  1. Looking good! Yet another "painting my car" thread that is making me envious. I bought the car in 2005 and have been working on it since. Every year I always say, "next year is body and paint." Then the next year comes and I am doing something else. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

It's either a nylock nut or a prevailing torque nut (can't remember which). Nylock using a nylon insert to lock the nut and a prevailing torque nut is all steel but "squished" at the top to lock it. You can get them from Ace/Truvalue Hardware stores for under a dollar.

True and I figured that is what you meant. In retrospect you could probably run 235s in the rear without modifications to the car with the right wheel. The fronts are the limitation though.

Good luck with those damn double-flares on the brake lines.

Carl, that may be true for the front, but you can go a lot wider in the rear. I am running 245/50s on a 16x8 +10 wheel in the rear. I had to roll the rear fender and trim just a smidge off the spring perch. On the front I had to run a 10 mm spacer and trim the lower valence as well as roll the fenders.

Is this post for real? Who the hell worries about street cred, especially when it comes to wheels? By the way, larger wheels do not fill out a wheel well if the rolling diameter is the same.
  7. Zed, I just realized something. Did you post on Nasioc about your car? The color/wheels/airdam, your join date, location, etc. coincide with a poster on Nasioc talking about his 240z.

I did not enter the show but I am contemplating checking it out. Thanks for the update.
  9. Have you tried to install all three pieces but keeping them loose for adjustments?

Sunrise Z in Glendale is the place for your 280z. I do all my own work but they do come highly recommended by others.

Ebay, Craigslist, classifieds here and zcar.com and hybridz.org, junkyards, Autozone, NAPA, Autohaus AZ (GREAT resource for OE head gasksets), Rock Auto, etc.
  12. I ran into Bobc and talked to him a bit. It is great to hear that his car won the stock class. Unfortunately, that widebody drag car should not have been in modified. It was by no means a "modified" car and was clearly race prepped down to the wheelie bar. No sour grapes from me though. I found myself parked nearly in the same exact place I was last year down to being in the second row directly behind the red g-nose with the wide-zg flares (again!). The weather was perfect, certainly much nicer than last year. Bob and I both were of the opinion that there were more 240s there this year than last.
  13. Yep. This is how I do it as well. You need to be careful when pressing the new bearing on though. You can't really crank it down once the bearing seats itself otherwise you'll destroy the bearing.

Whoops, I meant non-turbo. I did this swap myself. Typed too fast without checking. Thanks for the correction.

    See my comments above.
  16. It is the case for 240zs and the 280z/280zx 5-speeds; this is discussed extensively. I have a 1992 300zx twin turbo five speed in my 1972 240z and I am using the 280z T/O collar and 280z pressure plate. I used the SAME pressure plate and collar when I was running a 1971 4-speed, 1974 4-speed, 1978 5-speed, and 1992 z32 5-speed behind the engine. There is insufficient throw at the slave cylinder. This could be caused by a leaking slave cylinder, leaking master cylinder, cracked pivot ball, cracked fork, air in the lines, bad pressure plate (my ACT PP rivets holding the diaphragm spring stretched on me and caused similar problems).
  17. The show has food and drink vendors, but water is a good idea. I would also bring a hat and some sun screen. Last year was a scorcher. Rif, here are the directions/map to Irvine Cars and Coffee: http://irvine.carsandcoffee.info/directions.php

It may help in the future to do some research before buying parts....

The ad has not been pulled. The car is for sale in the San Diego Craigslist.

    Not hard.
  21. It happens. I had a hydraulic lifter drop on my P90a head and it ate a cam lobe similar to this. The picture quality is not the greatest so it is hard to tell the extent of the damage. I was able to get my cam reground.
  22. Please say hello if you see me by my car. That goes for everyone.

I've got the MSA carbon fiber ducted version and could not be happier. The fitment was excellent. I agree with Arne on both his point that 1) the ducted version, for whatever reason, does look better, and 2) that the spook looks better than more modern airdams.
  24. San Diego Hash House for breakfast. Get there before 8 to avoid the wait. Coronado Hotel on Coronado Island Gas Lamp District for night life San Diego Zoo San Diego Aerospace and Automotive Museums (next to the zoo) Irvine (where the show is basically held) Laguna Beach is down the road. You MUST attend an Irvine Cars and Coffee show by Irvine Spectrum on Saturday morning at 7 am. It is an incredible show held every Saturday. Great Park balloon ride (free).
