  1. I removed my wipers and the trim today. The side trim does have two screws located under the door weatherstrip. After removing the screws I was able to wiggle the trim loose from the trim above the door. There were no plastic clips present holding the trim in place. No sign of adhesive either. Perhaps this is why the bottom trim was never held in place very well and my top piece just flew off one day after a drive. I will take my glass man's advice when he arrives to determine the best way to keep the top and bottom trim in place. I do new upper and lower strips and a small rubber seal for the permiter of the glass. I'll post my resulting experience after the job has been completed.
  2. Haha yes ST 174-20.001 Kent Moore Timing chain wedge, wood 🙂 Last week i got offered another bunch of parts from a seller which i've bought parts from before. His packages usually contain a lot of mystery parts from other generation Z's, some random Z memorabilia and then some really nice and rare bits for my project in a package deal. This time was no different and the parts arrived today. The lot incldued two very nice hubcaps and two pretty worn ones: A bunch of NOS parts and refurbished ones. I was told the switch with cable on the top center is a "Joker" switch for those blind spots in the center console. I have to figure that out and confirm it first. One of the most important parts for me definitly is the Handbrake divider thing, which was still mising in my parts so far and that "Datsun" horn button on the top left (no brand, but i guess it's aftermarket) which might be nice to fit to one of my aftermarket steering wheels. A set of random new and re-plated fasteners. Some which i can immediately identify as S30, some remain a mystery. Also not all of them are in very good condition despite being replated and beyond usage. But that's no problem, i have most of those parts either new or in refurbished good condition and will just keep them as "spares" in my nuts and bolts box 🙂 The set also included a newer "Option" Magazine about the fairlady Z, which included a starroad tuned S30 and a Car with the Datsunworks Crossflow head. And then this metal model of an 1932 Datsun. The box looks old but i wasn't able to see a manufacturer at my quick first look and i've seen a few of those for sale over the year. anyway. Nice to have in my diecast-corner. And then some other bits and pieces which might or might not be useful at some point of the restauration. that 260Z (i think) center cap is absolutely mint, so i will probably put it up for sale and that bob sharp keychain is definitely nice, at the end it might look like a useless lot of random parts, but from my experience you can never have a good enough diversity of all those small bits and pieces, because i assure you that definitely one of these small little bastards will miss during your assembly and that 50cent item is blocking your assembly for weeks. I have a few nice documents coming in soon, plan to visit another seller soon and also hope to have a visit to the bodyshop again soon. Stay tuned
  3. View Advert 1979 280ZX 2+2 for sale This car has a personal history for me. My dad bought it in the early 1980s, drove it occasionally for about ten years, then sold it to one of my friends. My friend Jeff had it for 20+ years, but fought cancer for a couple of years and passed away this fall. Jeff and his wife Dot lived on about five acres out in the country and there is a lot of stuff she doesn't need to deal with. She has health problems and no ability to use the car, and it has been sitting for at least three years. I'm helping her sell it, and in this case maximizing the $ isn't the issue because she and I want it to find a home. She has a clear title. I just visited her, took a good look at the car and lots of photos - all attached. Please CONTACT ME for more information, as I probably know more about the car than she does. I am trying to give you good info and she really can't help much with that. The car is in eastern Washington about 5 miles east of Pullman in a farming area 80 miles south of Spokane. It will need to be trailered. The gas in it is old and I doubt it will start with the gas in it. A UHaul trailer will handle this car easily. You will need a come-along or other device to pull the ZX onto the trailer. Priced at $1500 which is very fair for a 127K mile ZX. I want it to have a new home soon. YES, you will have to come to eastern WA, load the car and trailer it yourself. It's 80 miles north to I-90, and you can get anywhere from there. Here's an evaluation of the condition: The car has been parked next to a tool shed. There are weeds growing around it in the photos. Visually, the car is bad because ALL the clear coat is peeling. It looks awful, but the car isn't actually rusty. Look at the photos and you'll see it's just clear coat shedding. It will need a repaint but there is no serious rust anywhere on it. I looked around the edges where Z-cars generally rust and there doesn't appear to be anything going on. This isn't unusual for eastern WA, which unlike western WA is low humidity and not a place where cars rust fast unless they're driven a lot in winter, which this car was not. Glass is all present and appears good. I didn't check the windshield for chips. The seats are in very good shape and have real sheepskin seat covers. (My dad bought them when he had it because they worked great for me.) The interior panels behind the seats have been taken off and all the trim is piled behind the seats under the hatch. I do not know why he removed the panels and trim. Might have had a project in mind. Speedometer shows 127K miles, which is accurate. Engine is complete and was running when parked. Transmission is a 5-speed manual. All wheels are original and correct. All tires appear to be holding air. The car was built in February of 1979 (see tag.) The car has factory air conditioning. This is a complete car that should start up with a clean tank of gas, an oil and filter change and a coolant flush. It needs a complete clean-up and a coat of paint, as well as fresh fluids from front to back. It should be a good driver and will last someone a long time. I'll add photos, but I have more. I moderate the forums at Zcar.com and I've owned and driven Z-cars since 1974. My contact email: apowell at colocougs dot org. 4. This is the easiest way I've found to get an idea if the floats are off. Small clear hose from hardware store is all you need.
  5. I could believe it when you say they fit without those barrel clips! When i restore a car i weld those (alsways trouble) holes shut! Then i use some strong double sided tape in black. I know that on those Z emblems on the L and R side at the rear are 3 barrel clips (240z at least), they are often rusted.. When you go to use some double sided tape, put the tape first on the emblem and cut it to fit with a hobbyknife, then mark the spot where you want it with some tape (Just under the spot where you want it) and then place the emblem. You'll never loose it and can easy remove it with a thin wire and NO RUST EVER! 🙂
  6. Amazing find, is that timing chain wedge made out of wood?
  7. Either kick panel would be my first choice. I would want it somewhere you dont have to be a contortionist to get to
  8. I started digging into the rust this week, j
