240Z in movies
I was thumbing thru the channels the other day. On ESPN Classic, a movie called "One on One" with non other than Robbie Benson (remember him). He was a midwest high school basketball player recruited by a Los Angeles college basketball team. Recruiter promises him whatever car he wanted. Next scene shows him pulling out of his driveway in a red 280Z. The scenes of him driving to LA must have lasted at least a couple of minutes. Pretty awesome.

Vin #'s
This has been a great site for info. Bought my first Z (early 260) back in March, and enjoying every moment. Had a question about the VIN #. Mine is RLS30 - 000120 I understand R = L26, L = left hand drive, and S30 = car model....but does the 120 stand for the production #. Sounds logical, but just not sure.

What year Zcar do you own?
Hey, mine is a 74 260z. I know the 240's are the most coveted, but you gotta love any old z car...right? Anybody out there with me on this?

Water Pump
Just ordered water pump for my '74 260z, as mine needs replacing. Looks fairly simple. Anybody out there have any insight on replacing this? Any horror stories? Is it as easy as it looks? Thanks all!

Radio issues
Thanks all...after a little convincing, and help from you all, got the Alpine radio installed. Sounds great.

Radio issues
Also, I checked out www.crutchfield.com. Website sells car audio via web. Allows you to filter which radio units fit any particular car. Once I plugged in all data concerning my Z, it came back with only one model...a Sanyo AM-FM Cassette player. This is where I am stumped. All over the web, I see older Z cars with all sorts of different radio's installed???

Radio issues
Installer is saying that the depth of the radio can't exceed 4.75 inches. He is saying the rear of the console won't allow anything over this. Alpine radio is about 7 inches deep. He is saying the face of the radio would stick out towards the stick shift.

Radio issues
My '74Z has original push button AM-FM radio. I have taken to local radio installation shop, CARTOYS, for new radio for new and better sound, but they tell me that the depth of the original radio is only about 4.75 inches deep. New radios now are much deeper than this. Looks like new radio with CD player is out of the question, but does anybody have any input on possible AM/FM - Cassette radio that might fit this. Installer is perplexed as am I. Had nice Alpine radio picked out, but won't fit. Thanks for your help.

Best oil and grade to use
Hello all. My 260Z has 143k miles. I live in Houston. Soon to get very hot with summer approaching. I just bought my Z two months ago....looking at getting the oil changed soon. Can you suggest brand and grade of oil to use? Engine is original except for 2 Weber carbs. Thanks for your help.

Question about original speakers
Everything on my 260z is original, but the speakers sound bad. Looking at replacing but not sure what size I need. Also, went to local radio shop, and since they haven't seen many old Z cars, they don't know either. Also, they are concerned about breaking/cracking the interior panels to get to the speakers. The location of speakers are the ones directly above strut housing. I think speakers are 4" but not sure. Also, can anybody tell me if an aftermarket radio kit is available for a 260? Thanks!

New to site
Thanks...I'll let you know on the parts. I am just getting familiar with the car. I know I will need to upgrade on some things. Just a matter of priority right now...that is, what really needs to go or stay on the car.

Guy lived in Jamestown, KS...had the car listed on THEBIGLOT.com. I purchased a one-way ticket to Wichita, where he met me. Turned the cash over to him and never looked back.
