  1. Thanks for the info. Seems odd that it came with a/c, but no power steering. I had an 82 s-10 pickup that had power windows, but no power steering or brakes from the factory, so I guess this was common back then.
  2. Would the oil pressure sending unit off of a 280zx work on a 78 280z 2+2?
  3. I just bought a 78 280z 2+2, and it has manual steering. I have two 280zx parts cars and was wondering if it would be possible to swap the power steering to the 280z? Did the 280z ever come with power steering at all? What parts would I have to swap if this is even possible?
  4. Thanks, I'll check them out.
  5. I just bought a 78 280z 2+2 locally for $1300. The interior is in pretty good shape. The chrome and woodgrain trim on the door panels have lost their chrome, and I was wondering if anyone knows where I could get a set of trim for them, if they are even available? Any help would be appreciated. THANKS
  6. I just bought a 78 280z 2+2 that is in good condition. The previous owner repainted it, and he told me that he thinks he put some of the emblems in the wrong place. Could anyone show me where the correct locations are? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the advice.
  8. This is the best Z-site around. I appreciate all the advice. I work on my 280zx whenever I get a chance, doing a little bit each day. I'm planning on having more time and money to work with next summer, so I'll use alot of this info and hopefully make one heck of a Z. THANKS.
  9. I have a '79 280zx, and 2 parts cars, an automatic '82, and a '79 5-speed with a newer engine in it. I was wondering how I can determine what rear end gear ratio these cars have, and how to tell if they are R-180, or R-200 diffs. Is there a certain difference between them that you can see? Can I tell by the color of the speedo gear on the tranny? Did certain years have certain ones? Any help would be appreciated. I tried to search but couldn't find much.
  10. I'm putting the bumpers off of my '82 280zx parts car on my '79. When I took the rear bumper off, the four bolts were pretty rusted up, so I took it off with the shock brackets attached, figuring I could clean the bolts up with a dremel wire wheel. I cleaned them, but it didn't help much, and I sprayed them several times with pb blaster, but I still broke off four of the 8 bolts. I thought about drilling a hole behind each bolt to get access to them, but I figured I should ask the experts first. Is there and good way to replace these bolts? The rest of the bumper is in very good shape, so I hate to scrap it. My '79 ones are shot, but the shock mounts are real nice. The mounts on the '82 are bent and rusted, or else I would have used them.

I am finally pulling the engine out of my 280zx parts car and am getting ready to rebuild it. The block is an F-54, and I'm putting the N-47 head on it off of my '79 zx. As you may have read in my other threads, I,m converting to triple weber 40 dcoe's . When I buy the gaskets, should I buy a whole kit for a 240z, or do I have to buy a 280zx kit and buy a seperate intake manifold gasket for a carburated model. What brand would you recommend. Is there any other gaskets that will be needed. I think the MSA header came with its own exhaust manifold gasket, but I can't remember if it was for the intake and exhaust, or it was just the exhaust section. Thanks for the help.
  12. Yes, it says Tipo 40 dcoe 151 on the top cover just below the wing nut cover.
  13. Thanks for the advice. Rough idle doesn't really bother me that much. This car won't be a daily driver. There are alot of winding mountain roads in my area that are fun to fly up and down. I'd take more power over smooth idle any day. I have my F54 block ready to pull out of my parts car, and have an engine stand ready. I'm not sure what diffs I have, I'll have to check into that. I've been taking the bumpers off and doing some bodywork the last few days when I get time. I got the paint last Friday. The one parts car was owned by an autoshop teacher in virginia. It's an F54 in a 79 zx,so I'm not sure what all was done with this motor. It came with a xenon front bumper, and custom moulded fiberglass wing and ground effects that were made by this teacher.
  14. Thanks for the help. I'm going to start working on my engine in the next few weeks. I took the front bumper off Friday and am going to take the one off of my parts car this week some time . I was inspecting the rust on the frame in the front. It doesn't look too bad. It won't take too much to fix. As soon as I get a clutch kit. I'll probably put that and my aluminum flywheel on so I can get it inspected, and drive it a little bit. I've never driven it with a good clutch yet, but it still had decent power with the worn out one. It was slipping badly the last time I drove it, so that is next on my long list.
