a few tweaks. I making a CAD model that's not quite yet complete, but I'm referencing your post with the drawing in the maintenance manual. Depending on how sturdy it turns out, I might do some math and see if I can turn it into a rotisserie! Check it out! !!!!!!WARNING!!!!! Drawing/model are not complete, dimensions may not be accurate!!!
