  1. I removed most of my coolant plumbing, SMOG equipment, and installed a euro balance tube to tidy up the engine bay. Since the car is a fair weather plaything, it doesn't need to be setup for temperature extremes.

I agree. I believe they are interchangeable although the 280z fender may have mounting points for the fender liner that the earlier cars don't have (UIM)
  3. The rain came through here last night now it's headed up to you lucky guys.
  4. I saw on the news that the Northeast is in for a major snowstorm.
  5. Not me, but it looks a lot like Norm the guy I did my apprenticeship. He ran a transmission repair shop in the eighties. Mostly doing Borg warner 35 Auto transmissions, but we also had quite a few datsun transmissions, mostly from the 720 trucks from the coal mines.
  6. Chas you are the man, the transmission man, bumper conversion man plus whatever else you do. I bow to you Sir! Isn't this you???
  7. Hi Siteunseen, I have read that information as well, but it is not the reason for the design change/improvement. I have alsl read the the control lever bush Pos#25 moves through an arc when you go from 1st, 3rd or 5th back to 2nd, 4th or reverse. That means the bush would normally lift up out of the striking rod Pos#6. You would expect the spring to be on the bottom side to prevent this. Another thing I heard was to reduce vibrations transfering to your hand when changing gear. The theory is you press it in slightly and the lever floats on the spring. It's a theory. Creature comfort in the 280ZX.
  8. Zcarsource is the only site that still has them. https://zcarsource.com/shifter-pin-bushing-kit-82-83-280zx-non-turbo-new/ They have been NLA at Nissan for more than 10 years
  9. Hmmm, saw a post on AtlanticZ talking about that. Now where to find an older shift rod......

Okay. I maybe didn’t put it exactly where it goes, but the bigger one with 4 holes is now near the emergency brake mechanism. Once I put it on, everything sort of settled into place better, and it’s keeping one of the lines away from a spot it was rubbing, so I think it’s doing it’s job. the one with 3 holes is still a mystery. I chased all the lines and couldn’t find a place where there was an empty bracket, particularly where I have 3 lines. Wondering if this is a 280 part.
  11. Early Xmas present arrived... out of the uk from auto panel solutions

It's great stuff, particularly when a paper gasket is used, just the thinnest layer is needed but on both sides. It doesn't work so well if you use it by itself with no gasket, that has been my experience with it.
  13. Those are some cool tools SteveJ. I need to get some leads like those. And that meter is the sparsest Fluke I've seen. Didn't know they made one like that. I did a search for it and see that it's discontinued. But I did stumble across another basic Fluke meter that would be a great starting point for anyone, I think. No amp measuring but very few people use that feature, and on a car you can use voltage drop as a clue. The Fluke 101. Appropriate. And it's small. Very tempting to get a spare. https://www.amazon.com/Fluke-101-Multimeter-Resistance-Capacitance/dp/B00HE6MIJY/ref=sr_1_9_mod_primary_new?dchild=1&keywords=fluke+16+multimeter&qid=1608065034&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sr=8-9
  14. I'm not sure anyone has noticed this yet, but the head had to be modified for injectors. Unlike Duffy, I am using a stock(ish) '75 intake manifold that has been extrudehoned. Otherwise, the only way to use EFI would be to do as Duffy did and use ITB's. I know there is more power to be had with the ITB's and someday, if Duffy can make them work really politely, I might take that leap. I want my wife to ride in the car and maybe even drive it. It is the only car I own that I have found her sitting in and 'fake driving.' She said, "I want to drive this one!" That is high praise for the Datsun because I have owned perfect 911's, 914-6, Delorean, Ferrari 308GTB, and a 944 Turbo. Pricilla has a completely restored red factory interior and I attribute her fondness for this car to the newness of the cabin. (She did like the Delorean and Ferrari). So given that I'm using a stockish set up, I had Rebello machine the head for injectors.
