So i went to my local paint shop and had some single stage made up to match an alternator bracket that still had some factory blue on it. Cody got the block all taped up last weekend but ti was too cold. S o I sprayed it this weekend. It's much darker than it looks in the sunlight. Much more like the paint in the can looks. He is planning on working on the rotating assembly next weekend
  3. I found the crack. Hopefully that’s the only place. It’s the big hose from the vent tank to the gas tank. About 3” from the clamp. The cut is about an inch, very clean. Wonder how it cracked like that. The hose is braided and I installed new. About 18 months now. will try to get the test again and keep you guys posted. Thanks for the help and yes, 2 bicycle valves stem, soldering iron, a clear, 10’ tube with bicycle pump did the trick.
  4. My favorite picture, this is good I think, details are well shown in there . From Auto Sport , Kats
  5. Hi guys, I ended up getting a 280Zx distributor from California Datsun. It works some much better than my points, idles so much smoother.
  6. Good commentary on the razor blades. Having the brand of a good product always helps. The heat gun/razor blade paint removal process beats the hell out of chemical stripper. Along that line, back in '97 my brother the "expert" body man was helping me with my restoration (that went dormant until last year). So last year when I was cutting out a bunch of crappy work I had done back then I found 1/4" of filler in the rear lower quarters. Darn I said, how did that get there? Can you imagine, a 1/4"? Guess who's not helping this time around? 😁
  7. Jute in Serial No 4684: This is the earliest VIN jute photo I have found. Baring any other information, I will create my template based on the above. Keith

I checked all the things listed above and they are working again, not sure which one it was but it's all good.
  9. Also, I don’t disagree with you except on one point. I have a family and three kids who absolutely depend on me for everything. My job as a father and husband is to always be standing on the wall looking out for threats to their safety and security. In the almost 0% chance of a future dystopian world, if I’m alive I I will do what I can you minimize the impact to them.
  10. We all tryed the cheaper ones and ... then we knew why they were so cheap! 😄 The saying is not for nothing (overhere at least:) Good tools is half the work!
  11. Other than on a race engine it's probably just a feel good thing but nothing wrong with that. That is what these cars are all about.
  12. That is foil-backed Mylar. There's also a clear Mylar that has no EMF protectant properties. Used to make transparences. Mylar is a trade name for the base material. It's polyester. https://usa.dupontteijinfilms.com/resources/trademark/
  13. I guess I had a typo. I meant Mylar. It is used to store everything from food to electronics. It has very strong EMF blocking performance. I have a bunch of these bags from my time in the military. They were used to store sensitive circuit boards etc I put the ECUs in there mainly to protect them from moisture and air. Mylar is durable so they don’t tear easy and great for long term storage.
  14. Considering only the math, increasing the oil passage diameter from 0.239" to 0.250" would increase the cross-section by just under 10%. I suppose that's worthwhile, but only a Datsun engine expert would know. It would seem to be a lot of expense for a street-use-only engine. Have you checked Tom H's book, 'How to Modify your Nissan & Datsun OHC Engine'?
  15. So I have a question. I have heard that the rod bearings can lack sufficient oil because one main bearing feeds two rod bearings. There was a hack I came across to rebore the galley feeding the main larger. They suggested 1/4" but it looks pretty close to that. Thoughts??
  16. I'm surprised Dave ( z'sondabrain ) hasn't invented such a device......he could literally sell 500 of the bastards and they would be a cinch to manufacture! I'll take four Dave.
