240z Seat Strapping
This is what the under side of the seats in #110 look like. I put them in my blue one and I felt like I was sitting on the floor. If I put my arm out the window my elbow was above my ears. Bonzi Lon

Midwest Z Fest 2009 in Colorado Sept 10-13
This is great news! You can count on cousin David and I will be there. My daughter and granddaughter live there also so will make it a family event. Garagegoon, maybe we can all go out together. I like taking the back roads through all of the small towns, more exposure to the public. I went by a school yard last year and an 8 year old boy yelled out, "Cool car Mr., lay a scratch". Bonzi Lon

Series 1 Engine Paint Plan - Details Please
26th-Z said, "The adjustment arm to hold the alternator is blue." I can confirm this. The arm and alt. on mine was replaced in 1980 during the engine rebuild. It is blue, has the part number sticker and my name and date taped to it. The new alt. has the cad plate pully and fan blades. Bonzi Lon

Anybody looking for a winter project?
Just to yank on his chain a little, I'd write him back and say, 'You'll get my 4 digit bid when I get the 3 digit VIN.' Bonzi Lon

Dupli-color interior paint = TERRIBLE!
The laquer thinner worked better than anything else I tried. All of the plastic and vinyl had 26 year old overspray primer every where. Just took lots of time cleaning small areas at a time and not getting it too wet and changing cloths often. Just make sure there is no way for combustion and plenty of ventliation so you won't get as HIGH as I did the first half hour. Bonzi Lon

Dupli-color interior paint = TERRIBLE!
I cleaned my panels throughly with laquer thinner first. When the white cotton T-shirt got discolored I got another clean one. Bonzi Lon

Put on the back burner... :(
Mine sat for 26 years in the same spot. There is still hope. Took two years to get it road worthy. When I drove it for the first time (after sitting) I couldn't remember if I was 23 or 53. Bonzi Lon

Dupli-color interior paint = TERRIBLE!
I used SEM vinyl dye on ALL of my plastic parts inside the car, it is called "Super White 15103". I didn't use it on the vinyl as mine was in very good condition. I had to order the rear finisher from MSA and ordered it in the off white. To my surprise when it arrived it was black on the back and sprayed with the SEM Super White 15103 and matched my other plastic parts to a T. I am very pleased how the stuff worked. To find a dealer I googled "SEM Vinyl Dye" and came up with a bunch of suppliers and ordered 2 cans from the least expensive place. One can did ALL of the interior plastic. Bonzi Lon

The bracket in question is inside the car under the dash and to the right of the stearing column. Bonzi Lon

I'll add a little bit (of confusion) to the oil dipstick portion of this thread. My 7-73's dipstick is 15 1/2 inches long and has E3002 stamped on the back side of the stick with the numbers between the L and H marks. The numbers can not be seen if oil level is full. HLS30-00110's (12-69) dipstick (this car now has a L26 in it) is 17 9/16 inches long and has the number E3000 stamped on the front side and above the H (full) mark. This stick could be a left over from the L26 swap from the original L24 like the intakes, carbs and balance tube. Engine #4621's (estimate 2-70) dipstick (just aquired this engine) is 15 7/16 inches long and has the number E3001 stamped on the front side and above the H (full) mark. My 68 Roadster's dipstick is 16 3/8 inches long and has the number 12201 etched (not forged stamped as the 3 above) above the H (full) mark. Also on #110 there is a 2 inch bracket welded to the upper firewall in line with the throttle linkage that looks like it could have something to do with the hand throttle, of course the 73 does not have this bracket. What's in YOUR garage?
I made a small addition to my garage. Last weekend a friend and I made a 22 hour short road trip to Albuquerque and back to pick up engine #L24-4621. It didn't come with the exhaust manifold, intakes, carbs, starter or alt, but it did include the rotating assembly, factory patch on the oil pan, E-31 head and the 2400 valve cover. This will go into HLS30-00110 when the time and money is ready as I have all of the missing parts on the L26 that is in it now. Bonzi Lon

Painted tail light panels
I did mine that way and also thought the metalic was a bit much, so I covered with a coat of "Light Matt" finish. Toned it down nicely. Bonzi Lon

Restoring chromed plastic trim on door panels
I'm sure environment and weather had lots to do with the strip peeling off. I placed my door panels on the garage wall in 1980. When I pulled them down 28 years later, the strips on both had come off and was just hanging on the last 3 inches closest to the dash. They were never moved or touched so I imagine the constant hot and cold over the years had something to do with it. Bonzi Lon

Rally Clock for sale on Ebay
I'm going to make 2 of you happy! kats: When I bought HLS30-00110 in the spare tire well is a Bridgstone Super Speed Radial 20/ 175-SR/14. Its flat now and haven't tried to air it up to see if it would hold air. It has been on the road at some time but still has good tread left. 26th-Z: Your Accutron can be repaired. There are some watchmakers that can rewind the coils on the tuning fork, if it is the 214, the one that sets the time from the back of the watch. If it is the 218, it sets the time at 4 o'clock, some forks and coils out there are new. I've been out of the watchmaking, clockmaking business for over 10 years, but might be able to find someone to repair it for you if you would like. If it is the "Space View", the one where you can see the insides, it would be well worth having repaired. (see what 214 Accutron Space Views are bringing on ebay) I have 3 of the 214's in running order but finding the 1.35 volt batteries is the hard part. Bonzi Lon

Seat breather holes?
To add to the confusion...When I bought HLS30-00110 it had a black interior and NO breather holes in the seats, which I knew it should of had. Upon further examination behind the headliner and upper window vinyl there was evidence of the interior being blue, all the interior had been painted black. I knew right there the seat covers had been blue and replaced with aftermarket ones that DID NOT have the breather holes. Bonzi Lon

Need picture of rear bumper mount
Urban legend, myth or reality? I heard/read years ago that the (outside) bumper covers were called 'skirt catchers', or more precise 'anti skirt catchers'. It was related that early on with the narrow and crowded streets of Japan that women's skirts were being caught on the open ends of the bumper when the Z made a tight corner. The problem was solved by adding the end covers. I don't know how true this story is, but it has stuck in my mind ever since I read it. I put new ones on after painting as the others were old and crumbly, but could use the inner rubber bracket covers. Bonzi Lon

400 Days Later from Being Locked Up
Very nice indeed. I know what its like having the "new shiney bobble" in your very own garage. My experience was: Don't put the plastic rivet pins in until the very last thing. Make sure all lights work first if behind panels. Bonzi Lon

What Other Z/Datsun would/do you own and why?
I have my beloved 'Bonzi', a Blue 73 240Z, my college car, owned almost 32 years now. A 68 1600 Roadster that puts a huge smile on my face every time it gets out. And HLS30-00110. Bought it because it was an early number and the price was right. I'm thinking about selling it to fund the purchase of a 64 Pick-up and a B210 Fastback, if one can be found in good shape. That would give me a Sports car, a Roadster, a Pick-up and a Sedan. And I have the garage space for all of them. Bonzi Lon