  15. I am changing from FI to triple webers on my 79 280zx, and was wondering how I was going to modify the wiring harness from the FI. Can I eliminate the wiring for the fuel injection, and ecu all together? What wiring would I have to keep to make this work. Would it be simpler just to get an aftermarket wiring harness like Painless wiring, or should I just cut the stock harness up? What would you guys recommend? THANKS
  16. I have a 79 280zx, and two parts cars, a 79 and an 82. I took both front bumpers off the 79's figuring I could make one good one out of two, but after I took them apart I realized they are both shot. Will the front and rear plastic bumpers off of my 82 fit on to my 79? What modifications would I need to make them work? If not where can I get a front bumper for the 79? THANKS
  17. I have a 1979 280zx, and two parts cars, a 79 and an 82. I took both 79 bumpers off figuring I could make one good one out of the two, but after taking them apart, I found out they are both shot. My 82 parts car has the all plastic bumpers front and rear. Would I be able to use these bumpers on my 79? What modifications would be needed? If not, does anyone know where I could get a front bumper for the 79? THANKS
  18. On my 79 280zx, I have a msa header, high flow cat, and a custom stainless 2 3/4" piping, with a Magnaflow exhaust. It is pretty loud when you get on it, but it has a good sound to it. Especially when you drop it down into 3rd gear coming down a steep hill. Everyone seems to stare to see whats coming down the road. Right now my motor is pretty much stock, just with a cold air induction on it. Just make sure you have a good stereo system if the excess noise bugs you!
  19. My stock engine runs good with the fuel injection, but with the domed pistons, it just doesn't have the power down low, I thought about a turbo kit, but since I got the weber setup so cheap, I figured I'd go that route. I realize it will probably cost a little more to set up, but I already have most of what I will need, and I almost have my 98 240sx paid off, so I'll have a little more $ to work with soon.
  20. I thought about that route, but I already have most of the parts I need for the conversion, so I may as well try the webers. It should be a fun project, since I never messed with carbs much. I have two s-14 240sx's I've been tuning for the last several years, so this will be a new experience for me.
  21. I live 10 miles away from where flight 93 went down on 9/11, just east of Johnstown, PA. I'm trying to have it ready by the end of summer hopefully, and I would appreciate it if you would help me set the jetting. That is another area where I will be needing help with, since I never messed with carbs before. I have been tuning my late model 240sx's for the last few years, and I thought I'd try something different. I got the weber setup for $200 off of a local wrecked 280z, so the price was right. All I need to get is a fuel pump,a linkage kit,the clutch, and some air cleaners. I'm planning on pulling the motors in the next month or so.The f-54 is on my parts car, and I'll be using the n-47 head off of my origional motor. Thanks for all the advice. When I get it ready to run, I'll have to let you know, and maybe we can set something up. THANKS
  22. I am changing my 79 280zx fuel injection to a triple weber 40 dcoe carb system. My setup will be as follows: F-54 block, N-47 head, stock flattop pistons, triple weber 40 dcoe 151 series carbs, motorsport header, 3"custom exhaust system, magnaflow muffler,ACT street clutch, extreme pressure plate,Fidanza aluminum flywheel. I want to upgrade the cam, and valvetrain, and I wondered if anyone has any suggestions on what brand, and size would be the best for my setup. I would like to keep a fairly smooth idle if possible, and keep a fairly broad powerband, since my car will be a street machine, mostly on weekends. Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS
  23. Thanks for the advice. I'll try a bigger cam, Any recommendations as to what brand I should consider?
  24. Would the 500/300 cam have a real rough idle, I would like to keep a fairly smooth idle if possible. I will be driving this car occasionally on the streets, probably on weekends mostly. I never really entered any road races or any thing like that, not saying I wouldn't like to in the future.
