Interestingly, in 40 years, I'm only 7% heavier, but 40% lighter in the hair department. Bonzi Lon

While in the paint shop a guy delivering parts asked if it was a 260 or 280, I told him it was a 240. He said he had never heard of that one. Bonzi Lon
  3. As a teenager I would pit crew for a small town drag racer where the winner got some cash and trophies to the runners up. He always had a saying about that, "It takes he++ of a lot of salt & pepper to make those trophies taste good." I've never forgot it. I know car shows do not give out cash, but the statement still holds true. Its all for fun and the love of being there. Sometimes you meet someone famous which makes it all that more special than winning something that sits on the shelf and collects dust. My drag racer's wife HATED all those trophies because OF the dust. The 2 trophies I have won so far are now covered in dust, no wife to complain though. hehe Bonzi Lon
  4. After my guy finished up on the complete exhaust system I gave him a ride, he was very impressed. Now anytime I go into his shop he is right there with "what can i do for you today", no matter what he is doing. Bonzi Lon
  5. Everything Blue mentioned is in the video. Best money for my Z and brain I've ever spent. Bonzi Lon
  6. I chose the blue NGK's because they matched the paint color. Bonzi Lon
  7. My garage is about the same size, with a 10X40 back room. It is big enough to fit 8 Z-cars without any room for benches, or 2 '59' Cadillac's with barely enough room for a bench. Bonzi Lon
  8. I spent many hours trimming & filing to get them to fit the bucket properly. The magnets were only an experiment because I did not want to put any holes in the buckets. The experiment worked very well. If you see me at a show ask about some magnets, I have given lots of them away. One is always on the oil drain plug, trans & diff are already magnetized. Bonzi Lon

I taped a silver Sharpie to the inside of my glove box just before leaving for Z-Con10, just in case someone 'special' came near my car. Sure enough, to my surprise, Mr. Matsuo came to my car and examined it, he really liked the color, and happily signed the inside of my glove box door. I was still shaking 5 minutes later. Bonzi Lon
  10. My covers are held on by 3 'very strong' magnets, (unknown composition) but are for show only, not intended for the road. After one show I was 30 miles away doing at least 70mph when i realized I forgot to take them off, pulled over and to my surprise they were still on. Each magnet is 1/2 x 3/8 x 1/4 inch, with a piece of rubber glued on to prevent scratching the paint on the metal buckets. My avitar shows them with no visible means of attachment. I painted them black because they were crazed from sitting on the shelf for 28+ years. Bonzi Lon

Shouldn't it have the 'Scarab' valve covers? Bonzi Lon
  14. Were you aware that there is ( should be ) a small brass screen filter in each of the banjo bolts on the lid of each carb? If not, remove the lid, take the banjo bolt out, there are the screens. Inspect & clean. Bonzi Lon
  15. A very good program that shows the process of this is Modern Marvels "Chrome". The parts I could recognize what they were was the grills of Ford trucks. Bonzi Lon
  16. The headers on my car, ca 1980, have a piece of round metal tacked to them for this purpose, it is in the upper left by the braided hose. I don't use it and never took it off, but will when the headers get coated. Bonzi Lon
  17. This might be the very reason I have this spook still hanging on my garage wall for the past 32 years. Hmmm... Bonzi Lon
  18. Congratulations on your anniversary and a birthday present to boot. I had my 35th this past June, but not an original owner. I get some great reactions when I tell them it was my 'college car'. Bonzi Lon
  19. It is my understanding it is like a sealing wax, needs to be heated well above engine temp to become plyable or melt. It is what holds the baffle & PCV tube in place. Bonzi Lon
  20. Well let me tell how it used to be in the old days... There was no electronic fuel injection or computers of any kind in cars. Cars had carburetors and chokes. When you first started your cold carbureted car, it ran "OK" if you were lucky, and "poorly" if you weren't. If you were lucky, you could let it sit at high idle for a minute or so to warm up before you went off down the road, and if you weren't lucky, you had to sit there for a minute and nurse it to keep it running. Then once it was running well enough that you felt confident that you could pull out into traffic without stalling in front of someone, you could get moving on your way. As you put a few miles behind you and the engine continued to warm up, it gradually got better and better until it ran "good". This is the exact same routine I went through in the winters of 77 to 79 in order to get to college class on time, 73 with flat tops. Bonzi Lon
  21. After driving my car about 3K miles, I couldn't stand the noise at about 2200 to 2700 RPM. Took it to a Mom & Pop shop, replaced from the header back with 2 1/4" pipe, placing a resonator in the center and a round muffler in back. The muffler was originally for a small tractor, 16 X 6 with center in & out finished off with a chrome tip 2 inches further than the bumper. Bonzi Lon

When I bought my car in 77 it also had an after market AM-FM 8-Track 'Craig PowerPlay' with 'Jenson' 6X9's in the tail finisher. The up-down switch had been moved to the inside of the glove box on the left side lip. I had no idea what it was for until a friend was playing with it and the radio was fading out then back in. I thought that was a cool 'hidden' feature for the car. We never wore seat belts back then, so the reach was no problem, unlike now. Bonzi Lon

A well experienced Datsun mechanic has always said, "If you can stop the fan at idle with a 'TV Guide', the clutch is not working." I would assume any magazine you didn't like would work. Bonzi Lon

I was told by the State of Kansas it 'must of been a legally issued tag', they require a photo copy of the plate being used before the plate is given an OK. The company offering the repo plates above have the wrong color for the 73 Kansas plate. Bonzi Lon
