Introduction
Hi. My name is Jeff. Married for the 2nd time, one daughter, one step son. Bought my first 72 in 1975. White with red interior. Had it repainted to mimic Bob Sharp's. Also had Bob Sharp's suspension with Datsun competition headers. Had to junk it, Cleveland weather ate it up. Bought another 72 in Arizona in 1988. Originally from Hawaii. Brown metallic with butterscotch interior. I am in the process of restifying it. Had the front fenders sandblasted and stripped the inner fender whells. No rust! Will use POR-15 this weekend to seal for life(?). Looking for a 280 engine and 5 speed. Have the rear suspension apart and getting ready to have sand blasted. Used this car for autocross in 89' and won my class. It was basically stock with Comp T/A racing tires.

chassis paint colors
After reading replies to my first post, I have decided to go with the POR-15 Black on the inner fender wells. I have the right front fender off now and went to town with a wire wheel. Found a lot of accumulated dirt behind the splash shield and on top of the upper fender support. Surprisingly only minor surface rust that came right off. Same holds true for the underside of the fender. I guess I got lucky and won't have a lot of metal repair. (So far) Thanks for your input.

I need a passenger side rear inner quarter panel, butterscotch in color. I have two original red (burgundy) sun visors in vgc for trade. E-mail me if interested.

Are these rims datsun rims, they are cool
Interesting reading. I have Shelby Libra wheels on mine. I also picked up a set of stock steel wheels and hubcaps for nostalgia's sake.

Paint Color
My first ride was in a 71 Burnt Orange Z. A friend took me for a quick ride in the country. We were going down an asphalt 2 lane road with a kid on a motor scooter in the left lane a few hundred yards ahead of us. He was going in the same direction as we were. As we were about to pass him on the right, my friend tooted his horn as a warning and the kid cut in front of us. To avoid him, we cut to the right into a ditch and the car rolled over and landed on all 4 tires. Luckily we both had our seat belts on and neither of us was injured, other than the glass that blew out the side window shreded my right elbow. I had to have one a bought a used 72 shortly there after. That was in 1975.

Expansion tank bypass
I just dropped my tank and found most of the hoses were hard and splitting. The hoses routed through the floor and behind the taillight panel had a splice in it (hose clamp, tubing, hose clamp). I called a few Z car parts places and almost died when I heard the prices. I was talking this over with a friend at work and he suggested trying a Marine supply store. I picked up the larger hoses that are Coast Guard fuel rated and got the smaller diameter hoses at NAPA. I am going to use a plumbing 90 degree elbow for the one bend near the expansion tank. While I had the tank removed I used POR-15 fuel tank repair kit and cleaned, etched and sealed it for $50.00.

chassis paint colors
I am in the process of cleaning up my Z after a 12 year "nap". I am planning on pulling the fenders and painting the undersides. I am using black POR-15 on the frame and bottom of the floorpan but am undecided as to what color to paint the inner fenderwells. Any input would be appreciated.
