Over the 38 years of ownership, all of the hoses have been changed out with OEM and after market several times. It is interesting to note that all the hoses & fittings are the same, it is just the length that makes them having different part numbers. The rear hoses are 260mm long, the clutch hose is 250mm long, and the front hoses are 240mm long. That is about 3/4 of an inch difference, so in theory can be used on any of three places. Have one hanging as a spare, just in case. Bonzi Lon
  2. There are enough of us near Podunk, Kansas that together we could get you back on the road, one way or another. Bonzi Lon
  3. I remember it like it was yesterday. February of 1982 after a 12+ hour flight, very little sleep, I was given my first taste of Kona coffee and fresh pineapple. OMG!!! Black as tar and smooth as silk with a nutty buttery aftertaste. I was hooked. Very hard and expensive in the mainland, but worth every dollar. When anyone mentions Hawaii, I think of Kona coffee and pineapple. Bonzi Lon

Yep, GTR's do that to some people. The first year they came out a gentelman had one at the Branson Z-Fest and was giving spirited rides. The owner said that one lady was given a ride & she left a wet spot on the seat. Now that's a RIDE. Bonzi Lon

I've used cut up pieces of a truck tire innertube for rubber that is used to isolate two metal parts. Bonzi Lon

For those that are unfamilar with the Jaguar XKE Wagon above: It was a custom made prop for the quirkie cult film "Harold and Maude", staring Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon. One of Ruth Gordon's finest performances. Its on my top 10 list. Bonzi Lon

Part number for the O-Ring is 17342-18000. Bonzi Lon
  8. The fuse holder is a clip that is part of the lid of the fuse box, mine is on the right side of the lid. One end is used to lever out the fuse, the other end is for installing a new fuse, for guys with large fingers. Bonzi Lon
  9. My 73 has the fuse puller. Didn't know it was there or what it was for for about 30 years of ownership. Only found out when a thread appeared on another Z site. Now I have to go look to see if I have the holes for spare fuses. Bonzi Lon

Titanium is not magnetic, it is a non ferrous metal. Some stainless steel will not hold a magnet due to its high chrome content. Bonzi Lon

  13. The very end of the return line has a smaller hole in it which will reduce flow and increase pressure to the required amount ay the carbs. Look at the end of the stock line and you will see the smaller hole. It has been said many times not to make any changes to that end, ie: reaming it out to increase flow which will reduce back pressure to the carbs. Hope this helps. Bonzi Lon

My notes indicate for the proper head size the bolts should be 'JIS for proper head size', the DIN spec has larger head size. I also have run into this problem when finding bolts for the hold down hooks on the rear of my Z, larger than the originals, same thread size & pitch, just a bigger head, hard to get a wrench in there. 15. Just a guess. Maybe they tightened all the nuts and bolts while the car was in the air with the suspention hanging, instead of on the ground in the running position. Just a guess. Bonzi Lon

Kansas also has the 'year of manufacture' for plates. I somehow found a friend that had a 73 plate from my county and it turned out it was at one time on the 69 Buick that I T-boned on my Harley that nearly took my left leg off at the knee. I am very proud of that plate. Bonzi Lon

While in college in the mid seventies, I regularly had 3 young ladies and myself in the car. The smallest one was folded up and put in the hatch area, the other two shared a seat & console. What fun college was. Bonzi Lon

And all this time I've seen the hang ring, I thought it was for pulling you out of the ditch when over steering. The bull scrotum is popular around here also. Some guys will weld very large lug nuts to a chain to hang off the back end. Nuts of steel. Bonzi Lon

It is a red reflective plastic, like a reflector on a bicycle, with the 'Z' imbedded. The ones on my 73 were faded to an almost orange color when I did a refurbishment on them. I also painted the red to blue to match the color of the car. At the time new old stock ones were insanely expensive. I also left the inside scollops chrome instead of grey, balances the grey/chrome effect. Bonzi Lon
  23. I found out there were two ways to clamp the cables when I noticed that one carb was a 4 screw and one was a 3 screw put on by the dealership in 1980. I switched out both of those carbs for a pair of 4 screw in 2010. Thats when I noticed both were different. It was a real head scratcher for a while. Lucky I had a parts bin that had a spare in it. My 7-73 has the 'rubber across the hump', a replacement could not be found during the refurbishment, just cleaned up the old one. California would be the best place to start looking for a 'rust free' Z, one that you can see in person. Bonzi Lon
  25. It was a suggestion that did not include wallet drain, high heat, sparks or flames. Bonzi Lon
