Picked up this New Sweetheart
Hi Donna, Your new purchase is a 1971 Series I 240Z if manufactured in Dec, 1970. It just happens to be a brother or sister of my 240Z which was born in the same month. Your Z was born 118 s/n's before my car which was delivered to Florida in Jan, 1971. My Z had the original paint until this past spring when I got tired of looking at door dings, road chips, etc. Mileage is 175,000 and it still runs strong with original engine which has never been rebuilt. Good luck on your new toy! It is a classic so take it out on the road and enjoy it.

How can I make repairs?
Car looks terrific after 23 years in moth balls! Exterior looks fantastic for a hangar queen; did you change the tires or just add air? Love your license plate! Weather in Wisconsin looks wose than lousy ...... spring is coming? I cannot answer your questions on frame rails but I am sure somebody on this site has the answer.

Z mecca u tube clip
Wow ..... a genuine Z-fanatic collector! Is the garage bigger than you house? I assume you drive these specimens occasionally ........ your insurance bill must be out-of-sight if you declare full value on each gem ......... even if you use Haggerty's. Was the building in place when hurricanes Jean and Francis whipped across the state in Sept, 2004? If so, any damage? What about Wilma in 2005 and others? Is it rated for 130+ winds? Does your friend Jim Osborn in Delray Beach also own a 240Z? Some day I will have to schedule trip to visit Z-mecca and some cousins up the road in Homosassa Springs.

2400 OHC Cam Cover Before & After a Refresh
Did you worry about getting media blast material stuck inside the baffle? I worried about the deteriorating stuff around the baffle and elected to remove baffle and get rid of all the sealer, retap holes and replace those microscopic screws and secure with locktite.l

MSA Twice pipes
Sound is great ...... hopefully the exhaust fumes did not get the best of you! The ticking noise sounds like a valve knock! When was the last time you checked clearnaces? If clearances are OK, check cam lobes for wear grooves.

Windshield
I replaced my Series I windshield (just old, not cracked or chipped) this spring with the tinted version. The tint is subtle and only at the top of the windshield. I paid $210 for the windshield plus installation from Glass America ..... I supplied new weatherstrip. Check on the web to see if they have office in your area. I do recommend using a seasoned expert to install the new glass. I do have an extra Precison weatherstrip which I would sell cheap if you are interested.

Colorado Custum's Wheel with AVS rubber
Uniquely different wheels for a Z? I kinda like the look. Can you share specifics on who makes them, model/style #, dia, width, offset, cost? Are they polished aluminum? Also like that blue on your Z! :cheeky:

Found this Series 1 while working at 12am!
Must have been a thing of the 70's ......... I had the exact same steering wheel wrap and color on my Series I in the 70's. Great early VIN find in NY ....... doesn't look bad considering it has been sleeping in the frozen tundra of the northeast. Good luck on your negotiations to buy this one. Are you located near Hopewell Junction or Lake Mahopac?

I'm Baaaaakk...
Welcome to the group! Congratulations on your success on the track. Your car looks structurally sound with the roll cage and all the other add-ons. Great photos of the build cycle. Did you paint the car in your garage?

Valve Adjusting
Here is a shot of my L24 block with head removed. Shows #1 cylinder with piston at TDC. Black areas are dykem I used to layout of potential contact point of exhaust valve with rim of block. I installed 35 mm exhaust valves on rebuild and experts recommend notching block for clearance (OEM valve size was 33 mm). That white stuff in cylinder #2 is shaving cream. I used it to entrap the metal filings from the notches I installed with a dremel. Clever suggestion and it worked ....... a tip from an old timer on the web. I do not remember any notches in pistons.

Installing sideview mirror
It is very difficult for one person to hold the mirror in place, put backing plate in position and then try to start the lockwasher and nut. Big, muscular, non-flexible arms and hands will not work. I just reinstalled the mirror but removed the glass to improve access to the area.

Valve Adjusting
Gus, First time I saw this thread about your issue with zero compression in cylinder #4. Those valve seat rings are tight fit in head ....... freeze them and press in. Sounds like your problem could be a dislodged valve seat. If you know somebody that has access to a borescope you could insert it and check out inside. When you are convinced that head must come off you can borrow my plastic device which i bought from MSA and is used to keep the timing chain in place on the crank pulley and chain tensioner. If you forget to use it you will need to pull the timing cover to get chain back in place. I had my head rebuilt by Bill DiCondino of Extreme Cylinder Heads in Palm City. He owned a small shop in 2002 and did fine job on my head rebuild with mild cam. Rebuild required replacement of all 12 valve seats. I have some of his business cards and believe he is still at same location because he ironically was a high school classmate of the guy who just painted my Z this spring. In 2002, Bill's business was focused on competition and exotic car heads and was not interested in doing routine stuff. He ain't cheap but does good work ..... but don't rush him .......my job took about 5 weeks. Working in your open air garage in July or August promotes weight loss thru sweat. Took me 3 weeks plus to put all the stuff back on my car after paint.

Best "performance" tire for a 70 240z
Dave Zs-ondabrain, I also have the 70's type Appliance slotted mags and am thinking of upgrading. Your 16" x 7" rims look awesome. Can you share what they are, where you bought them, cost, polished aluminum? P.S. - your headlight and parking lite harnesses are still working great in my 240Z.

window roller guide
Here's a shot of the old roller which shows the cutout in the door where the front side roller is installed. Note that this 37.5 year old roller is cracked thru the sheet metal at the front end. No photos of cutout in aft side.
