Could someone tell me where the wire from the bcdd is supposed to go to? Where is that wire located and what color would it be? The previous owner had it running to one of the black wires for the temperature switch(?)(facing the front of the engine the switch to the right of the temp sensor. Has two black wires connected to it.).He also had that black wire disconnected from that switch. Any help would be appreciated.
  2. We finally got some decent weather, so I bought new ngk plugs,(for both of my z's) put them in, cleaned all of the connections you guys mentioned, found that the wiring was a little mixed up for the temperature switch, and the ballast resistor by the coil wasn't grounded(helps to have another z to compare with). I took it for a ride, and it runs really good. Only a slight stumble when you first give it gas. The only thing that isn't working is the boost decelerator. I'll have to look a little closer at the wiring I guess. Atleast I made it home this time. Thanks for everyone's advice. Hope this helps someone else, since this seems like a common problem with the 280z.

  4. This may sound stupid, but make sure if you changed any fuel lines, that you used FI hoses and clamps. Last Nov. when I bought my '78 280z, I changed all the fuel lines, even the 2" ones at the injectors, and I just went and picked up a package of fuel lines and regular clamps not thinking:stupid:,put them all on, took it for an hour ride, till it got warmed up, floored it on an on ramp, and it started to cut out, then shut off. Same symptoms as you had. I happened to read the package for the fuel line, and it said "for carb use only". :tapemouth . Turned out it was actually sucking the soft lines shut cutting off the fuel, and making bad fumes, like it was flooded. I replaced all the lines, and it ran good. I guess anything's possible.
  5. I am looking for a carb body for my weber 40 dcoe 151, and was wondering what other model number carb would have the same body as mine. I bought two on ebay, but after I got them, I realized they are different than mine. My 151 carb has a white cap on both sides near the mixture screws that cover a jet of some sort( air correction?). Any info would be helpful. THANKS, JEFF
  6. Thanks to everyone for your input. If I can't figure it out now, I better sell all of my tools, and build a glass garage around my Z and just look at it(yeah , rightLOL). As soon as I get a decent day above 30 degrees, I'll try some of these things out and let you know what I find. Thanks again.
  7. Thanks for all the good advice. I've only owned the car since Thanksgiving, but here is a list of things I've done so far to the engine: Changed the cap, rotor, plug wires, changed all vacuum lines on engine one at a time (didn't check under dash yet), replaced all fuel lines including between rail and injectors, with FI hose and clamps, and fuel filter. I put new spark plugs in (champion plat.) But it flooded out once before and fouled them out, so I put the old ones back in (they looked pretty new). They were Bosch Platinums. I've read a few threads about the Bosch's not working good in L28's. Could this have something to do with the engine missing? I appreciate everyone's advice.
  8. As a matter of fact, I just bought a set of those injector connectors last week , but haven't had time to install them yet. The old ones are missing a few metal clips that hold them on. I'm probably going to get new connecors for the water temp. sensor, and the thermotime switch also. I'll have to give that some attention when I get a chance. Thanks for the input. Any suggestions are appreciated.
  9. Thanks, I'll give that a try, and let you know.
  10. It was in the 50's today, so I decided to take my new 78 280z 2+2 for a ride, and had some problems. When I start it it idles rough, (sounds like it has a big cam in it. ) but when I rev it , there is a slight stumble at first, then it revs smoothly, and runs pretty good. I drove it for about a half hour, and I stopped at Burger King, went through the drive thru, sat for 10 minutes with it running (idling rough) , and decided to shut it off. Sat for 5 more minutes to eat, and tried to start it back up, and it acted like it was flooded. I tried starting until the battery died. Walked to the Firestone dealer (3/4 mile), they wouldn't help me, so I walked to Sears (another mile), and borrowed their booster, walked back to the car(1/2 mile), and it cranked right over, but idled rougher, and accelerated very roughly. It ran rough for about 5 miles, but started to run smooth like someone flipped a switch on it. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Tried searching, but didn't find what I was looking for. THANKS

Does anyone know if a 79 280zx heatercore will work in a 78 280z? I have the heater core out of my parts car. ( I already had the dash out of it anyway). The older z's are still a little new to me. I'm a little more familiar with the zx's.
