You would be amazed by the intense heat and light emitted when magnesium burns. Underwater flairs are made of magnesium. 'Sea Hunt', 'Voyage To The Bottom of the Sea'. I worked in a ductile iron foundry for several years. To take cast iron and make it ductile we added about 7-10 pounds of 5%+or- magnesium ore to the ladle and poured 750 lbs of 2800 degree F iron on top of it. A violent and intense eruption of white light and smoke melted the mag into the iron. It was always a sight to behold! Bonzi Lon
  2. I want to do the same with my engine bay also. It seems like it would be a whole bunch easier without the engine and transmission in there. You would be able to detail the engine to a finer degree if it were on a stand. Then you (I) could drop the rest of the front end to make it as nice as the engine bay... then while I'm at it..... 3. Mine always had them, I hated the sight of them. Was leaded up by an older guy before the re-spray. Smooth as a baby's cheek now. Bonzi Lon

    My original 73 4 speed knob measures in mm's: W1 = 40mm W2 = 27mm W3 = 26mm H1 = 30mm H2 = 44mm All measurements appear to be spot on in this form of measurement, ie no fractions of a mm. Bonzi Lon
  5. The container that comes to my mind would be in the wallpaper dept. at Lowe's or Home Depot for wetting the glue on wallpaper in order to hang it. They should have several lengths and made of plastic or metal. Bonzi Lon
  6. I've always called it 'tennis ball' green. Put a lime, lemon and a tennis ball on the hood and see which is closer. Still an 'eye grabbing' color. Bonzi Lon
  7. I also would like to be informed. Needing all 4 brake wheel cylinders, shocks, and maybe some other stuff. Bonzi Lon
  8. motorman7: Your resto photos are giving me inspiration to get my 68 Roadster out of the dusty spider infested back room of the garage and on the road again. That parts stash would be fun to rummage around in too. Bonzi Lon
  9. I use a synthetic blend of dino oil with a dose of ZDDP supplied by www.cam-shield.com and change it with a Nissan filter every 3K miles. Bonzi Lon

I agree, a wire is good enough when it starts to set up. Get a mirror on a stick and look inside as to where the tubes end up, more than likely they will be fine. It is the small spaces at the bottom of the baffle that can get clogged, they allow fuel to go from one side to the other. I drilled two 1/4 inch holes in the baffle just to make sure fuel would flow between the both sides. Used a magnet on a stick to remove the shavings. Bonzi Lon
  11. That is right, plastic. Mine has a crack on the bottom that lets the knob to be tightened a quarter more turn, making the map point east/west, is loose if north/south. I try to remember to put it north/south at shows, sometimes I forget. I'll try to get a photo of the knob that still has the original finish with all the wear marks of 39 years, give or take, of shifting. I doubt it will be refinished, looks aged and well worn now. At one time I had over 4000 board feet of air dried American black walnut lumber that I harvested, sold every foot of it. Bonzi Lon

The USA has laws for 'Country of Origin' labeling, don't know about Canada. I worked at a 'dollar type store' and would read labels. The oddest one was 'Dole Fruit Cups' which said 'fruit grown in USA, packaged in Viet Nam'. What? Ship fruit half way across the globe to be packaged? Read the labels, you will be surprised where lots of stuff comes from. Bonzi Lon

The Branson car show is a people's choice event. About 120 to 150 cars are entered from 240's to the GTR's, in all states of restoration to daily driver. Each is set in its own class so as not to confuse a 240 from a ZX. A raffle is held during the event with music in the background, several vendors often set up too. The majority of people voting KNOW what they like in any particular Z-car, its a real family event. I'd really like to make the New Hampshire event, we will see what happens by then, loved the Nashville show. Bonzi Lon PS have a photo of the event, but won't load at this moment.

Here is the link from this year, http://www.bransonzfest.com/ it will be updated closer to the event in 2013. I've been there 5 times so far. Plenty of drives around the area to test your driving skills on some very nice twisties, a huge parking lot for the car show and lots of fun people to be around, held at the host motel. They invite all Z cars and Datsuns of all ages. They have a drag strip available for those that like to go in a straight line. Bring your easy chair and some iced beverages. A good time is had by all. Bonzi Lon

Zedyone & Jerry: My map of the USA shows both of you are within a nice driving distance from Branson, MO. The Branson Z-Fest is held first week of June every year. We could all look at your cars over the week there. I know I sure would like to see both of them. Just a thought. Anyone else that would like to come are welcome too. Bonzi Lon
  17. As a collector and dealer in postcards, I agree it would make a very nice one. You might look into producing one with all the information on the back to give away at car shows. Bonzi Lon
  18. The slop in the shifting is probably shifter bushings. They are nylon/plastic and tend to wear out and disappear over all these years. Happened to mine too. Simple & easy to replace, makes shifting a dream again. Bonzi Lon

As a kid I remember some of our mid 60's Buicks had electrical trumpet horns that sounded like a freight train, it got everyone's attention within blocks. Another horn would be an older 6 volt horn on a 12 volt system. Very unusual & loud sound when used in short bursts. It will burn out if very long blasts are used. One kid in town had that set-up, it would set off store alarms on Main Street that had a glass vibrating alarm system. Bonzi Lon
  21. Some of my best purchases (read most profitable) have been when I show up with an 'empty' box truck or trailer and enough cash to get the deal done. Bonzi Lon

Save some of the acid in properly marked sealed plastic bottles for future use on rusty small parts, nuts, bolts, screws, washers etc... A motorcycle guy told me about 'Kreem", he used it plenty of times on small tanks. I had to use 2 kits. I hadn't learned about POR15 at that time. It was 'well cured' after 2 years on the wall. 23. The only rims that I have seen that would replace the original steel & covers on mine are the 5 spoke 'Bathurst Globe', found down under. Bonzi Lon
  24. Here is a steel wheel and a wheel cover from my 73, like the 72 it does have a Z in the center with a red reflector. Over time the red turns to orange or pink when in the sun for 40+ years. I painted the orange to pink reflector blue to match the car. Very few even notice it is not 'right', but I like it. Bonzi Lon
  25. These might help. Might try placing an ad in the parts wanted section of the classified, many 73's lost their brackets for the earlier bumpers. Bonzi Lon
