Great looking bumpers! I assume bumpers have spot welded brackets on the inside same as OEM ..... any issues with alignment relative to brackets on car? Is the backside of the SST simply a mill finish or is it also polished? No rubber mount holes and no vertical add-ons is clean-cut way to go!
  2. Ken, Welcome to the site .....lotsa great info here. Small world ..... I am also originally from Long Island but been in south Florida since the mid 60's. Love the warm climate all year round. An old girlfriend now lives in New Milford ....... Reservoir Road ...... believe with her huisband.
  3. Those ports on the manifold and the fittings installed in same happen to be "BSPT". BSPT is British Standard Pipe Threads and the size and thread count are close but different than the "NPT" common in USA. A purist would take the time to buy plugs that fit properly. Parker Hannafin fittings which can be ordered via Hydraulic Fitting specialty shops used to stock BSPT plugs in different sizes and materials. I ordered plugs for my manifold thru a local shop. If you are not a purist and respond WTF you can simply buy some NPT fittings in the ballpark and just jam them in and force the treads to adapt.
  4. Zs-ondabrain, Great photos of your setup with that 2-core aluminum radiator. What holds those electric fans in place on the back side of the radiator? That Griffin radiator is huge but you imply it was short on heat transfer technology. My 3-row Silla radiator bought from Z-Specialities (in Washington?) in 2003 doesn't quite cool sufficiently at idle during summer heat. Maybe it is time to make another change since I already replaced the fan clutch with a new Paraut unit, added the MSA shroud and installed the plastic fan upgrade kit. PS ..... one of these days I will yank my turn signal/combo switch and send to you for electrical magic implants
  5. Looks like you bought it from somebody who registered the car in Florida based on snapshot of the plates? Carl Beck is the resident historian extraordinaire that may have details about the car or knows somebody that might. Post the VIN # and manufacturing date which can be found on the post behind the drivers door. Merry Christmas

Are you getting full stroke on the master Cylinder piston? Very important that you adjust the length of the pushrod between the vacuum booster and the master cylinder such that there is a small gap (forgot manual rec but think it is about .060) in the free state. Pain to measure accurately but it is critical to system performance. You may have mixed configurations which may not be compatible.

The license plate is worth $1,000! You get the car for nothing. Those seats with the early 70's retro, flower-child inserts could be sold to a museum in Pelosi's San Francisco district for another $500. She might even give you a waiver for ObamaCare if you ask. See you already made some cash for rust repair supplies.

Great looking seats if they fit without major modifications???? I too would be interested in the installation process and issues that surfaced. My old body could use some 2002 BMW comfort.

I also have retained that original manual and warranty service booklet and registration card.
  10. Would love to attend but gets kinda chilly in Knoxville when those leaves change color! Very ironic that in today's mail I received this colorful flyer from Southland Marketing & Development, Inc advertising "Norris Lakefront Liquidation" on Sat Oct 16th at 10 AM. Flyer advertises short sale prices. Prices range from $19,900 to $149,900 for lot with boat slip (really a 1 yr lease at privately owned maina) to 2,800 sq ft lakefront log home (actually a 18 wheeler dumping the pieces on the property for you to erect). Looks like very nice area and lake. Florida used to be the time-share and vacant property scam capitol of the world. I sense that this promotion may fall into a similar cateqgory. Is your "after party at home on Norris Lake" adjacent to this community?

Hi ThorZ, The Z you imported from the US is most likely labeled as a 1971 model even though it was manufactured in 1970 (does VIN tag say Dec, 1970) It is also born only 23 vehicles after my Series I 240Z. This a great site for historical and technical info on the early Z-cars.
  12. Blue Z with white stripes is a spectacular portrait! Can anybody compete Bill Coffey's edition out of Gainesville? I upgraded the stripe-thing on my blue Z about 2 years ago
  13. I run Falken ZE-502 195/65-14 on my 7" wide appliance aluminum mags bought in early '72. They fit, look and run fine. I also bought the Eagle caps to replace the original Appliance caps that had rust cancer from ID. None of the four caps were tight. I did have 2 that were slighltly loose to touch and I adjusted the radial fit by wrapping aluminum tape around the OD of the cap. The fix worked since none have ever fallen off.

  15. Dealer install air conditioning in the 1970's and into '71 was a total ripoff since it did not work for crap. I paid for the dealer installed system in Dec,'70 and it never worked right after delivery in '71. Car was back to the dealer maybe 5-6 times for them to fix it but they failed each time. I trashed the system out of frustration after dealing with 115 deg F temps in Mojave Desert in 1974. Yanked all the stuff and planted it it in the dumpster except for the York Compressor which I was going to return to Dealer's showroom floor. It does make a great boat anchor.

Hatch rust is common problem with 240Z's. My series I hatch had trailing edge cancer and body shops I consulted to repair said labor cost would be very high. Better find a replacement. I was lucky and found a Series II '72 hatch about 100 miles from my house and it was almost rust-free....... a rare find in this area. My old series I hatch with vertical defrosters is now resting peacefully in my attic ....... someday it may be worth some bucks for the purist that only wants original parts.
  17. Those York compressors make good boat anchors. No need to cool anything sitting on the sandy bottom. Keep 'em away from the Z's.
  18. I thought all Series II 240's had type "B" tranny's? ? ? Your VIN is a later '71 so it should have a type "B". Was it retrofit or is my assumption wrong?

Great personalized license plate ...... almost a short story! Looks like you made a great buy on a restored Series I. I envy the chrome on those bumpers. Nice wheels, tires and impressive engine with those Mikunis Another great looking Blue Z.................... Only negative is that eyesore, add-on mirror on the passenger side.
  20. I was at the auction Friday and took some photos of this 280Z in the staging area before they got in line for the stage. This Z had good looking paint at 20 feet but was far from original and did not deserve a big bucks bid. Simple things like the gas tank door not closing flush with the body and the rusty muffler / tailpipe were turn-offs. The advertised balanced and blueprinted engine could not be verifed but it certainly did not sound or look like a screamer. I agree that it probably was rear ended at some time. It sold for $6,250 plus 10% buyers premium = $6,875 + sales tax for the Governor.
  21. When you get done it should look like this:

I had similar problem with the aftermarket SST / rubber strips (made in Thailand). I attributed the problem to the retainers inside the strip .... some were pinched real tight. Also I think the supplier used a different material or heat treat since the spring rate on the V-shaped clip was verf high (stiff). I massaged the clips open on the bench slightly to get them to fit without destroying the strip during installation. I was not real happy with final result. That is the price you pay for buying aftermarket instead of the OEM Datsun parts ((NLA).

Did you carefully grind the staked portion of the nut with a dremel? That is the locking feature for early Z-cars. Nuts for later models have self-locking feature in nut.
  24. Somebody has totally scrambled the front end of your list. I corrected my VIN and engine s/n but it is listed again down the list with some other owner ....... I flagged same with NFG! Is there any way to make the list available on-line but have file "read-only"? All updates can be sent thru you to enter correctly or reject back to person that sent them.
