I'm sure I am not in South Africa, it is colder than my freezer here now! Hope someone can fix it, still computer stupid. Bonzi Lon

I tried to post my location yesterday, but guess I didn't do something right. Computer stupid.. Bonzi Lon
  3. The crank bolt is 27mm or 1 1/16th inch. I use the latter, tight fit. Bonzi Lon
  4. My 68 Roadster came with that bag & a (lime) green sheet stating the contents. Datsun Fairlady Tool Kit 1 Spark Plug Wrench / For removing spark plugs 2 Wheel Nut Wrench / For tightening wheel nuts 3 Body Jack with Lever / For lifting vehicle 4 Tool Bag / For Containing above Tools Nissan Motor CO., LTD Bonzi Lon
  5. Odd VIN number. Bonzi Lon
  6. It appears that the exhaust fume problem was cured or reduced by installing that JDM 'bozosoku' (sp) style tail pipe. Bonzi Lon
  7. The Hybrid statement is correct, the tank is 'L' shaped, more fuel in the lower portion than the top. Also, the fuel sender unit is not wired for an 'L' shaped tank, the resistor windings, but more like a rectangular one. During the refurbishment, the tank was boiled, sealed and new sending unit, works as described, top half of the tank goes real quick on the gauge, then slower for the last half. On long trips I have found it will run about 2 1/4 gallon per hour, 26.5mpg highway, so that can help with calculating amount of fuel left. I've ran the needle down to cover the empty hash mark, but still had enough to get to the station. Would still like to know how low it can go before the engine quits. Bonzi Lon
  8. I would of answered yesterday if you were within 400 miles of me. I need a roof skin and the remaining parts would of more than paid for the trip and car at that price. Good luck with whatever happens. Bonzi Lon
  9. In 1977 my 73 Z had a 'Lear' (as in jet) 8-track installed. Still have the tapes, and still looking for the player, must be a 'Lear', the inventor of the 8-track. Bonzi Lon

Here is a parts car that you should snap up and have shipped, lots of your missing parts are on it. 1963 Datsun 1500 Fairlady Roadster Bonzi Lon
  11. Reversing the cables happened to me & the 73 once, fried the link. That is when I noticed both battery cable ends were black. When I picked up the new fuze I also got a RED battery cable the proper length. That mistake will not happen again, like leaving the plug out of a boat at launch, it should only happen once. 12. My untouched 73 diff has had a whine that starts about 53 mph and quits at about 58 mph since I bought it in 1977. I was told years ago not to worry about it because that speed range was where the PO drove it at when new. No idea if this is true or not. The fluid has always been off the shelf gear oil. It is not annoying but a reminder I'm at / near 55 mph. Bonzi Lon

I sprayed the clear right over the cured graphite. No one at any Z-car show has said it is the wrong color. Bonzi Lon

The rubber on one of my verticals was split open on the bottom when I got the car. During refurbishment I noticed it broke open exposing the interior fastener. It was the small bolt that goes through the bumper, mated to a stamped square of steel about 20 to 25mm, fairly thick, with 3 to 4mm holes in each corner, apparently for the rubber to pass through during vulcanizing. I was able to repair the split with E6000 and clamps. I imagine the dimples mentioned above, were from a smaller interior support. I would be interested in a full set of new ones, if within reason. Count on one from Kansas, did Nashville in one day, can do Memphis in one day also. Already thinking of improvements that need to be done. Bonzi Lon

Just clicked on the ebay link in the first post and a pop up said "42 people an hour are viewing this." So it is getting some attention. Bonzi Lon

First, check the fluid level in the trans, low fluid will make it hot. Bonzi Lon
  20. John Deere Hydrostat (hydraulic) fluid, straight 20 weight, no additives, farm supply stores will have it in quarts. Each carb will take about 2cc of oil. I use a syringe, without needle, sourced at a local drug store, to fill them without a mess, and have a piece of tubing that goes on the end to remove fluids, if needed. The syringe comes in handy if you need any liquid in a small confined space. Bonzi Lon

In my DATSUN Advertizing postcards, I have a 1300 4 dr sedan and a 4 dr 510 sedan, both have the black & gold license plate '1277'. Bonzi Lon
  23. This is a Datsun 2000 advertizing postcard printed in March of 1968. The tag is 1968 and the model looks like a 'Bond' girl. The back states: 'New Datsun Sports Cars! Two models! 2000 has new 135 h.p. OHC engine, all-syncho 5 speed transmission. 1600 has race-proven 96 h.p. engine, all-synchro 4 speed. Both deliver complete-all you add is fun! DATSUN - The Value Car of the Year!' The only other card I have found in this (3-68) series is a 4 door white 510 sedan. Bonzi Lon

My experience with a fusible link (73) was during refurbishment. With both battery cables being black they were placed on backward. I noticed a larger spark than normal, then saw below the fusible link starting to smoke and could see red heat going from right to left. I quickly disconnected the post that was in my hand. The fusible link was about half burned, then I noticed what had happened. I figured it burned about 3 seconds for the 6 inch length. The next day I found a replacement at the auto parts store for a Ford. Same amperage and diameter as the FSM called for. Worked fine. A red battery cable was installed at the same time. It sure smoked, but saved my wiring. Bonzi Lon
  25. The only problem with the Hagerty article is that "The 240Z has its roots in a 1964 design penned by Albrecht Goertz..." FWIW. Bonzi Lon
