Starter Problem?
When you start the car the starter solenoid pulls in which throws the starter drive gear out to mesh with the flywheel, as this meshing of the two gears happens the second purpose for the starter being there happens. Bolted to the back of the rod that gets puulled into the solenoid is a 3mm thick piece of copper that makes contact with the positive and earth of the motor, which makes a large spark and consequently wears away the copper plate at the negative (or earth) side of the plate. This is the most common reason for a starter to stop rotating. Alan.

Extractors!
Hi Ross, The extractors look fine and i'll take your word on the condition of the Buckets. How does $50 dolars sound for the Buckets? Let me know. You can e-mail me at, apugh@comshop.com.au and we can confirm all the details. Transport won't be a problem for me as I have trucks going all over Australia every week for work. Wait to hear from you. Alan.

260Z parts Car
Hi Z Kid, How much do you want for the two 2+2 doors, I'm not in Adelaide but I can organize transport no worries, also the chrome trims around the rear lights if you have them in reasonable condition. Thanks Alan.

Hitachi Carbys
This is only my opinion and i'm sure that a lot of people will disregard what I say but the inline six with a firing order of 153624 doesn't lend itself to triple setups of SU type carbs because the atomisation of the air fuel mixture for cylinders 3&4 is not the same as for 1&2 and 5&6 which means the middle of your engine is not performing as well as each end. This is a very simple explanation which can be gone into in much detail but we dont have the room. Triple setups should be of the webber type carbies to avoid this intake pulse problem. Al.

Cleaning tail light lens
If you have washed the whole assembly, which i'm sure you have you will notice a yellowish or white line of hard adhesive like stuff ( for want of a better word ) where the lens joins the plastic. You have to remove this with a very thin sharp tool, I use a small screwdriver sharpened on the bench grinder. There is a small step on the bottom of the lens which you will see when you get started on this very tedious job. Patience is the key to success here.Once you have removed all this hopefully after thirty years the remaining glue will give up it's hold on the bottom of the lens. Mine took me all day one Saturday to do but it is well worth the effort. As for cleaning the plastic I have found Brasso does the best job of everything. Remember PATIENCE is the key. Good luck, Hope this helps. Al.

badges
In aus not all cars had the hood emblem but could be added if desired. Front fenders have 260z on lower portion, the two round badges behind the quarters with Z inside, and on the tailgate there should be Datsun badge on drivers side (RH) and trans type on left side, either Full Automatic or 5 Speed. Hope this helps, Al.

Introduce yourself to the class?
Hello all, I'm a relative newcomer to this site so after reading all your replies I thought I should tell you all a bit about myself. I live in Melbourne Australia, I wish I was 33 too, but i'll have to live with 41. Married for 16 years with 1 eleven year old boy. I work for a Shopfitting company as a Project Manager fitting out supermarkets Australia wide. ( Too much travelling. ) My 260 2+2 is on a home made rottiserie at the moment and I am slowly but surely cutting all the rust out of her, so I can get her painted and start putting her back together. Hopefully one day I can post a finished photo. Catch Ya

The project
I paid $500 for my 260 2+2 in Australia ( that's about $250 in the US ) and it is in pretty much the same condition. Mine has less internal rust but a lot more exterior rust. At least you guys in the States have, from what I can tell from here anyway, fairly easy access to parts. I hope yours turns out the way you want it to. I just keep pluggin away at mine and hope one day it will be finished. Are they ever finished! Al.
