What are these wheels?
Agree with "2 fast 2Z" that they are Appliance Aluminum mags. I bought a set of (4) 14" dia x 7.0" wide in Orlando, FL in late 1971 for $150. Still using the same set today after 175,000+ miles.

Who has owned their Z the longest?
38 years 11 months ........... original owner! 176,000 miles on original engine; lower end never touched but did replace camshaft, valves, etc Car turned 39 years old this month since it was made in Dec, 1970 but I took delivery in Jan, 1971.

Bill Coffey's Dream Garage Party
Looks like great event with one-of-a-kind cars ..... posted pictures are terrific. You obviously have a large piece of property to accomodate the influx of cars. Do you warn or bribe your neighbors prior to event to keep peace? I still admire the Bill Coffey #2 Blue / White 240Z previously seen in Orlando. The first repaint of my 240Z was done last spring and my stripes were added similar to your design. I used 2007 350Z Daytona Blue with Lexus white.

Wish I could be there but it is long drive from my current residence. Angeles Crest & Angeles Forest Highways are terrific rides for a Z! I travelled these roads many times in 1974 taking shortcut from Palmdale to Dodger Stadium. Here's a 35 year old photo taken from one of those trips:

REDDAT is a deceptive crook based on my limited dealings with him: 1) Parts he labeled as "Nissan NOS" werte actually after market items made in Thailand 2) Most of his prices are way higher than what you would pay at a Nissan Dealer 3) He never advertises shipping & handling costs and if you buy without asking he will screw you with outrageous charges, some that may exceed the cost of the item. 4) He is responsive in E-mails but sometimes does not tell the truth about what he is selling

If you have the original camshaft with oil spray bar I suggest you check the integrity of the rear cantilevered bar. If it is loose / broke you may have done damage to the corresponding rocker arms / cam lobes which will create an annoying tick.

Valve Adjusting
Putting all that stuff back together without finding the root cause of zero compression will be utterly frustrating if the problem returns! Great hands-on experinece but if you are time-limited you may be better off pulling the head and have some knowledgeable machinist check out your head for issues. You may have a "sticky-valve" syndrome that others have mentioned that can eject lash pads?? Only other thought is to check the intake and exhaust valve springs on that dead cylinder to insure they are not broken or have hairline cracks that will impact the amount of force they generate when compressed? Pulling head requires removal of timing chain sprocket from cam and you must shim the chain with that special shaped piece of plastic to insure the chain tensioner does not pop( you can borrow the one I have). If it does you will need to pull the front cover. If your racing buddies don't have a trustworthy machinist you might consider Bill DiCondino who owns Extreme Cylinder Heads in Palm City. He did great job on my head but he is not cheap and don't be in a hurry.

cam oil rail loose
Common failure for the oil spray bar. Same failure on my '71 on the cantilevered section for the #6 cylinder. The braze joint on the factory bars was the weak link. Damage to cam and rockers is probable depending on how long and hard the engine was run after the failure. My failure caused big wear groove in cam lobe. The groove caused horrible ticking noise that I tolerated for a long time. Fix was to replace the camshaft and rockers.

Mystery 71 240Z brake issue
The brake system should be set up with a small (.030-.050) gap between the brake pushrod and the piston in the master cylinder. If you have lotsa pedal travel and no resistance you are not moving the piston in the master cylinder. You may be missing the reaction disc in booster as Enigma suggested or you are victim of mismatch due to different length adjustable pushrods. Pull the stuff apart and take some precise measurements to calculate what gap you have in free state. I have seen at least two pushrods of different overall lengths in parts supposedly good for '71's.

Shipping / handling crook! He should be banned form E-Bay or be required to post a rate or shipper site that bidder can estimate cost. He sold me a part made in Thailand that was advertised as NOS.

Barret Jackson Palm Beach...Watching?
I attended the auction on Friday ..... very crowded compared to previous years. Prices are measurably lower than previous years. On Friday there was #371 a 1965 Austin Healy 3000 Mark III in California Sage restored by Kurt Tanner Restorations. Buyer won with $100,000 bid and then paid another $10,000 (10%) buyers premium. The top sale on Friday was #369.1 - a 1969 Chev Camaro RS/SS powered by Corvette LS7 427. Car was sponsored by Super Chevy magazine and built by Rte 66 Motorsports in New Lenox, Il. Parts were donated by companies in US. Effort was in support of "Project American Heroes" a charity helping disabled veterans returning from Iraq / Afgan wars. The winning bid was $500,000 made by an elderly gentleman wearing a white baseball hat with two young, gorgeous, chesty blonds at his side, one on each arm. His check goes direct to the charity and BJ even waived their 10% selling fee which would have been $50,000. The other highlite of the show was an estimated 50-60 GM one of a kind cars that were pulled from one of their warehouses in Michigan. Many of these were special editions made for car shows, pace cars, etc. Registration for road use may be difficult depending on state you live in since most did not have valid VIN #'s and all were sold with "scrap" titles. GM is on the fringe of bankruptcy so I guess they had to sell some cars to pay for the CEO's severance package after being fired by Obama.
